In the heart of Palermo's Art Nouveau district a 5 minute walk from Teatro Politeama Garibaldi and Teatro Massimo, with bus stops 100 meters away for all the most beautiful and famous sights of Palermo the Hotel Gallery House enjoys the most privileged position among 3 star hotels in Palermo. It is easily possible to reach the classical itineraries of Palermo to see the remains of the ancient cultures that made Palermo the capital of civilization. Arabs and Normans left their mark at Zisa Castle (from the Arabic Al Aziz "splendid"), royal residence of the Normans and today museum dedicated to Muslim culture, Norman Palace, symbol of the powers that ruled Palermo from the Arabs to the Normans and Platina Chapel with its splendid Byzantine mosaics.

We called to reserve and agreed on a price with the receptionist. Later when we had already made plans they contact us to double the price we had initially agreed on. I understand mistakes but this seemed more like a tourist trap and unfair business.

CAUTION: if you're planning a trip to palermo, sicily, do not book a room at the Hotel Gallery House! Booking.com lists that "hotel" with an average rating of 9.1/10. what you actually get, though, is what you can see in the pictures attached to this post. first of all, the place is not what you'd expect when booking a HOTEL: it's not a seperate structure but rather one level of a huge commercial building. after we complained to the staff about the condition of our first room, we got moved to a supposedly better room, but as it turned out the second room was just as run-down as the first one was. particularly the bathrooms were totally unacceptable: the toilet seat fell of the bowl. the shower cabins were not properly sealed, everytime we had a shower the bathroom ended up being completely flooded. the wallpapers, the windows and the furniture looked more than shabby and many items were not fully functional. furthermore, none of the rooms had a ceiling light. there was no safe in the rooms. in the morning, staff would chat loudely in the hallway which made it impossible to sleep in. on the third night, ultra loud music on another floor of the building kept us from sleeping until midnight. after another fruitless complaint, we informed Booking.com about the situation and checked out the next morning since we couldn't take it anymore. neither the Hotel Gallery House nor Booking.com are willing to compensate us for our awful stay and the remaining three nights that had already been paid for. over the past years, we've made countless reservations via Booking.com and we've never had an experience like this ever before. feeling massively ripped off, this was very likely the last time we would book an accommodation on their website and we can only encourage you to precisely look into what you're about to book on Booking.com. feel free to share this review, it might just spare one of your contacts a terrible stay.

This hotel is unlike any I have ever stayed in throughout my entire life of traveling Europe and the states, but if you keep an open mind and adventurous heart than you will be just fine. The hotel is located in a large building filled with other "hotels" and lofts on each floor... This hotel is located on the third floor of the building. That is when we started to notice that this may be a little bit of a different hotel experience; We were welcomed by the very sweet owners who speak broken english and appreciate when we tried our broken Italian, lol. The hotel is just one floor with about ten rooms, small lobby, and small breakfast eating area. My room was nice, not a great a view, the electricity kept turning off several times a day and I would have to turn the power box off and then back on again, and the shower doors were messed up so water leaked out onto the floor. The rooms were cleaned reached day very nicely though and any request we had the staff provided. It's an old Italian building so there a bound to be issues, but this is more like a cross between a "hotel" and bnb. My grandparents room fridge didn't work and they replaced it within 24 hours, their window latch was broken so the window can not be opened, and the bathroom sink leaked when in use. The walls are thin so in the mornings we were able to hear the other guests getting up and talking in the hallway. The air conditioners did work though which is always a blessing! The location of the hotel was convenient to a lot of the main attractions and the hotel provided information for tourist activities. We bought our hop on hop off bus tickets through the hotel and were able to walk less than five minutes to stop 1 on the bus map. Overall, the place was a different and not a typical hotel experience but if you keep an open mind you'll be just fine. The staff was really great and we probably would not have stayed if it wasn't for how kind and welcoming they were to us the entire time!

It is not a hotel, it is a flat with some rooms on the 2nd floor in a building, owner lives there and monitors everything, they are very laud, they wouldn't allow you to leave the place on your own, they can only open the main door, we waited there much time before they would show up with the keys. BE CAREFUL! They charge you extra for breakfast!!! 1 coissant and 1 coffee in included, all others, like an apple is extra. They made us pay extra 35 euros for a few extra bites without any notice. And no prices, no information, no signs, just extra bill when you check out. No pay, no passport. They charge you double for the city tax, and wanted to call the police when we disagreed with this treatment. They were rude and agressive.

After an excellent week in Sicily we booked into HGH for our last night. The price, location, cleanliness & facilities cannot be faulted but that’s where the positive feedback ends. This is the first negative review we have ever written. We had a room facing onto Via Roma and the noise levels were so extreme that we initially thought that the window was open. At 5am, when the street sounds started to fade, someone in the next room decided to move furniture & then we were entertained with the noise of someone vomiting for hours. The point here is the both the windows to the outside world and the walls within the property are paper thin. We genuinely did not get an hour sleep between us. We had asked to move rooms but were told it was “not possible”. Now. Onto breakfast. So it’s “included” but the “buffet-style” is heavily guarded by the bouncer who insists on serving you your food from the buffet. This, evidently, is to control your intake. We were offered a 2nd coffee & on check-out were charged €2.50 for it. Small bottled water was €2.50 too. Customer service was extremely poor. When I highlighted the noise issue on departure the woman at reception shrugged and said “it is the city”. We have stayed in many cities and slept soundly. It was the most uncomfortable night either of us have spent in a hotel & we would strongly advise against staying here. We do not recommend this hotel. Stay away!

This little hotel is a gem. Very tasteful, at a wonderfully central location. Three things are quite exceptional: Their breakfast puts five star hotels to shame. Everything was delicious. Too delicious! The bed linen is so amazing that you find yourself reluctant to get out of bed! Most importantly, they have the most amazing staff. They go out of their way to advise you on where to go and what to see and find any information you could possibly wish. They cater for your every wish, always with a smile. Particular praise must go to their Mariella and Alessio - the loveliest of people who make your stay unforgettable. Lovely people, lovely hotel, lovely city!

Good location BUT wifi did not work in our room and we had to go to the dinning room to use it. If you cannot speak Italian I wouldn't recommend staying here, the language barrier was extremely difficult. Our air conditioner did not work. The power constantly went off and would come back on in the middle of the night or turn off while in the bathroom and be in complete darkness. We missed breakfast one morning when the power didn't work and they brought us a simplified breakfast but we couldn't ask for what we wanted because the reception didn't speak English so basically got what we were given.

HGH occupies one floor of a building of mostly small hotels. It comprises 7 bedrooms and a breakfast room, plus reception desk and utilities for staff. You get there in a semi 'doors to manual' lift. The reception staff were delightful, friendly, helpful and always charming. The room was small but clean and simple, with adequate furniture; the compact bathroom is a section walled off the bedroom, a common arrangement. Our room overlooked the street and could get noisy in the rush-hour. However. the location so near the old town and many good restaurants made this a minor gripe. The magnetic key system was useless and we used the old in-the-lock method. Breakfast was plentiful and good enough for us; various breads, spreads, cakes, fruit, juices, cereals, coffee machine. For easy access to the main sights/sites, it's good value.
