Great to visit, but please whoever is travelling by car do not follow GPS coordinates especially if it has rained, a veritable deathtrap. Have to thank my lucky stars for driving a Subaru XV, a small car would not have made it in the muddy lanes leading to the villa. Management can do nothing about this.

We only had time for one night and had the breakfast buffet which was most satisfactory. Would definitely recommend and revisit. Rooms were clean and nicely decorated. Dining hall has so much art and ornaments to view - really lovely.

Unlike most sicilian ´agriturismos'--well known for their welcoming generosity, this establishment only grudgingly will acknowledge your presence. Theyir breakfast is not worth showing up for, and although they do not serve lunch or dinner ("we are NOT a restaurant'" we were haughtily told), they refused to give us the least hint or help to book meals in the area. This...

I've stayed at more than 30 agriturismo's and this was my least favorite. There is a big problem with mold and mildew here even though the staff said the smell was from the antiques. It is not the antique furniture but instead the wood ceilings ... even the mattress and sheets are moist. There is a huge mosquito infestation on...

If you are in Sicily, close to Siracusa, don't miss this amazing place. Located in the beautiful land, sorrounded by fruit trees, fields and of course rares and wonderful papiri, this b&b will give you a special peaceful sensations. This property was an old beautiful house located inside the Riserva Naturale Ciane e Saline .Everything is well restored with taste,...

Location is very good if you want to be in a quite area away from the traffic. The gardens are lovely and the staff are very helpful. You just need to rent a car but that is needed anyway in Sicily if you wish to visit many sites such as Catania, Etna, Taormina, Ragusa, Modica or Agrigento. The nearest beaches...

We had a very unpleassant experience - the pictures looked great but it's really just on the surface. It was dirty and smelly and nobody spoke English and pretended they could not help us and clean it. Breakfast was from the supermarket - way too expensive for the experience!

While the setting is lovely and the property well-maintained, I was very disappointed in the room I was assigned. It was a handicapped room, which I did not request. The toilet seat was too high and the shower, which was walk-in, leaked from the bottom, necessitating my having to mop the floor each time. The floor was dirty when I...

My partner and I stayed here 1-8 June 2015. We travelled down from Catania Airport by car (hired from Fire Fly - good service and would use again). We used the SatNav until we were sure we were on the right road and then followed directions from the highway to Siracusa. Just to add some clarification to the directions, when...

Villa dei Papiri is beautiful, looks like a typical gorgeous Italian Don's Villa in the orchards straight out of the Godfather. Gives you that impression as you drive through the gates and down the gravel covered drive through the orange and lemon groves. The buildings and grounds are spotless and quite a view, the rooms are a descent size and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The holiday farm “Villa dei Papiri” is an old Sicilian house dating back to the 19th century. It dominates a 13 hectares area rich in organic farming of lemons and oranges and surrounded by papyrus plants, palms, olive, almond and carob trees, cypress, bonsais as well as other wonderful Mediterranean plants. It is located 5 kms away from Syracuse, inside the Natural Reserve of the River Ciane & Saline, a few meters from the mythological spring source Fonte Ciane whose myth of Persephone is praised in the Metamorphoses of Ovid. It is surrounded by beautiful Egyptian Papyri, exactly the same papyrus used for the preparation of those extraordinary paper rolls on which most of human history has passed, and it continues to grow wild in this place unique in the world. The area also denotes an archaeological as well as naturalistic interest , as there are several Paleolithic remains such as tombs, caves and wells. These valuable findings show the presence of the ancient Sicilian habitation; the Sicilians were the Indo-European ethnic group that inhabited eastern Sicily, while the other ethnic groups of Elymian and Sikelian people inhabited respectively the west and the center of the island as reported by the historian Thucydides . In this vast nature reserve Villa dei Papiri is an historical building of great landscape value. Elegantly refined and equipped with every comfort it offers to its visitors the opportunity to relax and enjoy the beauties of the place. ... more   less
