A charming beaux-art residence on the banks of the river Arno. In the heart of Florence's historical center this is the perfect place to stay to enjoy the city. I really enjoyed the awe inspiring views of the lights on the river and the tranquility of the area. The residence is walking distance from the local shops, cafes, bakeries, and...

We chose Palazzo Aria della Ripa because of its affordability and proximity to the Scuola Linguaviva, as well as being easy walking distance from other major attractions in Florence. A major bonus was the views up and down the Arno River at the front and some hills at the back. The property itself is old but reasonably well maintained and...

My daughter and I stayed in a 2 bedroom suite for 9 days that was quite comfortable. Maria Christina was very kind to take our last minute reservation. The room suited our needs as we didn't do much cooking. It did have a small "kitchenette" in the suite and a small common kitchen just outside the room. We used mainly...

When I arrived to a long confirmed 10 day stay the manager denied any knowledge of the booking. That was a great start. She blamed the on line booking site for not allowing her access, for many months and despite her repeated efforts.(although amazingly she had access the very next morning) She did arrange one night accommodation at a nearby...

I highly recommend renting from Maria Cristina. The location can not be beat. The apartment was clean with many amenities. (Kitchen, washer machine, etc) The VIEW IS MAGNIFICENT. We had a terrace overlooking the Arno river and the building is safe next to the consulate. easy to walk to many restaurants and not as noisy as staying in the heart...

My stay was June 2012 but no option to put that date in so I have placed it for June 2013. A delightful and well finished apartment. A/C worked well which is important during Florence's hot summer. Plenty of rooms and space. Bedroom well positioned and quiet. Terrace above standard so many hours spent sitting and relaxing while soaking up...

When visiting such a place as Florence, Italy, you have a wide variety of the types of places to stay as well as locations in the city. There is none better than the Palazzo Aria della Ripa. The location is the best because it is not buried in the streets with no view but on the Lungarno Vespucci near the...

I posted a negative review of this hotel/residence from my experience January 2012, and my previous posting was deleted. I paid a deposit 6+ weeks prior to arrival for a 3 month stay in a specific shared apartment. These residences are advertised as housing for Polimoda, but in fact they are not associated with the school. My room became unavailable...

Jessica I remember you very well: you reserved one bedroom in a shared apartment, but in the realty you didnt want to stay with anybody else, you would live on yourself in an apartment, pretending to pay just for one bedroom! I understand you, but it is not possible, I'm sorry! Nobody changed you the bedroom, because you pretended to...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.

“There are a wide variety of rooms from singles to multi-roomed full aparments, to carriage house rooms. They are all well cleaned and equiped with modern conveniences while at the same time keeping the 19th century Italian charm of the original building. The rooms are better and well located for the money than any other hotel of its star rating. You can rent rooms for one day to months. The owner is very involved and very accomodating. The rooms facing the Arno are amazing.”
