Located in the historical center, Casabaseggio is situated in the wing of an ancient building which was part, already in 1300, of a Franciscan convent. From the terrace where in the summer breakfast is served is possible to enjoy the peace of the garden which was constituting an ancient cloister and is also possible to notice through the cypresses the very ancient Abbey Of The Mercy (Abbazia della Misericordia). The rooms with bathroom are elegantly furnished and provided with all the modern comforts (TV, air conditioning, fridge, hair-dryer, sound-proofing, free WI-FI). It’s possible to add one bed for babies and children up to 4 years old who are lodged free of charge. Breakfast is typically continental, with some Venetian speciality.

Neighbourhood
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

My wife and I spent 3 days in beautiful Venice and stayed at the Casa Baseggio. Alessandra and Marc were gracious hosts and very helpful. Alessandra gave us a run down of the area on arrival. The room was nice and clean, although I wished the aircon was operational. Breakfast was served on the terrace facing a beautiful garden. The continental style breakfast had a very large selection of items, juices, etc. and was nicely presented. Everything is walking distance and the hotel's location makes it so it is a bit peaceful at night. Would definitely recommend this place.

What an amazing experience! From taking a water taxi that brought us right to a beautiful garden walkway, leading up to a historic home in the heart of Venice, to an incredible host, Marco, a beautiful continental breakfast on an outdoor patio overlooking historic sights of Venice, we could not have had a more enjoyable, authentic Venetian experience. Within walking distance to the main historic sights, sounds, shopping, restaurants and more, we would highly recommend this beautiful B&B!

Our family of 4 stayed here for 3 nights in July, 2019. The owners are lovely people and we really enjoyed our stay here. They speak perfect English and are happy to help you with restaurant suggestions, etc. We had the first-floor mini apartment. The morning breakfasts on the terrace really make your stay special. You are out of the hustle and bustle of the Main Canal of Venice and are on a side canal. We took a water taxi to and from the train station on arrival and departure from this hotel. We walked from here to explore the city for sightseeing and the hotel is in a great location. (It used to be part of a convent.) There are many restaurants close by. I would definitely stay here again. It's a special place.

Lovely historical building, a superb garden and terrace. The rooms are nice and the breakfast very good. Alessandra and Marc are lovely hosts. Do not miss! Very close to everything, but quieter. 15 minutes on foot from St Lucia Statione or Rialto.

My wife and I stayed at the B and B for 2 nights in early June. We arrived by train from Milan and none of the water taxis were operating due to the Vogalonga Venice Regatta. So, we had to wait to travel until the boats were all running again. We eventually made our way to the neighborhood near the B and B, and Marco, the owner, was kind enough to meet us and guide us the final few blocks. As it turns out, once we got a feel for Venice, locating the B and B was easy. It’s actually within an easy walking distance of the train station. The B and B is very nice. We had a very spacious suite on the ground floor. It had a separate bedroom, living room and kitchen area, as well as a good size bathroom. There was an air conditioning unit that came in handy while we were there, as the weather was unseasonably hot. There was also a refrigerator. The location is very quiet and the rooms are well appointed. There are also rooms on an upper floor that are part of the B and B and seemed very nice from what we could tell. Marco was very pleasant, efficient and complete. He provided a very thorough briefing of the house, breakfast times, the local area, restaurants, attractions, maps, etc. Obviously, everything is within walking distance. We met Marco’s wife, Alessandra, at breakfast the next morning, and she couldn’t have been any more accommodating either. Both Marco and Alessandra speak very good English, so communication was not an issue. Breakfast is on the second level and since the weather was nice, we were able to sit out on the terrace of the house. There is a beautiful view of the adjoining gardens, and the terrace itself has plenty of plants and flowers. It was very peaceful and pleasant. The continental style breakfast had a very large selection of items, juices, etc. and was nicely presented. Since we were leaving early on our second day to catch a train to Rome, Marco had breakfast delivered to our room. The selection was similar to the meal on the terrace and got our day started on a full stomach. Although the B and B is in a quiet part of the city, everything in Venice is just a short walk away. It was very easy to get around and we walked to the train station to continue our journey. I would gladly stay again at Casa Baseggio.

What's the best way to get here from Marco Polo airport?
I am really sorry, but I don't know the answer to your question. If you e-mail the owners I am sure they will help you. We found them very helpful indeed.

It was nearly a year ago when we went, so afraid I can't remember the details. We walked out of the train station in Venice and the canal was facing us. The public boat station was just to our right and we had just one boat trip and then a short walk to the b and b. It was easy, but I cannot remember the names of the boat stations now. If you e-mail the b and b, or go to their website there are very easy to follow directions. It only took about 15 minutes. We were nearly there when the man from the b and b was coming to meet us. They were lovely people and the b and b was superb - so peaceful, but a short walk for all the sights. As I say - e-mail them for directions or go to their web site. Enjoy!

May have to cancel due to family illness due to arrive on April 25th is there a fee for cancelling late
Hello, obviously you would have to check this with the b and b, but, if I remember rightly, I think the earlier you cancel the better. I would suggest you contact the owner by e-mail or 'phone right away. He always answered my e-mails promptly and was very helpful.

Hi Asimm76, You are going to have a wonderful time in Venice in 3 days, a perfect time. The location of B&B Casa Baseggio is away from the main tourist area, and this is a very good thing. It is more relaxed and the restaurants are a bit cheaper and much more friendlier. Furthermore, they cater to the local people. Marco, the owner will help you find all the local places. The nearest water bus is a 7 minute walk (Calle D’Ora) and this takes 20 minutes to get to St Marks sq. Its a wonderful journey up the Grand Canal and worth every minute. Go to the back of the boat, there are seats and you get a great view as you drive by Venice. You can walk around from the B&B to Rialto bridge in about 20 minutes, everything in Venice is not far. Yes, buy a 3 day pass, and its worth getting the one which includes the bus transfer from the airport. The water buses on a 3 day pass starts when you first touch in on your first journey. You must remember to touch in on the reader when ever you get on. The local bus inspectors love catching tourists and the fines are heavy. The pass runs for 72 hours, so plenty of time to have your 3 days and get back to the airport. The water buses get busy, but you will get on, the staff are very good, and will help elderly people tourists with bags. Have a great time, say hello to Marco and Alexandria. Keith
