Our room was small but adequate and we shared a bathroom. You definitely do not want to check in late, as we had to do because of a late flight. Not only will it cost you an extra 20€, but it is very hard to find from the water bus stop (Fond. Nove) closest to it at night. Having said...

Very close to city center. Very clean rooms. Breakfast was also nice. Friendly staff. Old classic venice house for those who want a taste of what Venice really is. We enjoyed hearing the street rumour in the morning while having breakfast. Wonderful experience!

Stayed for 3 nights at end of August with a friend. The location is right in the centre of Venice, an easy 5 minutes walk from vaporetto stop Casa d'Oro and from the Rialto Bridge. Despite this, it's very quiet and peaceful. The flat is up one flight of stairs, but there is a lift. The room we had was...

I stayed here during the Carnival back in Feb and it ticked all the boxes. The location is BRILLIANT, in the heart of Venice, steps from all the sights. Laura is super helpful and brekkie is served in the room. Its very basic; I didn't expect much considering the low price! Besides, you're not going to hang out in the...

We stayed here for one night. The owner was very accomodating and hospitable, allowing us to leave our luggage when we arrived a bit early and also on the day we checked out. Our bed was two singles which was fine, but one mattress was higher than the other! Breakfast was a bit of a dissapointment, sweet and sickly. A...

We stayed here for five nights and the location was great. Venice however is a different story and we really didn't like the smell in summer. The hotel has nice facilities anyway, and I'd stay again if forced to visit Venice.

We are experienced world travelers. Our first impression was being met with a strong offensive odor which was reminicent of cat urine. It was very difficult to get beyond this odor. The rooms were clean and breakfast was quite unusual, box cookies, some toast and yogurt. The directions were of no help. Take a GPS. I would not recommend staying...

I was in Venice for one night and I had the most comfortable stay at Allan and Laura's apartment. The apartment is located very near the water bus station and near a shopping street. There are restaurants and a supermarket located nearby. It was nice and quiet at night and I had a good sleep. I was served with a...

B&B San Paolo is in a residential area - quiet most of the time but can be a bit noisy with people using the supermarket just round the corner. Only 2 minutes walk to shops and restaurants and very easy access to Grand Canal. Very easy to find using the directions on their website (I came from the airport and...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
