Nestled in the heart of Palermo, Mercure Palermo Centro is lauded for its prime location, steps away from the city's attractions and offering great walkability. However, opinions on the hotel's value and amenities are split; the breakfast variety is appreciated, but room provisions fall short for some, and the breakfast space can get crowded.
While cleanliness receives commendations for the tidy spaces, the ambiance and room conditions often appear outdated, sparking a call for refurbishments. Service quality also varies, with staff friendliness sometimes overshadowed by inefficiency.

Detailed Reviews
On the outside, this hotel looks like an average one. Step inside, though, and it's a completely different story. A fine example of "don't judge a book by its cover". The lobby is modern and bright and serves as a nice welcome and a strong first impression. The elevators are quite small, however that seems to be the norm in Europe. They also run fairly quickly. The rooms are simply not what you'd expect upon first glance of this hotel. They are quite modern and just the right size. Most importantly, they are CLEAN! The washroom is VERY large which is great, I dislike hotels that have small washrooms. The shower is also of good size and the shower power is good too. Location is also ideal, you're located nearby a lot of amenities and attractions in the heart of Palermo's city centre. I found the breakfast to be rather basic, but it had everything you would expect such as scrambled eggs, bacon, fruit, cereal, yogurt, etc.
Since I live in Canada, I'm not sure when I'll be back in Palermo again. However, if my travels take me to the area, I'll certainly stay here again.

Good location near the center of Palermo, rooms are nothing special, small phone-booth showers, but the water is hot and has high pressure. Rooms are the typical small European hotel rooms. We had a balcony but did not use it.
The best feature is an easy walk to a large number of restaurants.
Nothing bad, nothing great.

i would actually give Mercure a 5 star but there denial in providing me with iron is what has let me to give three stars.
it was really sad that they would not have an iron and iron board!
breakfast was 4 on 5
dinner was 3 on 5
also it’s sad that they provide preheated frozen food in there resturant .
so the bottom line is if you don’t need an iron for your clothes and you can find an alternative to there restaurant then it is a nice compact place .It’s a good hotel for 1-2 nights . But more than that i would suggest to avoid. Also may be due to covid regulations the AC was not working .
also the front desk is nice and responsive.

Dear guest, Thank you for your feedback received following your recent stay at Mercure Palermo Centro. I was sorry to learn that your stay on this occasion fell short of your expectations concerning the dinner and I apologise for any discomfort or inconvenience caused by the absence of the iron and iron board. Unfortunately, as my colleague explained you, for safety reasons we cannot provide any iron and iron board in the room, but we do provide an external laundry service for any need. I would like to apologise furthermore for the dinner you experienced: the menu offers a wide range of fresh choices, I am sorry If you felt your dish was not fresh as It was supposed to be. I will talk to the F&B manager to make sure that the waiter will help any customer on this hard choice of the fresh dish. We appreciate though your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Sincerely Andrea Stancato General Manager

My Husband booked this hotel for us to rest up after our lovely wedding, as it was stressful during these times. I emailed the Mercure ahead to see if they could offer us an upgrade or something nice for when we arrived. The Mercure replied positively. They booked our taxi from the airport and we were looking forward to our stay.
When we arrived, we were offered a room on the 3rd floor. There was no mention of this was the upgrade I was asking for, not even a congratulations.
Our room was a nice size and the bed was comfortable. There was a large balcony with no furniture, and when we first arrived, there was a man on our balcony, we think he was cleaning, and wanted to cut through into our room to leave. The WiFi can be a bit hit and miss, but mostly ok. The air con is noisy but it can be left on all day and turned off a night if needed. The shower temperature seems to be in the wrong place. There is a danger of knocking the lever with your arm, making you scold or freeze before you have realised you have knocked it. The bathroom floor is very slippery when wet. The room was clean, although housekeeping did forget to clean our room on one occasion.
The hotel is in a great location and Palermo has excellent street food. So I would strongly advise to not pay extra for breakfast at this hotel. It is far cheaper to go elsewhere. Due to social distancing, the food is now served to you, and you have to queue up for it. If I wanted scrambled eggs of on toast, I would have to queue for the eggs and for the staff to put the bread in to cook. I would then have to queue again to collect the toast and my eggs would be cold. Hot drinks are supposed to be offered to you once seated but we were sometimes missed. We gave up on breakfast we had paid for on a couple of occasions and went straight for the street food.
Because of the location I would stay here again, but I would do a few things differently. I would not pay for the breakfast, there are plenty of places you can eat at a much cheaper price. I would also bring a travel kettle and milk for the empty fridge in the room. That way I can have a hot drink every morning.

