Loved this little hotel. Fun being by these famous stairs in the back of a little ole alley. Sweet "grandmother-type" running the place. Our room was on the lower floor with a window facing the canal. Really fun to hear the gondoliers go by often singing, playing music. Looked at the other rooms upstairs, which also looked  nice. Cant beat the location....

Stayed at room no. 2 which consists of double bed with ensuite toilet and shower. Room was average if you come with right expectations. However, do ensure that you have your booking details with you. Met with a really unpleasant situation with the lady owner who spoke no English. The room was supposed to come with AC provided but due...

First, it's really hard to find: I used directions I found in reviews of the hotel, and God bless those reviewers! My room was narrow as a corridor, but not oppressive because so much care had been devoted to making it nice (pretty colors and designs, good light). I realized at 4AM, hearing coughing in the next room, that it...

Recommended by Rick Steves and offered a discount based on that. Very well located. Very quiet. Very very clean and well furnished. Service is also wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay again. Owner and her staff are charming and very helpful and caring.

As other travelers have reported, it is nearly impossible to find, but once you find it you can use landmarks to find your way back. I was thrilled to get to my room, open the window and find my little bedroom overlooked a canal. I was serenaded into the evening by the musicians on the gondolas, and I loved it....

This was recommended by Rick Steve's Italy 2010 book. It is quiet, cute, charming and the staff are very friendly. There was a slight mix-up when I arrived and they had me checking in the following day despite what i had confirmed with them via email. I was soaked from the rain, tired, hungry and had just spent about 30...

I stayed in a single room, which was really a double with a large bed and plenty of space. The room was clean and well appointed, with bedside tables, a sitting area, plenty of space to hang clothes, air conditioning, and a decent size bath with a medicine cabinet above the sink - something not always available in Europe. The...

I loved the place, but it is definitely not a hotel it is a private house. The lady was very nice and accommodating. I was given a lovely and spacious room, definitely not a single room (considering others I experienced as a solo traveler in Europe) My room had a spacious private bathroom and it had a tiny living room...

Please don't risk your trip. We were so excited to be in Venice, but were greeted at the hotel door with "Reservation? No!" and it went downhill from there. She did in fact have our reservation, but she didn't have our double room with bath. Instead she put us in a dreadful room. The bed that had the most remarkable...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
