I stayed in a single bedded room, so it was small. The room was also very dark. Breakfast was included but had very basic variety. The location however was perfect. 2 min walk from the train station and it only took 5 minutes to walk into the main Piazza and the Duomo. Ponte Vecchio just 20 minutes walk.

As an avid tripadvisor reader please do not stay here. My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights during our 2 week adventure of Europe. Our room was right across the hall from the breakfast area, this was our first redflag. The room was dark and even painted black and we managed to kill 3 mosquitoes within minutes. If...

Stayed for three nights in April/May for a friend's wedding. The positives: The hotel staff are really friendly (reception is open 24hrs, very knowledgeable and helpful, breakfast buffet ran out of pastries so staff went out to buy more). The location is great, being so close to the railway station. The room we had (number 26) was huge and overlooked...

We just arrived in Florence after a beautiful stay at a 3 star hotel in Venice. We were given our key to a "standard" room. The room was dark. You could not read anything even in the afternoon with all the lights on. There was no place to unpack any clothes. But that did not really matter because you could...

Smack dab in the middle of everything, this hotel is all you really need. If you dont order "with a view" you might end up with a room facing the back yard (at least it is shielded from all the noises of the city, wich is a good thing). Clean rooms and friendly, helpful staff. As a 3-star hotel, this...

We were in Florence for only two nights. This hotel is only about a 5 minute walk from the train station and provides easy access to most if not all the great sights in Florence! The staff is not only professional...but very courteous and friendly. Wi-Fi works well and their breakfast better than average. Our room was the smallest we...

Venice to Florence a very long journey by train that was very different but when your plane is on strike and you can only find a different way of getting somewhere, well you take it and find it. Get insurance it is worth the extra money for worse case scenarios.

Location is perfect! Excellent staff -- very helpful and accommodating. Offered to make breakfast to-go for us at 4am! They also let us check in early and upgraded our room for free. Downside: you have to pay for wifi (only 6Euro) and the elevator is old and somewhat unstable. Overall a great place if you are on a budget

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
