Outstanding staff and view of the city as well as spacious room and accommodating balcony. Breakfast hard to beat! Rooftop view and location couldn't be better. Close to RR station yet away from large crowds while still easily convenient to downtown and most museums and other sites.

We spent 4 nights here in the middle of a very hot spell (reaching 40degC) so the roof-top pool was a godsend. Our room was at the front ie overlooking the Piazza Santa Maria Novella and some other reports complain of the noise at night. Although small groups do gather in the square during the evening, we were never disturbed...

Our family of 4, two adults, two tweens, stayed at the Hotel Grand Minerva on Aug 2-7, and was so pleased, it was by far our most memorable stay during our Italy trip. The Staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was very convenient, few minute walk to the SMN train station (around the Santa Maria Novella church proper,...

Dear Guests, Reading your review is a real delight to me as the manager of Grand Hotel Minerva. Seeing that our efforts reach their goal and are so highly appreciated is the greatest satisfaction I could ask from my job. I would like to spend a word on our restaurant rooms. Our plan (was and still) is to have seats...

One suite - two large rooms overlooking the Piazza Santa Maria Novella. Room and bathroom were great. Interesting location that attracts musicians and many others during the day and throughout the evening. This could be a problem for some but was not for us. Excellent gelateria in the corner of the plaza. Pool on the roof very nice with excellent...

I booked for my parents to stay here as part of their 35th wedding anniversary present and they were overjoyed with the hotel. They said the location was fabulous-right in the heart of Florence, the service was excellent and the staff went out of their way to make them feel very special. The hotel was clean and very luxurious with...

After a 5 minute walk from the railway station we entered this beautiful square and there was the hotel. It was a very hot day and we were tired after our train travels, the lobby was cool and inviting, a very helpful young man in reception, Rodolfo. Our room wasn't ready , so we asked if we could have a cool...

Dear Guest, thank you for having chosen our hotel for your stay in Florence. Your review gives me the opportunity for some clarification. 1. Bar hours: At least one bar is always open from 10.30am to midnight (breakfast is served from 7 to 10.30am). During summer time the bar in the lobby is open only from 10.30 (not 11.30) to...

We stayed here for two nights during August. There we 4 of us, 2 adults, 2 children and we had a perfect stay. Our room was lovely with two big beds, a marble bathroom with jacuzzi bath and big power shower! It was very clean and comfortable, overlooking the square. We experienced no issue with noise and our view of...

While it is a little more expensive than other hotels in Florence-it has a beautiful view on the rooftop with a pool for those hot summer days. Beware that one day a week they shut down the pool area for a free appetizer social time but SO many families and couples were disappointed since it was a hot day-they don't...

Dear Guest, thank you for being with us and for your kind review. I would like to add a couple of words about our swimming pool opening times. The rooftop terrace and its pool are open every day from 9am to midnight (I can assure you that these long hours are not very common). The pool is operating in the...

Just spent a most enjoyable week here. Our room was a superior double overlooking the Piazza Maria Novella. It was comfortably furnished with a large ensuite. Our only complaint about the room was the totally inadequate air-conditioning. It was not nearly powerful enough and would not go below 26 degrees which we found stiflingly hot. We complained and got a...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
