We stayed here for 3 nights in October 2004 as part of a tour package. While not the worst 3-star place I have stayed, it definitely has it's problems. a) Being in the historical part of Florence, it's definitely noisy with street traffic until 10pm. b) We had mosquitoes in the room if you opened the windows c) The bathrooms...

I cannot believe these reviews! I was booked on a tour which used Le Due Fontane and having read these reviews was greatly concerned. I called the tour company and voiced my concern. They assured me that there was nothing to be concerned about.THEY WERE RIGHT!! This little hotel was well located, had clean rooms,NO ODORS,NO NOISE, NO DRUNKS or ADDICTS!!!...

I have just returned from a stay of 4 nights at the Due Fontane and couldn't be more pleased. I lived in Florence for three years and stayed at the hotel with a group. The location is spectacular, within 15 minutes of everything. As stated, there is a crowd of "unsavories" lurking across the street until early in the morning....

Just got back from a three week trip to Italy. The low point of our whole trip was Florence and the Hotel Due Fontane. Avoid it at all cost. I agree with the other reviewer about the drunks, noise and horrible smell. The hotel staff was rude and uncaring. Even though it was very warm the air conditioning was not...

I recently returned from Florence and i have to agree with another reviewer that discussed the problems with the La Due Fontaine. First ...we got the room that was directly above the drug addicts on the corner that sarted their evening of fun at about 10pm. They continued their yelling and screaming until 4am everynight with stopping. When we asked...

My mother and I recently stayed at the Due Fontane, and our stay, overall, was a good one. As a previous reviewer mentioned, the septic system released a foul odor into several rooms (we were on a tour and I confirmed this). The bathrooms in general were the least desirable part of the hotel. Ours was lit only by a...

Recently returned from a stay at Le Due Fontane. The hotel is across a piazza from the Accademia and a few blocks from the Duomo, which is its main selling point. It also has free internet in the lobby which is convenient for travelers. However, the staff was very unfriendly, the rooms were very dark and more than once the...

Located north of the Duomo, the hotel is a bit off the beaten track. However, the hotel's location isn't a fatal flaw since Florence is such a compact & walkable city. We stayed at Le Due Fontane for 2 nights in late September 2003. We moved to another hotel for the remainder of our stay in Florence because there were...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
