Hotel is located in an exquisite ancient building on the waterfront of Ortigia, the historic centre of Syracuse. Giving onto the ancient "Mastra Rua," where the Siracusan nobility resided from the 14th century, the hotel is a starting point for cultural itineraries. Its recent restoration maintains the original structure made of three buildings, contributing to its dynamic layout. Rooms are furnished differently with antique furniture, four-poster beds and refined interior decoration with distinctive Sicilian touches and Mediterranean features such as colorful bathrooms tiles.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel, it was a trip deferred from April, so we were a little unsure about travelling in October. The hotel changed from the centre of Ortigia to the Algila and I have to say we were delighted with the trip. The hotel is in a great location and close to the sea to offer a great view and outlook from the balcony.

The staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing seemed to present any problem to them and they were always pleased and keen to assist. It is a shame there is no outdoor space but most days we were on trips around Ortigia, the archeological park in Syracuse or the beaches further south along the coast. You can cover almost all of Ortigia in three days. I would recommend a trip to Noto and to the Marina, which is actually a beach and also Fontane Biache(?), which is smaller but still nice sand and clear sea.

Hotel was great and we would visit again at some point, its about 1hr drive for the airport and close enough to a beach to travel by Taxi, which can be arrange through the Hotel, who can also provide beach towels. Great place to visit and an endless number of restaurants, all we visited were wonderful but for a truly magical evening dine on the Piazza Duomo looking at the Cathedral. We thought the prices would be inflated for restaurant in this spot but they weren't, so try it.

I didn't book this hotel but was sent here when the Antico Roma decided they were undergoing renovations and couldn't honour our booking. But it was a blessing because this beautiful, well-conducted hotel was a perfect retreat; in the old town near the water, superb breakfast and helpful, efficient staff. We would have preferred a sea-view to a blank air well since Syracuse is famed for its location and I need fresh air, but the sea view rooms were unavailable.

Aliglia Charme was a great location for our two night stay. We were traveling with a rental car so they offered valet parking for $30 euros/night. Considering the parking nightmares in Sicilian towns this was a blessing. Ortigia is a great walkable town. Our room overlooked the sea and had a nice operable door for a French balcony. Breakfast was included and the offered full menu items in addition to a nice spread of cheese, meats, cereals, and breads. The location was just a short stroll to any one of several plazas where there was always great activity and food.

Situated on the quieter eastern-facing side of Ortigia, this character-filled hotel, decorated in a kind of hybrid Italian/Moroccan style, overlooks the sea and is about a 20 minute walk from the main train or bus station.
The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. Breakfast is included, with a slant towards Sicilian cuisine, with all sorts of sweet pastries and cakes along with cheese, fresh fruit, yoghurt and so forth. They will cook you hot food as part of the breakfast.

The standard room that we booked was a little small and looked out onto a wall so we upgraded to a junior suite (room 106) which has a nice seaview (you are looking across a small car park but it's still very nice to look at the yachts on the sparkling water).

However this does bring the price up (in our case 350 euros a night) which is on the high end, but the location and the setting I think are worth it. You do not, however, have a balcony in this room though I believe some of the other rooms do have them. The front window can be opened fully though to let the sea breeze through, if you want. It's a fairly quiet area so while there's some occasional traffic, it's not really an issue.

The actual room was great, with excellent aircon and a comfortable bed, but we do prefer a firm mattress, which this definitely was.

A nice touch is that the minibar is full of still and sparkling water and soft drinks which are all free. Also a bowl of fresh fruit was provided on checkin.

The hotel will pick up and drop off to Catania airport for 60 euros which is I think a very good option as it is under an hour by car.

There is a nice cozy bar downstairs along with the restaurant; the food there is quite nice though portions are small so you may want to order a couple of side dishes.

Italy has obviously suffered badly during the pandemic and the hospitality sector is still ramping back up. This means that at times staffing levels were fairly modest and you might have to pop to reception if the bar is unstaffed; the folks there are extremely helpful and will ensure you are served quickly, This also means that you may want to book early in the day for the restaurant as a large table booking can stretch them to capacity - there are, of course, lots of restaurants within a short stroll of the hotel.

