The Massimo Plaza Hotel is a very exceptional hotel in the heart of Palermo. It is directly across from the third largest opera house in the world, Teatro Massimo. The hotel offers spacious rooms which every amenity. Our room had a balcony overlooking a large, busy piazza. The location is perfect with access to public transportation only a short walk away. Breakfast was served daily either in our room or in a very esthetically pleasing room. Housekeeping attended to our room as soon as we left the hotel for the day. The 24 hour/day front desk staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. We felt very pampered as we were assisted by Christian, Jenny and/or Francesca with restaurant/taxi reservations, help with directions or just anything we might have needed. To say our stay here was wonderful is a serious understatement! We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants luxury at an affordable price!

The Massimo Plaza Hotel is a wonderful, luxurious hotel in the heart of Palermo! The rooms were spacious and beyond comfortable! We had our choice of having a continental breakfast delivered to our room or set up in a beautiful eating area in the hotel. The staff was professional and could not be more helpful with restaurant reservations, directions and transportation. They were there 24 hours/day to meet any and all of our needs. The hotel staff, in particular, Christian, Jennie and Francesca gave us individual attention with the utmost in customer service. We cannot recommend this hotel enough for it's location, ambience and hotel staff!

This is a small boutique hotel in the heart of city. Just walk out the front door into all the action. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms were nicely appointed and they served a great breakfast. Only cautionary note is the large staircase to enter the hotel as there is no elevator. Even though the staff carried our bags up and down the stairs for those with mobility issues it can be a little difficult.

This hotel definitely does not deserve 4 stars. It is badly maintained (for eg: the sink stayed clogged for 3 days although we mentioned it the first day). Moreover it is very noisy. Do not be deceived by the pictures online: they do not represent the reality.

As this was our 2nd honeymoon, I researched hotels long before our actual trip. Over the months, I came to recognize front desk clerks Cristian and Francesca, and later on Jenny. Each email was courteous, prompt, and answered whatever question I had. Since I was unable to find a concert during our stay at the nearby Teatro Massimo, I emailed a week or so before our trip to ask if they knew of anything at another theatre. Jenny wrote back right away and said there was a concert at Teatro Massimo and sent me the info. Then Cristian wrote with every single number needed for me to send a bank wire to pay for the tickets. I printed it and rushed over to our bank. After twenty-five minutes, my banker completed the transaction. Cristian wrote that if I sent him a copy of it, they would retrieve our tickets and that they'd be in our room upon our arrival. I was so elated, especially since, for whatever the reason, my search results always turned up empty--including after I plugged in the exact date and name of the concert after Jenny had written to me. My other concern was the steps leading up to the lobby. Cristian assured me that someone would help us with our four pieces of luggage. And true to their word, another staffer appeared like magic when our taxi driver took us to the piazza and immediately grabbed the heavy bags across the cobblestones and up the stairs. My husband Michael had purchased a phone for our use since some of his cousins wanted to meet us. We heard nothing from Mauro, our contact cousin, and I suggested we ask at the desk if they could call. Francesca was on duty, and it was solely through her efforts that we contacted Mauro that night. Then she found out that our phone required the use of the UK country code, which is why we hadn't been able to receive our messages. Because of all of her diligence and kindness, we were able to board a bus to Trapani, meet another cousin, then many more at a beautiful country farmhouse for an afternoon of joy and delicious food. Everyone at the front desk helped us with directions and bus/train/taxi information and assistance as we needed it that made our trip incredibly fulfilling and enjoyable. The Old World flavor of this hotel, a nicely-sized room with a table and chairs we could use for breakfast overlooking the piazza and our terrace, a spacious bathroom (and large vanity for all of our toiletries, etc.) and a good-sized armoire for our clothing made us feel quite at home and luxurious. There was a spacious desk in one corner where my husband was able to do his work, and each of us had a lamp and bedside table with a shelf, all of which allowed us to keep things close at hand as needed at nighttime. The bed was large and very comfortable, and the room was cleaned every day in a timely fashion. (I loved our housekeeper too!) The sweet young lady who brought our delicious breakfast of juice, fresh fruit, ham and cheese, rolls, jams, honey and yogurt--and wonderful coffee was a delight to see each morning. And the night of our concert, we were amazed to see that Jenny had procured for us our own box in an excellent location. That, too, was a magical, unforgettable experience made possible by the kindness of these then-strangers. Although Palermo is a rollicking, happy place filled with entertainment, music, and even a joyous festival for Saint Rosalia one night, our room was nearly completely soundproof--only the barest muffles of noise came through. And what fun to open one of our glass doors leading to the terrace each morning to gaze at the blossoms in our window boxes, with the ancient theatre across the way and see people meandering on their day as we sipped our coffee. Michael and I wanted to return to Taormina and Villa Igiea, places we'd visited on our honeymoon. These wonderful front desk angels helped make everything possible and the most memorable trip of our lives. I have never written such a glowing review of any establishment, and I've never wanted to do so more.

more central isn’t possible- this comes with pluses and minuses: + easy to reach, opposite opera, walking distance to all major sightseeing; downside is: hotel rooms rather exposed to noisy - also at night and with closed windows, if you are keen on real italian food you have to leave the area since nearly all nearby restaurants caters to tourists, are overpriced, touts are harassing and food quality is mediocre …. the hotel considers itself a 4* star place, i d give them a max of 3, though - the biggest minus: only three tables in the place for breakfast, most guests have to eat in their rooms which are mostly rather dark (towards small alleys though nearly no daylight), you have to reserve a breakfast “slot” the evening before…. carpets in the rooms are oldish and hard to keep clean, very strong parfumed rooms, probably to mask odeurs from old carpets/ pipes / toilet … matrasses not as new as you would expect in a 4 star house. great is the friendliness of the staff who went an extra mile if needed (the only exeption was the receptionist who gave us an rather unfriendly and sharp “welcome” - seemed like Francesca had her bad day when we arrived … ) . beware if you are an elderly person or not super fit with stairs: the entrance is at the 1st floor with no elevator but staff is happy to help with luggage. to sum up: I might look for an other place next time I am traveling to Palermo, bc for this prices you get better values and similar location/ services.

Lovely hotel in the heart of Palermo. After a long walk from the station we went early to the hotel to stop our bags before exploring the city. We were pleased to be told we could check in as our room was ready. Reception staff explained about breakfast and local sight seeing available as well as making a restaurant reservation for later. We were pleased to be able to shower and relax after travelling via the night train from Rome in our lovely room. The balcony opened directly onto Massimo Plaza which was lovely at all hours with shoppers and tourists as well as street performers. However the room was quiet when the doors were closed due to sound insulation. It was great to be able to sit and watch the square from comfort. Breakfast is served in rooms and consists of typical continental breakfast choices. You select times and dishes the day before. Bathroom was clean and shower good which is not always the case in hotels! Staff couldn’t do enough and knew us on sight- well trained and very professional.

We had a nice stay in the centre of Palermo, rooms were clean and the hotel staff were very responsive to our requests and breakfast although simple was satisfying. The location was great, right opposite the opera house and made a good base for exploring the city further. What I didn't like was ... - The bed was uncomfortable and I woke up with a sore back over several nights in a row. - I have bad knees and you have to walk up the steps to the first floor where the reception is situated . This information wasn't available when booking and i'd of stayed elsewhere if I knew this. Also of note, but unrelated to the hotel is that the taxis in Sicily were significantly over-priced, for example : Mondello Beach (EUR 30), Harbour (EUR 15) etc
