My husband and I went as part of a relatively elderly group of 10 friends to Palermo for 5 days and the Hotel suited us all excellently. The location was very good, directly opposite the Opera house (to which we went for a performance) with numerous cafes bars and restaurants in the vicinity and with all the major sites of the city within a twenty minute walk. The staff were extremely welcoming, and helpful beyond the call of duty. We had a "superior" room which was spacious and comfortable and cleaned daily. Breakfast was served in the bedroom (for fewer people it could have been served at the bar but they asked us to take room service and the timing worked well). Breakfast menus a little limited (either "sweet with excellent croissants and pastries OR not sweet with cheese and cold cuts) but very nice. It was good value for money --we did go in January though. Entrance was straight up steps from the street so a little daunting but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to go again.

4-star hotel in the center of Palermo, in an early 20th century building, right in front of the Teatro Massimo, excellent for visiting the historic center of Palermo on foot.
It is not easy to reach it by car, as it is located in the ZTL (by giving the license plate at the reception they communicate it to the Municipality of Palermo in order to avoid being sanctioned for accessing the ZTL): you have to look for parking in the adjacent streets and squares of the historic center hoping to find one of the not many blue striped stalls there.
The entrance is not the best and certainly does not give prestige to the hotel: in fact, it is accessed through a small door that opens onto a fairly steep, dark staircase with a dark red carpet that gives the impression of being a little old ; I would recommend freshening up the walls with a lighter color, improving the lighting and replacing the carpet.
Once this first certainly not positive feeling has been overcome, however, upon reaching the reception, the traveler is heartened, as the environment, although small, is much better than the staircase and the staff is very kind and welcoming.
The rooms are good, large and well furnished. The bathrooms are also excellently clean and the supply of gadgets is complete (there are bath slippers... which are not always found in hotels that even boast 4 stars); small balcony with appreciable beautiful view of the Teatro Massimo square.
Comfortable bed and well air-conditioned environment.
Due to the limited number of common areas, they prefer to serve breakfast in the room, which limits the possibility of choice a bit, as there is no classic buffet and you have to list what you want to the staff, directly at the reception the evening before or for telephone. However, the breakfast is good and the offer, at least for what I ordered, is satisfactory.
Price of the room with breakfast certainly adequate for the location and the treatment.

Excellent customer service. Staff all spoke very good English and were courteous and engaging. The location is super right opposite the Massimo Theatre and on the main street Via Maqueda where there are lots of street food options and trattorias down the numerous side streets. The cathedral and normal palace are within walking distance. It is about a 20 minute walk to the railway station so we made use of the airport transfer service which was great. On arrival the staff carried our bags up the stairs into the hotel. All staff wear face masks and there is plenty of hand sanitiser available. Breakfast was served in the room to reduce risk of covid. Minor downside was that the safe was not working when we arrived. However, this was quickly fixed and meanwhile the hotel looked after our valuables. Our room was at the back of the hotel with no view but it was very clean, comfortable and quiet. Palermo is interesting. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a one or two night stay.

This hotel is in a excellent and beautiful location, the staff were excellent and very helpful. But this hotel is in DESPERATE need of renovation: we were in a Classico room on the back of the hotel; I’m afraid the view wasn’t quite what we expected but we were prepared to pay to upgrade to a Superior room with a piazza view and the view from the room we moved to did not disappoint. But I’m afraid what did was the first room’s carpet was filthy and worn, the bathroom tiles were cracked (although the bathroom was well cleaned). In the second room, we also had to ask the staff to kindly rehoover the room as the dust was everywhere!!!

The breakfast in the room is a nice touch, if you’re in a piazza view room (not so much in the Classicos at the back!), pretty tasty and punctually served ,but the true reason this is done is because there isn’t enough room in the main bar/dining room: it only has approx. 3 tables!

This hotel and its facilities are, I’m afraid, at best 3-star not 4; other examples are no lift (although VERY helpful staff do help with your bags!), plus things like paper cups for tea and coffee in your room… although the lovely staff will happily give you a China cup when asked!

I will say again, here, the staff are wonderful, very friendly and helpful and were kind enough to waive our supplement for the superior room at the end of our stay due to all the dust in the room! I would just ask the management to look at things like refurbishing the bathrooms and carpets and a lick of paint, then we would happily stay again!

The Massimo Plaza Hotel is a very exceptional hotel in the heart of Palermo. It is directly across from the third largest opera house in the world, Teatro Massimo. The hotel offers spacious rooms which every amenity. Our room had a balcony overlooking a large, busy piazza. The location is perfect with access to public transportation only a short walk away. Breakfast was served daily either in our room or in a very esthetically pleasing room. Housekeeping attended to our room as soon as we left the hotel for the day. The 24 hour/day front desk staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. We felt very pampered as we were assisted by Christian, Jenny and/or Francesca with restaurant/taxi reservations, help with directions or just anything we might have needed. To say our stay here was wonderful is a serious understatement! We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants luxury at an affordable price!

We had a nice stay in the centre of Palermo, rooms were clean and the hotel staff were very responsive to our requests and breakfast although simple was satisfying.
The location was great, right opposite the opera house and made a good base for exploring the city further.

What I didn't like was ...

- The bed was uncomfortable and I woke up with a sore back over several nights in a row.
- I have bad knees and you have to walk up the steps to the first floor where the reception is situated . This information wasn't available when booking and i'd of stayed elsewhere if I knew this.

Also of note, but unrelated to the hotel is that the taxis in Sicily were significantly over-priced, for example : Mondello Beach (EUR 30), Harbour (EUR 15) etc

We originally booked our trip in January 2020, and due to Covid, and several cancellations, we finally got to Palermo 29th May 2022! The staff at this Hotel have been amazing and so helpful, going out of their way to assist with our several cancellations (which was out of our hands). We were made to feel so welcome from the minute we stepped inside. Our Room (103) was lovely and although close to reception it was incredibly quiet. Breakfast was served in our room, and it was tasty, plentiful and delicious. Our room was cleaned daily. It is situated opposite Teatro Massimo, which makes it ideal for exploring the City. We could not find fault at all with the Staff and the Hotel. A Big Thank you to you all.

Charming, perfectly located hotel. The rooms were comfortable and clean, the view of the plaza was perfect. The doors to the balcony were pretty soundproof considering the level of activity in the plaza on a busy weekend.
The staff could not have been any better. Friendly, helpful. Truly accommodating and kind. The breakfast room was lovely and the breakfast was bountiful. When we arrived with luggage the staff immediately grabbed them from us and took them up the front steps. It was a perfect stay and introduction to our time in Sicily.

The Massimo Plaza Hotel is a wonderful, luxurious hotel in the heart of Palermo! The rooms were spacious and beyond comfortable! We had our choice of having a continental breakfast delivered to our room or set up in a beautiful eating area in the hotel. The staff was professional and could not be more helpful with restaurant reservations, directions and transportation. They were there 24 hours/day to meet any and all of our needs. The hotel staff, in particular, Christian, Jennie and Francesca gave us individual attention with the utmost in customer service. We cannot recommend this hotel enough for it's location, ambience and hotel staff!

Horrible hotel better stay away
Dirty room, broken bathroom, non-working safe, not to mention the terrible breakfast.

Furthermore, the professionalism of the staff is non-existent.
They also managed to get us a fine for having used their partner car park because they indicated the wrong number plate of our car for accessing the restricted traffic zone and... they took no responsibility... in fact they accused us of having provided them with the wrong license plate...
Other than 4 stars.... one star would be too much.
Stay away

It is quite difficult if you have a passenger with you they need to go into reception and a staff member will take you to the car park. It’s easy once you have found it!
