We spent 4 days at Palazzo Stern in a beautiful spacious room with two large double windows which open onto a small balcony and amazing views of the Grand Canal. The room was decorated with opulent curtains and fabrics lining the walls, 2 large and comfortable beds with luxury linen, and good furniture. We had excellent service from all the...

This is a hotel with a lot of historical architectural details but with all the modern facilities and a stunning location. It is also very convenient for access to treansport and areas of the city on foot. The staff are attentive and very keen to help in any way they can.

In one sentence - it could not be better. * Great location in a wonderful, probably the best area of Venice - Dorsoduro sistiere, central and yet not crowded by tourists (running mostly between Rialto and San Marco) - giving you a feeling of a "true" Venice together with non spoiled quietness and tranquility. Yet - just to feel the...

The location is superb, right on the Grand Canal and close enough to walk to all the main attractions, but with a water bus stop right outside. All the staff were excellent and couldn't do enough for you, and everything about this hotel could not be faulted. The breakfast was partly self service, so you could eat as much as...

The decor is very ornate. All service staff were superb. The bed was comfortable and my wife loved the bath. There is an awesome patio overlooking the grand canal where I enjoyed a cigar and aperitif. The water taxi from the train station was an easy transition. As we were walking around we saw many people struggling with their luggage...

Our room was much bigger than all others we stayed in while in Italy. It has a definite WOW factor in that it is restored to perfection. It feels as if you are staying in a castle, truly. The Palazzo Stern was in a perfect location for us and it fronts the Grand Canal. It is situated next to a vaporetto stop (Ca' Rezzonico) with plenty of fun restaurants close by and it is away from the crowds of San Marco. The interior of the Stern is beautifully decorated. Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
