We arrived at this beautiful hotel by water taxi, situated on the Grand Canal, it really is the only way to arrive! We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. It is beautiful and very chic, the staff are very friendly and helpful. We had concerns that the alley ways leading to the hotel would be...

Just got back from a 2 night stay at the Palazzo Barbarigo and I can definitely recommend it. With an entrance right on the Grand Canal or just a short walk from a Vaporetto stop we were really pleased with how chic, tasteful and "boutique" this hotel is. Friendly, helpful staff, great continental breakfasts, a bijou terrace overlooking the grand...

Excellent boutique hôtel, be it the rooms a tad dark and the automatic light went on and off when you moved around in bed at night. Breakfast was sumptuous. Staff were friendly and efficient. The O N LY way to arrive is by water taxi……until you get your bearings, finding it 'cold' would be a nightmare as it is a...

Most of what this hotel offers is excellent. The staff are friendly, efficient and helpful, The place is spotlessly clean, the breakfast is lovely, the rooms are fun and stylish, the showers are hot, the slippers are comfy, and the bed is so comfortable. The bar is a great area to spend an hour winding down. The little balcony is...

Venice is spectacular and I so wanted our hotel to be too. Take the water taxi and arrive at the hotel dock in style, what an way to arrive. The hotel itself is modern, all the staff are friendly. The rooms have everything you need. Breakfast was good, all cold but plenty of choice. And sitting on the small balcony...

We upgraded to Grand Canal view room and we were glad we did. The windows open up to the hustle and bustle but it was quiet enough with the windows shut. This boutique hotel is beautifully decorated and the showers are SO NICE! I could care less about the TV in the bathroom though. It's tucked away from the really...

Wow! What a hotel, really lush without being stuffy. Friendly staff, great room, what more can I say. Loved the breakfast especially the fact that everything was on the table for you, no getting up and going to the buffet, very civilised. Do arrive by boat or you will never find it. I recommend the shared water taxi from the...

This is perhaps the only hotel available that is NOT chintz, polished brass and renaissance sculptures; the usual Venetian motifs. It's by contrast a sublimely contemporary place - all black wood and dark alcoves. The 'look' is followed through right down to the staff uniforms and toiletries. It's very well done. So, firstly, if you arrive on foot and you...

Perfect romantic break. Beautiful setting on the Grand Canal. Impeccable staff and service, plus breakfast was a triumph! Only complaint would be one day the bar was closed which was a shame, but it meant we went and found some lovely local wine-bars instead so hardly a bad point! The water taxi is a must - very glad we read...

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