Dear Sarah Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your stay at the Mercure Palermo Centro. I was happy to read your comments about our room and our great location, We genuinely regret those occasions when the service does not meet expectations and we are constantly monitoring our contractors and administration procedures to ensure that an efficient and reliable service is supplied. All contractors used by Accor are recognised for holding a reputation for superior service within their field. This is why I would like to apologise for any discomfort caused by the shower and the lack of forniture in the balcony: As with any guest feedback, it is always hoped that a guest may bring any issues they may be experiencing to our attention at the time, as this gives us the opportunity to address them there and then to ensure a guest has a much more enjoyable stay with us. I am unsure if you did afford us this opportunity. Given such a chance, I believe that the team, which as always been positively commented by our guests, as being friendly and helpful, would have done their utmost to make this happen.. Thank you once again for your feedback, which is invaluable in our efforts to assess and continually improve upon the quality of our service. I hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Mercure Palermo Centro and better meeting your expectations in the future. Sincerely Andrea Stancato General Manager

I have been staying in many Accor hotels throughout Europe for many years both for business and leisure purposes. Unfortunately, my experience in Mercure Palermo Centro has been by far the worst. We have arrived with my family at around 20:30 to the hotel, quite tired after a drive from Catania. We were not aware of the bad surprise waiting for us. I had simply booked a room through booking.com for 2 adults + 1 child (child to stay for free). The receptionist told me that the room that I booked is called "Family Annex Room" (to be honest I did not pay any attention until that moment) and it is located in another building, 100 meters away from the main hotel building. I have rechecked my booking confirmation and also showed the staff, and there was no indication at all anywhere stating that the room I booked was going to be somewhere else. I therefore asked to stay in the main building and they said that it's possible but only if I pay a surcharge of 100 € / night! The receptionist and the manager on duty on the evening of April 8 were really not helpful at all and they said that I should solve my problem with booking.com. So, I called the customer service (it was around 21:00 and we are more tired and hungry!), I have proved that there's no indication about a different room location. After some moment, I was offered by the customer service that the hotel can offer me to stay in the "upgraded room" (which means simply a room in the main building), one night for free and the second night for 50 €. So, it went down from 200 € to 50 € but why should I pay for this? As we were really exhausted, we decided to go to this other building. This room is located in an office building, where only one floor is allocated for Mercure. The building is probably the ugliest in the center of Palermo, the lift is out dated and my 9 year old daughter was anxious all the time we used it. We have not been shown or guided about any emergency regulations such as fire exit/stairs. What would have happened in case of an emergency situation in that office building where we were left alone? We had a very bad sleep as the bed was cracking all the time and from 06:30 in the morning there was a lot of noise from the main street (Via Roma). Because of this, the next morning I went back to the reception asking that we would like to change to a room in the main building for the second night. Guess what: They said it's possible but again with a surcharge! So I was offered this room for free the previous night but they wanted to rip me off when I wanted to change the room. I refused to pay and slept in that ugly office building one more night. Thanks God my stay at this Mercure Hotel (in reality where I stayed is not a hotel!) was only for 2 nights. My whole Sicily holiday was almost perfect, with the very nice & friendly experience in a B&B in Catania but the worst part was the accommodation in Palermo. The only good part about the hotel is the location, being really central and accessible on foot to main attractions. Maybe the rooms in the main building are good but we could not enjoy!

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay at Mercure Palermo Centro. We value all guest comments as they help us to continually improve our services. We would like to clarify that the room type you booked, the "Family Annex Room," is indeed part of our hotel's accommodation options and is located in a separate building adjacent to the main hotel building. This information is typically provided during the booking process on platforms like Booking.com to ensure transparency for our guests. Regarding the additional charge for staying in the main building there is nothing strange becouse different rooms have different rates as you can see on booking.com or the accor website. We understand that traveling can be tiring, especially after a long drive, and we regret any inconvenience caused by the situation. Please know that your feedback has been shared with our team to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Best Regards Andrea Stancato Direttore/Manager

This is a very nice hotel in the center of Polermo with a very modern decor. We had a large room with 2 single beds, a sofa and 2 upholstered bucket tpye chairs. There was another chair at the desk. Bath facilities were very modern also. It featured a bidet and a towel heater/dryer. The shower was kind of small and it's floor slippery. One wall was all windows overlooking a very narrow street. Included breakfast was good.

