The entry and lobby are quite grand. It was originally an 18th century palazzo and it retains some of that charm and a sense of faded old-world elegance. The hotel itself is of a palatial size and is a bit of a maze. Although I got lost every single morning on the way to the breakfast room and occasionally got lost in corridors going to my own room, I liked that the long, winding halls and hidden corners were styled with antique furniture, vases, artwork and ornamentation.
Front desk service was consistently friendly and welcoming.
Our room was clean but a little dated and a bit dark, without much natural light. The bathroom was a reasonable size and certainly big enough for two people. The shower was a bath/shower combination and there was a generous supply of shampoo, conditioner and other toiletries. Importantly, the room was quiet at night which, given its central location, was a big plus. All in all, it was an excellent room for the price range.
The buffet breakfast was particularly good and included yoghurts, juices, fruit, cold meats and cheeses, a selection of hot food and a large range of pastries (cannoli, cakes and chocolate croissants). The breakfast room itself was an attractive space with high ceilings, white tablecloths and antique dressers.
Overall, the hotel was good value and in an excellent central location. I would stay there again.
1) The location in the historic district of Palermo. Within a very short walking distance are the Palermo Cathedral, the Norman Palace, the Fountain of Shame, the Ballaro Market, the Vucchiara (sic) Market, the Capo Market and the Massimo Theatre, Just to name a few.
2) The restaurants within close proximity are wide and varied. I have left other reviews on them.
3) The hotel itself - a former Palace residence of the Tarallo family. The rooms are spacious and up to date (I usually reserve a Superior room) with a balcony and walk in shower and sometimes a bathtub. The water pressure is excellent as well as the products provided.
4) The included breakfast on the second floor - JUST GRAND! I had read the reviews of limited breakfast due to the Covid Pandemic but the offerings were the same as I have always experience. Eggs, Bacon, Mini Hot Dogs, Arancini, Deli Meat & Cheese selections, Fruit, Yogurt, Pastries, Breads, Biscotti, a Variety of Coffees, Juices etc.
5) The staff from the front desk, housekeeping and the breakfast staff. All very friendly and accommodating to every need.
I would never stay at another hotel in Palermo again.
Thank you Mr. Romeo, Veronica and the rest of the staff for another relaxing and enjoyable stay.
Main drawback is the old fashioned key system with a regular, bulky key that needed to be handed in to the reception. The staff performed no ID check at all before they handed us the key, which felt very unsecure as anyone could have gain access.
They announced in their web (and various travel webs) several times what an amazing breakfast they had, so I included such breakfast for the 3 day accommodation paying an additional amount per day.
I arrived and the room was not clean. I let them know and they cleaned it, but not properly. It was late night so I directly went to bed. Next morning in the hotel I go to try finally "one of the best breakfasts in town", and I realized they have substituted it for a plastic bag with a vending machine-sandwich, a small bottled juice and 2 processed bake goods.
I explained them that in their website (and also Booking.com etc.) they kept announcing their breakfast as something amazing, and that they should let us know if they had cancelled the usual breakfast due to COVID, as they did with the gym, sauna, or other facilities/activities), and not to encourage customers to pay the additional daily higher rate in order to get specifically the mentioned plastic bag as a breakfast.
They told me it was a weekend and the manager would contact me Monday morning, in order to perhaps reimburse me for such additional breakfast expense (with no actual ), or some kind of compensation or at least explanation. Well, I am still waiting for that call.
Additionally, they were minor problems like not hot water the first day, forget to put toilet paper the second, no personnel in reception 3 times when I returned to the hotel (and needed my key for the room), etc. All of this was also highlighted and as mentioned I am still waiting for the call.
Breakfast is great, self service tea/coffee but there is loads to have and a great selection. The breakfast room is lovely setting to enjoy the morning. There is a panoramic restaurant on the top where you can also just enjoy a drink, which is reasonable value.
Location is perfect to walk around the beautiful city - highly recommended.
The staff were friendly. I highly recommend having a cocktail at the terrace bar on the 4th floor. It was a relaxing way to end a d light full day in Palermo.
I have it 4 stars because it is definitely not a five star hotel, but we loved the hotels old world charm and would recommend it to friends and family wanting to emerge themselves in the city.
