We rented two rooms for a two night stay. When we arrived at 4:00 in the afternoon we waited for 4-5 minutes outside before someone came and took us up to our rooms. We kept wondering if we had found the right hotel. This person came from the kitchen, did not say hello but merely took us up the stairs...

The hotel is clean and has a perfect location as it is three blocks from piazza San Marco. However our room was really small (we almost had no place for two big bags and one carry-on) though the bathroom was big (but not the shower area.... Amazing). Breakfast is very simple and you only have one hour time: from 8:30...

Is a bit hard to find as it is above a restaurant and the entrance is behind, off the street, in a little quiet area. Once located, really liked the location and the accommodations. Does require negotiating stairs. Our air conditioner didn't work the first night - bummer. Once we overcame the language barrier with the staff they had it...

As the hotel is located in the middle of venice, close to san marco, it is truly close to everything. The rooms were very clean, the beds comfortable, there even was a bubblebath! Breakfast was very good, although there were limited options, you had all what was needed. The hot chocolat and the coffee made our day! If i would...

1. Location: perfect spot! 5 min. walk till piazza San Marco, 10 min till Rialto. If you open the window at 9 o'clock, you can hear loud bells of campanile San Marco. It's better to get to the hotel from S. Marco Giardinetti vaporetto stop (if you going from Rialto, there are more bridges with stairs to cross). May be...

We booked this hotel in advance and got a very reasonable price of 40 Euros per night, which was excellent value given that we'd been warned about how expensive Venice can be. We were given a beautifully spacious room with huge windows and shutters and a pristine bathroom complete with a spa bath. Having read several reviews on this site...

Great location clean but it's just a place to sleep in not much help from the hotel staff we stayed here for three days and when they cleaned our room they forgot to give us towels. Was asking for towels the night we came back from hotel but one hotel staff told us it's not his Job to replace towels...

Booked this about 8 weeks out because everything else was full, and clearly lucked out. The room is spacious and spotless - fantastic bathroom and shower. About 5 minutes walk to St Mark's square, and walkable everywhere else. We only saw the host twice - once when he brusquely asked for our passports, and then when he chased us down...

Lovely clean comfortable rooms, centrally located for easy access to all main attractions. It was difficult to find as the main entrance to the hotel is a single door at the rear of the property through an archway. Before you arrive, we suggest you use a map to locate the restaurant "Ca La Bricola" first (it's on the ground floor...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