I will say though that we really enjoyed our stay here. It is the staff that ultimately determine your hotel experience and the staff here are, as I said, absolutely lovely and helpful.

Reception and breakfast staff were fantastic & could not help any more than they did.
Car parking with hotel is a must, as limited road parking close by.
Under present restrictions the ability in your room for hot drinks could be looked at, by not a necessity.

The hotel is larger than it appears as there are rooms in other buildings and appears to cater to tour groups which can make the lobby and breakfast room crowded at times and increase waiting time at reception. Despite the name, we didn’t find the hotel very charming. Our room was a sea view junior suite with private terrace and was in the next building which is quite pretty and has a lovely entry and lobby. Coffee and tea are set up in the afternoon and there are some comfortable sitting rooms. The room itself seemed on the small side for a junior suite, but the terrace was nice, with private jacuzzi, chairs and lounge chairs, overlooking roof tops and nice views to the water.
Location is great for walking to the morning market and through the old historic streets. Beach towels are provided if one chooses to dip into the sea from the nearby bathing platform, drive to a beach or swim from a boat tour.

Dear Aliza m, first of all, I would like to thank you so much for your comment about your recent stay at Algilà Ortigia Charme Hotel! Your room was a deluxe Spa with a jacuzzi on the private terrace with a sea view to enjoy the breathtaking views of the sea in Ortigia. Many things he described including the continuous attention to the needs of customers, as well as the original and historic architecture of the building, are part of the charm and atmosphere that can be felt in our hotel and that our guests recognize every day. Once again thank you for your comments, we hope to welcome you again in the near future at our Hotel in Siracusa. Warmest regards

Lovely gem boutique hotel offers the best of Italian hospitality, food and location in Siracusa. We stayed two nights - the sea view rooms are particularly lovely - and took advantage of the location near the sea on Ortigia island. The staff helped us with reservations to several outstanding local restaurants and made us feel like we were treasured guests. Breakfast is included along with the minibar for water and soft drinks. Charming and comfortable place to enjoy the best of Sicily.

We had a perfect experience at this charming hotel, well situated by the sea in Ortigia. When we arrived the man at reception looked at our luggage (we were traveling in Italy for 3 weeks so had several suitcases) and decided we needed a bigger room, so he upgraded us to a junior suite at no extra charge. That was just the start of a perfect experience. The breakfasts were absolutely lovely: a beautiful buffet, full of tasty croissants, cheese, fruit, and on and on, and you could order fresh cooked eggs at no extra charge if you wanted. The location is ideal for walking anywhere you want in Ortigia, and even to Syracuse (we walked to the Archeological Park), and our room was spacious, pretty and comfortable.

One of the best hotels I’ve stayed in.

Great location - in a quieter area but still very close walking distance to the centre, outstanding service - Marcello in particular is world class - and lovely decor in a historic building. Faultless!

We enjoyed every minute and would definitely stay again if visiting the area!

This was one of the best boutique hotels we’ve stayed in! All of the staff went out of their way to help us with our needs, including organising excursions. The breakfast buffet and breakfast to order menu were more than enough in terms of quality and variety, including lots of Sicilian foods as well as omelettes and continental options. We’ve also never seen such a collection of coffees on the menu! The hotel itself had beautiful architecture and beautiful interiors. There were lots of areas to sit and relax, including in the bar overlooking the sea, an outside seating area with a fountain and the very cosy and grand lounge area. There was a study with a Mac computer which was extremely useful to be able to use. We also took out the free bikes for a ride in Ortigia which was wonderful. The rooms themselves were beautiful with wonderful bathroom tiles and room decor, and a small balcony. My parents booked a classic suite for their birthdays and it was extremely spacious with a sofa room, two bathrooms and a reading mezzanine. They also had their own steam room. Ortigia itself is beautiful with narrow cobbled streets, wonderful sea views, delicious food and wine and lots to see. The hotel is right in the centre.

We can’t say enough how much we enjoyed our stay at this hotel and will definitely be returning as soon as we can!

The Hotel is lovely but does not have a pool or public outdoor seating area. Many of the rooms have balconies and at least one has an outdoor patio. Along the eastern side of Ortigia, maybe .5 kilometer, there is a an area with access for sunning and swimming. No real sand beaches anywhere on Ortigia
