When you do not know what to do or what marketing, you always overplay your concept. Nice place. A bit lost (but it is in the concept.... you have to find it...) I visit hundred of 5 stars and they were less pretentious! Why? To justify overpricing? So easy to be classy with a bit more sincerity... Last time.

My wife and I had two nights at Palazzo Barbarigo Sul Grand Canal. On arrival we were greeted with great warmth and excitement by the Manager Daniel. He sprnt 20 minutes with us, explaining Venice and suggesting experiences and paths to take drawing everything up on the map. Daniel took us up to our room personally. The staff is small,...

We recently spent 6 nights in this hotel. As it only has 18 rooms, a guest gets lots of personal attention. The front desk staff was most helpful and accommodating. We loved the location. It was away from all the crowds in a pleasant neighbourhood. We could easily walk to so many places. The vaporetto stop was close by. We...

This hotel is a little gem. A genuinely warm welcome, some great ideas for how to spend our days, beautiful room, great location. Grown up, sexy and stylish. Good breakfast with delicious coffee. Quiet and calm, perfect for couples. Leave the kids at home!

We just spent six nights in this small luxurious hotel in Venice. The rooms are small but beautifully appointed. We arrived by water taxi to the front entrance on the Grand Canal. Staff is excellent and gave us many helpful hint to help navigate Venice. Their advice on restaurants was very good and we didn't have a disappointing meal. Breakfasts...

My husband and I spent several days in Venice recently, and we can't recommend Palazzo Barbarigo enough. The hotel is quietly luxurious, and the staff and service is exceptional. We hope to return many, many times.

A gem in Venice. This was our first trip to the city and couldn’t have picked a better location to stay in - the San Polo area. The hotel itself is directly on the canal. The closest vaporetto stop is a 5 minute walk away, while the train station is a 10-15 min walk. The back entrance to the hotel,...

We spent the Easter weekend here in a Junior Suite which looked out directly on the Grand Canal. The room was spacious, the bed was large and comfortable and there is a separate dressing area which was very useful. The bathroom was tiny in comparison to the room with no bath although the shower was very good. The hotel interior...

This hotel interior looked so much different to the usual dowdy Venetian stuff, and it didn't disappoint. It was superbly located on the Grand Canal and the staff were very helpful and friendly too. Somebody has thought out this place very well and done a nice job on it inside. Our suite was stunning and the photos on the website...

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
