My wife and I enjoyed three nights at the Rocco Forte Villa Igiea in April, 2023. I recommend the hotel.

We had a Superior Suite with Terrace, upgraded from a standard Superior Suite. The absence of “sea view” in the name means we looked at the hillside across from the front of the hotel. It wasn’t quite the leafy experience I imagined, but it did give our large terrace morning shade. The terrace (which was right over the hotel’s porte cochere) was equipped with multiple umbrellas provide shaded seating in the afternoon. On the whole, I wasn’t sorry I opted for the cheaper non-sea view side, since the sea view, while nice, was somewhat obstructed by the gardens (and, to the right of the hotel, the view is Palermo’s industrial harbor). And, we had the view at breakfast and whenever we went to lounge on the sea side of the hotel.

The suite was large – a very commodious living room with a sofa and two easy chairs, as well as a desk. There was ample storage in dressers in the living room. Connecting to the large bedroom was a hallway of closets – more than I can ever imagine using. So, awards to the Villa Igiea for supporting in-room storage (The Carlyle, in New York, should take note). And, lighting in the bedroom, hallway, bathroom, and living room was excellent. You could read in each and every sitting location. Hotel room designers in the US responsible for the current trend for dreary rooms should take note.

The bathroom was large with a separate shower and tub. We had two sinks.

Both the bedroom and living room had French doors out to our terrace.

The bed was very comfortable, and the pillows and linens at the luxury level.

Our suite was quiet. Once I got the hang of the HVAC (you had to turn down the bedroom unit to much further than I’m used to in order to get the temperature I wanted), I was happy with the room temperature.

Service outside of the breakfast restaurant was excellent across the board. The concierges, in particular, provided excellent advice and made arrangements swiftly. The only service hiccup was at our second breakfast, where my egg order somehow got lost. The waiter didn’t seem particularly interested in solving the problem, so I had to escalate. The breakfast buffet, was excellent, however.

The hotel is well outside of the touristic part of Palermo. And the immediate neighborhood is uninviting. But, the hotel’s extensive grounds make the neighborhood a moot point. Free hourly shuttles are provided to take guests to the heart of Palermo, with returns on the half hour. The transfer service worked well for us.

This is a delightful, well-managed, well-maintained hotel. I’d gladly come back.

We stayed two nights at the end of a wonderful trip to Sicily. The hotel is spectacular. A recent remodel has resulted in meticulous attention to all details. The grounds are pristine. Rooms are immaculate. All of this is matched with impeccable service. We ate one night in the restaurant and the next in the bar. Food at both was superb. (Recommend the salt baked sea bass) Good weather allows for breakfast on the patio with a great view of the city harbor. Hotel runs regular shuttle service into the historic center of the city which is very convenient otherwise a taxi is needed. We kept our rental car at the hotel and only used it for excursion to Monreale.

A combination of beauty, comfort, good food and Sicilian "cuddles" for an unforgettable experience. Thank you for sharing your positive vibe and we hope to welcome you again in the future. Regards

Touring Sicily and last stop is here in Palermo.
Was greater with smiles and a upgrade to a junior suite. Not a big one but we’ll designed and comfortable.
Had an extra bed for our daughter with room to walk around.
The views from the window of the swaying palm trees and the marina made us pause to stop and reflect how nice and lucky we are to be here.

Breakfast was over the top. They encourage you to taste the different items on the menu. The ricotta spread was amazing and so was all the dishes we asked for. The tower of fruit and meat was complimented by a basket of different breads.

We choose not to stay by the pool and took a drive to a recommended beach club. It’s unique because it was on the large rocks and no sand. Very private.

Tomorrow we go into town for sightseeing.

Being big fans of all Rocco Forte Hotels, we were highly recommended excited to come to the latest addition. We had already booked a stay for 2020 but then Covid delayed the opening by a year.
The welcome by Alex, the doorman, was cordial and warm. Check-in was slow, but we were delighted that we would receive „a fantastic upgrade“ from a sea view room to a junior suite.
However, this was only junior and not a suite (a sofa and a little coffee table transform this room in a suite - both installed so close to each other that you cannot sit on the sofa unless you put your feet on the table). AND there was hardly any sea view. The main view is a multi-Stores apartment house and a construction side next door.
We left the room, informed reception that we prefer our original room and went to lunch. Upon returning from lunch we asked for the new keys and were told that this is a terrific room and that the slow lady at the reception and her colleague did not understand the issue. Our pushback that the photos of the sea view room looked much nicer, we were told „that this is just a photo.“
I don’t ask for this receptionist to be nuclear physicists, and if she does not understand my issue, this is not necessarily an issue. However, I expect them to understand that we wanted what we had booked and paid for. Nothing more nothing less.
We did not want to impact our first das of holidays, and did not escalate further.
Unfortunately the miserable front desk service also extended to the visibly bored concierge. When asked to cancel a Spa appointment he gave us the telephone and pressed the speed dial to handle it ourselves.
A good concierge would have also provided me for my 70 Euro tennis lessons with a water and a towel (and have someone clean the court). At La Verdura this is the standard.
On a positive note: away from the front desk the service was very committed and really passionate. for lunch and for dinner (Catherina) at the bar and at the pool (Anastasia!). Alex and his team at the door, I already mentioned. Maybe these fantastic people should move to another Rocco Forte Hotel, where passion to perform is rewarded.

