Conveniently located to enjoy the fascinating sights of old Palermo, the Excelsior exceeded our expectations by quite some measure. Whilst externally looking unimpressive the internal hotel facilities are magnificent. Our room was large and very comfortably furnished and lacked for nothing. Breakfast was served in a secluded area with small, convenient, tables with a very plentiful buffet with a large selection of dishes on offer. The buffet was continually replenished by very pleasant staff attired in old-style long black aprons - very classy! A very happy stay, thank you.

We have just spent 2 nights here and it has been really comfortable except for some traffic noise till about 10pm. The hotel is very regal and the breakfast terrific. Close to the shops and restaurants.

We booked this hotel as part of a flight/hotel/car deal never having been to Sicily before so were not quite sure what to expect. It turned out to be a good choice, being relatively close to the city centre, just adjacent to parks and had a pleasant bar and restaurant. The service was great and the staff most helpful. Our room was very traditional and comfortable with very efficient air conditioning (sorely needed after a hard day sight-seeing in heat and humidity) Breakfast and dinner were very good and restaurant/bar prices reasonable

Room Tip: Higher rooms mean reduced traffic noise, which was not intrusive in our second floor room

We stayed here for 7 days (both on our own and with a group tour). In addition to Murano glass chandeliers in the public areas (like in The Leopard), it offered a good breakfast buffet and easy access to the old city. The bathroom was unusual by American standards. It had a separate bathtub and shower with faucet controls different than we're used to (those on the tub worked opposite as marked). There were no grab bars. Sicilian hotels typically offer one bath towel and one hand towel per guest. We opened our window to dissipate heat (fortunately, temperatures were cooler than normal during our stay -- low to mid 70s). As we faced the main street, this could be noisy, though earplugs made it manageable.

I was not able to sleep well a single day of our stay. No air conditioning available, althought it was advertised in their brochure. When you open the doors there is a lot of noise and fumes from cars and cigarettes. When asked for another room they claimed that it will make no difference in another room. Located about 1-2 miles from downtown tourist area. One positive point is their breakfast buffet, ample choices but similar every day. Bus stop from the airport is very close to the hotel. We were part of a guided tour with no options, no choice.

Stay would have been much nicer if they'd had the air con operating. As it was sleeping with an open window was a challenge given the mid night traffic Good enough otherwise and a very pleasant breakfast.

This hotel has a great central location that allows you to walk and see much of the city. The rooms were very nice other than the lack of air conditioning (at least in April), requiring sleeping with the windows open which is not ideal from a safety perspective. The wifi was spotty depending on your room location. The breakfasts were outstanding. The staff was very nice but hampered by slow/dated computers (for check in/out, room charges, etc).

Our room was on the 3rd floor - a long walk from the one and only elevator. March 22 so Air Conditioning did not work. Windows were large in the ceiling. The windows and blinds open by switches on the wall. When we got the windows open we were able to cool the room and no pigeons flew in. Pillows were thin. We had to call reception for another bath towel. The WC refill was very slow - you had to wait awhile to reflush. Operating the shower was tricky. On/off was one level and the other adjusted the temperature. The plug in the bath was controlled by a rotary dial. The carpets are getting very warn. Lots of hot water. Good breakfast.

This poor excuse for a hotel is a joke. Dirty, old, tired and with stained furniture it is an embarrassment to the accor name. At 185 euro per/night in the off season, it is an absolute joke. The so-called suite - apparently one of the best rooms in the hotel - also smelled. My partner's asthma was impacted immediately. The room had not been cleaned properly and the furnishings/furniture had not been updated in at least three decades. The staff were unhelpful and bordering on rude. We cancelled our stay, we were planning a week, and had to go elsewhere. We have then had to fight to get our money back (we booked direct with the hotel so there were no booking agent issues) and are still fighting. As it stands, we have received only a partial amount back. We have the appalling state of the room we were offered on video. Happy to share with those interested.
