Having read all the rave reviews, I was really looking forward to staying at Albergo Cavour and while it did live up to its hospitality (with a special breakfast and unique architecture) every time I entered the property ... I felt awkward! The property is located on the 5th floor of a dilapidated, under-construction building. To enter it, you first need to buzz at the front door of the building, waiting for someone to let you in and then ring the bell again on the 5th floor, waiting for someone to open the door. While, these calls were always answered quickly, I felt awkward and hesitant when I had to enter/exit 3 times during the day and then return late at night! The property is a bit far off from the old town and the touristic spots (around 15 min walk) but very close to Palermo Central (just across the road). The room was spacious but outdated with no extra ports and no lights. Being on the 5th floor did give me some great views of the city! The property is family owned and managed, which is something that certainly made it unique - it was like living with an Italian family with the owner mopping the floor as I entered, the son handling the reception and the grandmother enjoying her tele in the kitchen! The bathroom was well equipped, the wifi was functional and having an air-conditioner was amazing. The breakfast is delivered in the room, making the stay extra special! Other small, minor gripes include having to switch on a geyser in advance of requiring hot water, no trashbins in the room and lack of English speaking staff! All that said, at the end of the day comparing the stay and the price, you cant ask for more and Albergo is certainly worth every pence spent! Would certainly stay here again if they can somehow work around the entry/exit scenario. The state of the building might put off some people but if nothing else, just visit Albergo for the heritage elevator (I personally have never ridden anything like that)

Good: Air conditioning was great Clean Shower good Friendly professional family staff Wifi Very good value Near main train Station Less good: We had a room next to the reception so we heard a lot - each entrant had to ring the bell from downstairs. The pillows are flat and firm - durable but specific Lights on the aircon and another ceiling device can disturb sleep of the sensitive Note: Soft beds Moderate Traffic noise

I had to sleep one night in Palermo just to catch an early train on the following day and frankly did not expect that much for such a humble rate. Once there I realized that the hotel was much more than a cheap lodging next to the train station. The lady who runs it was exquisite. The room was spotless. I have never slept in such clean linens. Even the throw on the bed was pristinely clean and ironed. The bathroom was the cleanest bathroom I have ever seen. The air conditioning and TV set were flawless. They would have even served the breakfast in the room if I did not have to run so early to the station. Thank you again Signora for your taste and generousity.

Albergo Cavour is a couple of minutes walk from Stazione Palermo Centrale and there is signage along Via Alessandro Manzoni. Access is by buzzer at the main entrance and then by a historic lift to the reception on 5th Floor. I had a warm welcome and I was asked what breakfast items I wanted delivered to my room the next morning, I was then shown to my Double Bedded ensuite room. The room was light and airy & was immaculately clean, the high ceilings gave a feeling of spaciousness. There was a small balcony with a panoramic view of the surrounding area and of the sea in the distance. The bed was extremely comfortable and the cable TV had an extensive range of channels, the wifi also worked well. The aircon was a godsend with temperatures in 30's outside. The bathroom was large with a powerful shower with liquid soap and shampoo provided and plenty of towels. The highlight was the breakfast which was brought in on a trolley with the items of my choice. It was so nice to have the balcony doors open eating my breakfast with the sun rising over the rooftops. Albergo Cavour is an amazing place and is in such a convenient spot close to Centrale and a 15 minute walk to centro storico. I was made to feel so welcome, the room was very comfortable with stunning views and the breakfast was delicious.

Room was small but ultra clean. Good sized bathroom. AC worked perfect. You have to carry your bags one flight to the 5 floor. The elevator only takes you to floor 4 for some reason. Then we had to carry up another small floor once in the hotel. Would be 5 stars but we didn't feel safe coming home in the dark. It's not the best area with some seedy characters in the area. We have travelled lots of places, and even as I guy I did not like it. Otherwise, we really liked it the hotel itself. Simple and clean. 5 minute walk to the train station.

The Cavour is very close to the Palermo central train station, so it is very convenient. It is on the 5th floor and accessible by elevator. It is family run, and scrupulously clean. It's a nice walk to many of the sights in that very diverse city.

Tucked away in a quiet street just around the corner from the train station is the little jewel. Perfect location for enjoying all the Palermo has to offer. Teatro Massimo, the amazing market place. The bathroom was clean and the beds comfortable. Would definately stay here again. And it has an elevator! Great Service. Although the lady that runs it does not speak great English she made our stay very welcoming.

While the street looks a little suspect, this hotel turned out to be a terrific find. It’s centrally located just a stone’s throw from the train station. It’s also a short walk to Palermo’s old town. The rooms are spacious and very clean and the family who run it are helpful and friendly.