On the last part of our Sicily Christmas/NY break, we spent 4 nights at Rocco Forte’s Villa Igiea in Palermo. What a wonderful storied palace hotel with immaculate grounds by the sea. We were upgraded to a spectacular suite at check in and offered a discount for the NY celebrations at the hotel where the ‘Compagnia di Danza Storica’ from Rome performed all night with a fine dining menu served in the ballroom. The hotel is located outside Palermo’s historic center, but there is a very efficient complimentary shuttle. Palermo itself is nothing less than spectacular, but coming back to the oasis that Villa Igiea truly is after a day of sightseeing and simply sipping on a cocktail and chatting away on the beautiful terrace… priceless. Many thanks to Villa Igiea and its fantastic team for the many beautiful memories we have of Palermo. We will be back for sure.

We stayed at the Villa Igiea for three nights in June 2021, i.e. shortly after the hotel reopened under the Rocco Forte brand. At the time of our stay, about 30 rooms were available, the Spa had not opened yet.
This being said, the hotel is already fabulous. The staff is superb, well trained and super friendly. While everybody was friendly and helpful, we would like to mention in particular Philipp, the concierge, and Danielo at the bar, who made our stay special.
We found the food at the Florio restaurant, the lunch restaurant at the pool and the drinks at the bar excellent and not overpriced. In particular, prices were much more reasonable than at the Verdura Resort (the other Rocco Forte hotel in Sicily), and the service was much better (really worlds apart).
The hotel is located north-east of the city center of Palermo, on the coast, has a nice garden and a small, but nice pool area.
We had booked a studio room and were upgraded to a junior suite. The room was nicely designed, in line with the usual Olga Polizzi style, the A/C worked well, there was a sufficient number of sockets, and the marble bathroom was quite nice. Important detail: the GHD hairdryer. The only downside was that the door was not soundproof, and the marble flooring in the hallway did not exactly absorb any sound. Besides, even with closed curtains, the room does not get properly dark because the curtains are too far away from the wall, and the sides are open.
However, when we go back to Palermo, we will gladly stay at the Villa Igiea again and are looking forward to our next stay.

We spent 5 nights in two connecting sea room views. We had stayed at the Villa Igiea two years ago and were blown away then. This time, however, while 40% more expensive, a number of things have deteriorated, most importantly in terms of service which felt inconsistent. Higher prices, lower quality.

Some staff were great, but others were clearly disinterested and/or poorly trained. Breakfast seemed disorganized as orders for more coffee got lost and the buffet seemed poorly looked after (e.g. no refills of empty plates of fruit, croissants, yoghurt). The concierge desk seemed to have staffing issues and took way too long to meet a simple request to call an external business, and then blamed the delay on communication issues. It seemed more likely they just got distracted or forgot.

Two years ago we loved the pool, but this time it felt poorly managed and not in great condition. The attendants seemed more interested in chatting with each other than looking after things. Once somebody entered the pool in footwear (crocs), and another time a baby swam with regular rather than swim nappies. Both should be absolute no-goes but in neither case did the pool attendants (who saw both) intervene which we found very disappointing.

We liked the Florio restaurant for dinner, the meat dishes were great and reasonably priced. The poolside restaurant and the terrace though felt overpriced and the food quality underwhelming, particularly of the fish and pasta dishes.

Overall this is still a good hotel, and certainly in Palermo there is little choice at this quality level. However, inconsistent service let's the property down, which is usually a sign of management issues. It feels that too much success has led to standards slipping.

Following a harrowing year of lock downs, it was bliss to be able to share precious time with family. The trip to Sicily was just the medicine for the soul.
This palace hotel is set to rival Oetker’s Hotel du Cap. Amazing renovation to restore this grand old dame to a magnificent future.
Cuisine overseen by Acclaimed chef, Fulvio Pierangelini and a gorgeous bar under the maestro Salvatore Calabrese leaves one floating with delight.

Warmly welcomed by the young Australian hotel manager, we were immediately introduced to our sea terraced suite which was simply breath taking. The housekeeping team are the best we have encountered but rarely saw. The level of cleanliness across the property was nothing less than 5 star exceptional.

Top notch hotel! While it was quite expensive I have to say they live up to the billing. We arrived late at night and we did receive an upgrade to a super nice harbor view room. We ended up staying a second night and received a small rate discount for extending our stay. Palermo was so busy to get around we chose to dine at the hotel and had one of our best dinners on the trip. The concierge was very helpful helping me to retrieve results of our Covid tests online needed for travel back to the US. I could not have done it without her, I wish I remembered her name, but Thank You! She also arranged for coffee and a continental breakfast to go sent to our room at 4:30 am because we had an early flight.

Villa Igiea is really over-the-top with its picturesque setting, lovely grounds and gardens, immaculate common areas, and beautiful large rooms. You want for nothing here, the service is top tier. I chose it partly for its location away from the bustling city center, but old Palermo is just a 15 minute shuttle ride away for when you want to explore the historic town.
This is not a hotel where you might hope to practice your Italian; the staff speak fluent English, and the guests are predominantly American.

There seemed to be very upmarket jewellery for sale on-site. There was also a boutique near terrace with swimwear and casual wear, some shoes and accessories. Very beachy resort wear ,but very nice. I didn't go inside. There may have been anothershop, but I didn't see it.
