The hotel is situated in the heart of old Catania. It is in a good position with many attractions within easy walking distance as are shops bars and restaurants. The staff are extremely helpful, friendly and the included breakfast is adequate but there is limited choice if you are not into cakes ! That said, it is well presented and...

We spent four nights in a superior room on the third floor of this lovely hotel. We had our own private outdoor space with opening roof and table and chairs and a fantastic view of the Via Antonino di Sangiuliano and surrounding rooftops. The rooftop terrace has what must be the best view of Mount Etna in Catania too. I...

Loved this hotel for its very central location off one of the most beautiful streets in Catania (Crociferi, lined with gorgeous baroque buildings). The hotel rooms are slightly worn (carpets, etc), but still luxurious with great style (canopied beds) and many have views of the water. We especially loved the roof terrace and the terraced breakfast room with the terrific...

The Hotel Royal is very conveniently located, just 15 minutes from the airport and near the historic sights downtown. Our room was large, but run down. The carpet had large stains, and the stool at the foot of the bed was stained as well. This spoiled the experience for me. The breakfast was good, and it is served on a...

Lovely, friendly staff and a fabulous location to see the final morning of the Sant'Agata festival. Rooms well appointed and clean. Amazing terraces to admire Etna and the catania skyline. Well worth the visit. On the 'could do better' side...heating hard to control and room a little stuffy. More cupboard space required! Room would also benefit from a comfy chair...

The staff are pleasant, the breakfast lovely, the location excellent but the room was very unpleasant for me Despite its large size it was very gloomy and poorly planned. if you dont mind old, dark with heavy drapes and heavy furniture than this place is right for you. I prefer light and modern and was very unhappy here.

This being our first time in Sicily, we didn't know what to expect but were not disappointed. The Royal was a very friendly hotel in a good area and not to far from all the sights. The bedroom and bathroom was spotlessly clean and supplied with good quality linens. We found the only thing missing would have been a pair...

Very friendly helpful staff, delicious breakfast with lots of choices and options. Very comfortable room, nice and warm with a lovely patio deck, the view of Mt Etna from the hotel rooftop is amazing. Within a few minutes walk of the main shopping street. Close to the main sightseeing attractions. Great choice of restaurants within easy walking distance. Highly recommend...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Royal Hotel is a four star hotel in the centre of Catania with 19 rooms. The rooms are positioned on three different levels. Each room is named after either an important Sicilian person or period of Sicilian history. The first floor is dedicated to Vincenzo Bellini. A world-renowned composer, born in Catania, and author of noted works like La Norma. The same Norma lends her name to our most beautiful suite. This suite boasts beautiful vaulted ceilings where, following a meticulous and complex restorative project, we were able to maintain the original frescoes, painted in the 18th century. The frescoes are not the only unique features of this suite, which could more accurately be called a royal apartment. It is almost 50m2 and has a fabulous bathroom, like something directly from the fabled Arabian Nights. The second floor is home to the rooms dedicated to Magna Grecia (Latin for "Greater Greece"): a very important period in the history of the city of Catania. The third floor is dedicated to Giovanni Verga. This author brought the name of Catania and of Sicily into the lives of many around the world with his historical novels, names that are kept alive today in names of the rooms of our hotel. All rooms are equipped with LCD monitor, WiFi, and a control panel for the electronic adjustment of lights, but most importantly they are very spacious. The Superior rooms boast either a splendid four-poster bed or a private terrace. One of the Superior rooms has a private access to the rooftop terrace with the possibility to book the exclusive use of the Solarium and the Jacuzzi. The Suites are particularly ample with separate, clearly defined living and sleeping quarters. The Suites also offer a relaxing shower with water massage. ... more   less
