We were booked into this hotel by the tour company. Yes, it's across the street from Santa Maria Novella, but location isn't everything. The orange paint on the walls was nightmarish. The bathroom flooded with the first shower. The strange tub/shower pan was slippery and we were very careful to avoid falling. We were on the first floor and the...

When we arrived at the "Hotel" we were assigned 2 rooms on the first floor. Upon entering the rooms one had the A/C fan running full speed. The other room the A/C wasn't working. The rooms both had a very foul odor of mold and mildew. We asked to be moved. The staff wasn't happy about doing so but complied...

We stayed at this hotel for 4 horrible nights at the end of our otherwise enjoyable stay in Italy. The room was very small, especially the bathroom. The toilet leaked and the air conditioning could only be turned on by your key card to the room. The air conditioning did not work well at all. The worst part was the...

This place was terrible and wouldn't have been my choice of hotel (was chosen by my tour company). The hotel had a foul smell of mould. The air conditioning could only be turned off via reception and no matter how many times we told them to keep it off for our stay it would continually be turned back on. The...

We were put into this hotel by a tour company whose services I do not intend to use again. The room was extremely small and the shower compartment was a tub with the shower head in the center which may a good shower next to impossible. The food service was good according to European standards but not to our needs...

We stayed here with a tour group and had a room overlooking the street. It was everything I could have asked for -- lots of restaurants in the area, snack shops, could walk to all the places we wanted to stay. Very helpful staff -- we had trouble with the internet and they helped us log on and use the...

The hotel building should be gutted or torn down. It has significant plumbing/sewage problems which produces a strong odor throughout the East wing of the building. Exterior/street rooms are also very noisy....

However my fears were not necessary! as soon as we arrived we were impressed with the hotel, the staff were incredibly friendly and spoke english very well! We...

I have read endless bad reviews about this hotel and felt I had to write about our recent stay. We booked a trip through Gate 1 Travel Agency (which I highly recommend as well) and stayed at the Croce di Malta in Florence. We totally lucked out with an upgraded room which was very large with a beautiful balcony which...

Situated round the corner from the bus terminus was handy. We were given a large double room - parquet flooring, wooden furniture and a view of the street outside. Beware the shower in the bathroom, as the curtain that surround it is not long enough to stop the water flooding the floor so usually the floor is soaking wet! It...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