Not a bad hotel in terms of rooms. We booked 2 rooms, one of the rooms does not smell very nice. The beds are comfortable, clean. Breakfast is quite modest, no vegetables at all. Nearby is a pretty cool restaurant Locale. Not far from the port. Parking is difficult to find, used the underground garage for 16 euros / day. Coffee at the hotel is very tasty :)

My single room must have been over the exhaust vent for the kitchen, because the odors of frying fish, onions and other foods permeated my room. I asked for a room change, but was told there were none available. The desk sent up a guy with a bottle of perfumey smelling spray and I told him to NOT use this, so he sprayed the carpet around the outside of my door, so I now had the fried food and a chemical spray. The room was also unbearably hot and the same guy could not adjust my heat. I would have opened my window (despite the fried fish), but it was a large window that opened onto an exterior corridor with stairs, so I did not feel safe opening it. The bed and pillows were comfortable and the bathroom was fine, but it was not a good night's sleep because of the heat and odor. The breakfast was fine and it was nice to have a barrista instead of the coffee machine. The hotel caters to a lot of tours. I was part of a student tour, so if I were traveling on my own, I would probably choose another place.

Dear guest, Thank you for sharing your experience regarding your recent stay at Mercure Palermo Centro. We sincerely apologize for the discomfort you experienced due to the odors permeating your room from the kitchen exhaust vent. It's regrettable that we were unable to accommodate your request for a room change and that the alternative solution provided was not satisfactory. We understand the importance of a comfortable environment for a good night's sleep, and we apologize for falling short in this aspect. We appreciate your feedback regarding the temperature of the room and the safety concerns with the window. We will address these issues with our team to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to improve the comfort and safety of our guests. We stayed at this hotel two separate times during our stay in Sicily in April 2022. It's a lovely hotel. It's right in the middle of so many sights and felt safe. Our rooms were spacious and comfortable with big bathrooms. One of our rooms had a view of the hills and the other was street side. My mom's room had a huge balcony that we spent time on soaking up the sun and the sounds of the city.
My main reason for writing this review to highlight the AMAZING care the staff provided to my mom and her friend. They caught COVID and were quarantined to this hotel. I was terrified leaving them in Sicily while I went home but the staff took such good care of them. They knew their room number and would ask how my mom was feeling when she called to order breakfast (which is a great breakfast by the way). They helped coordinate retesting. They reassured my mom and were always available to help. My mom and her friend were living off room service and would rave about how great the food and wine was.
One employee in particular, Barbara, went above and beyond. She would stop by to see my mom and help her with whatever she needed, such as going to the supermarket to get medical supplies. They were stuck there over Easter and she even brought my mom a chocolate Easter bunny :) and she brought them flowers too and it really brightened their day. My mom and her friend both said she had such a pleasant personality and made them feel cared about and loved.
I truly believe their great service actually helped my mom and her friend recover quicker. It was so reassuring knowing that they were in caring hands. We want to go back as soon as they can and will pick this hotel again. Thank you everyone who works there!

We really enjoyed our massive corner room with comfy sofa and generous bathroom. The staff at the hotel were really attentive and friendly, both before and during our stay, and they were always a pleasure to deal with.
We were a bit disappointed by breakfast however. We paid extra when we booked but the offering was only coffee and a selection of half a dozen pastries. I understand everyone is approaching the current situation a bit differently but this was the most minimalist offering of any of the 3 Mercure properties we stayed with in Italy. Still a nice way to start the day but I wouldn’t recommend for big eaters

The hotel we stayed at was more in the city center but it was not that far from the coast. you could dive there easily (except at rush hour).
When I was there they only had scrambled eggs served in a covered container. No one is making them to order. I think they also had hard boiled eggs.
The nearest beach is Mondello, about 30 min by bus.
The hotel is in the city center.
