Difficult to find but relatively easy. Don't head for Campo Manin- there's no direct through way. Find Calle Fuseri (it's just off Campo S Luca, the right hand side of h&M if you face it) and turn right onto Calle Locande, then left again (it's a tiny tiny side street but opens up to the massive spiral staircase building and...

With only 6 rooms this is a tiny place. Always clean, with friendly staff, who despite having no English, are still welcoming and helpful. This isn't a swish place but in the very heart of the San Marco district, you can't go wrong. Alloggi alla Scala is tucked away off Campo Manin. Follow the signs for Scala del Bovolo, it...

Nice little hotel - up a back alley and around a few corners. Owner is friendly. Rooms are clean and well kept. Jus hard to find. 10-15 min walk from San Marco, 5 min from Rialto Other than that, very central to everything. Nice way to see Venice

This is a good no-frills choice in Venice. Kat was a kind and gracious hostess. The room was large and airy. Close to Rialto bridge and station, San Marco square. downsides: Wi-Fi was spotty, shower did not drain and there was no toiletries aside from shampoo.

(+) Very good location, close to "Rialto A and C" station, rialto bridge and San Marco cathedral. (+) Kind owner (Ms Katiuscha) (+) Large room, including a sofa (-) Bit (not much...) hard to find as the other reviews are saying. Look it up on the map before go and use Google Maps of your smartphone (even offline, just GPS...

I reccomend a map if you are staying in Venice as it is a maze of narrow streets and turns, but once you get your feet wet you can get around anywhere! Our stay here was lovely, our host (I apologize for our bad italian) was so kind in letting us check in a whole night early, and brought us...

Booked this hotel based on a recommendation from my daughter and son-in-law. They enjoyed their stay but warned us, it's not easy to find. Our flight into Venice was scheduled late. Therefore, we were looking for the place after midnight. Google maps and Map Quest was as useless as a screen door on a submarine. After about 45 minutes of...

This was a great find for us - a spacious room with good rates at a great location. From Venice train station, get out of the station to the Grand Canal where water taxis and buses are found. At the left side when you exit, there are ticket booths. We paid 7.5Euros per person (includes 1 luggage for each) from...

Let me start by saying that my husband and I stayed in a similar type place 13 years ago in Venice, so we fully understand what these small hotel/B&B properties are like. That said, we really didn't like this place. The rooms were furnished circa 1972 and felt dirty. We needed to open the windows to cool the room down,...

We had trouble finding this place upon arrival (try to look for the attraction scala contarini Di Bovolo, which is a historic ruin right next to this b&b, both are in a dead end street, accessed by a small and partly hidden intersection...Similar to a maze). This place was acceptable for its price/quality. The staff were curteous, but not much...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
