We loved hostel Gallo d'Oro! The hostel was very clean and the security was great. We had a double room with our own bathroom and thought it was lovely. The continental breakfast in the morning was the best I've seen at a hostel thus far. The lovely woman who did the breakfast for us always asked to make us coffee...

I fell in love with Hostel Gallo d'Oro! I came and stayed for 7 nights in total without a reservation as a friends from a previous hostel recommended it to me. There were no spaces left online to book but the amazing staff ended up fitting me in anyway. I changed rooms a few times but it was well and...

It really makes a difference when the staff are accomodating. Each staff member were absolutely lovely here! We arrived early on our first morning and they offered us brekky as soon as we walked in.the brekky was fabulous for a hostel. They helped us with everything, booking tours, any info we needed etc. our room was fine, although we were...

I stayed at this hostel May 20-22nd in the 4 bed female dorm. The room was simple and clean, with two single beds and one bunk bed. You choose your bed on arrival and are assigned a locker to match, with a key for it, so you don't need a lock. This was wonderful! The bedroom had an ensuite bathroom...

Ciao L.!! Thanks so much for your precise and detailed review. We're glad you've been good in our hostel and we are waiting for you again as soon as possible. Unfortunately, in those days of May, there were technical problems of internet connection in the whole area around the hostel, beyond our control. But everything was solved within a few...

This is one hostel I will never forget, it was like staying with an extended family for a few days. My friend and I were in a 4 bedroom with two other lovely girls and we ended up spending a lot of our time with the other guests. Marco was very welcoming and they put together an adorable and tasty...

When I originally checked in, I was given a room with a shared bathroom, even though I had booked an ensuite. I was told to wait the next day to speak with Marco. Because it was late, I was tired, and everything else seemed to match expectations, I made no fuss and was switched the following day. Apparently hostelworld's online...

We booked a double private room with ensuite bathroom. We were first given a room with a private external bathroom with two single beds and weren't happy. I had a great experience in this hostel. Staff was very friendly and knew all there is to do in florence. You just have to ask them what you want to do and that's it. The room was nice but i always recommend to bring earplugs if you are going to share a room. One night though the ac was...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.

“Our room (room 1) was literally right outside of the breakfast/common room and lobby. It was pretty noisy all of the time, with people checking in/out, people hanging out the common room late at night and then others up early eating breakfast the next morning. It wasn't a huge deal (it's a hostel), but light sleepers or families may want to see if they can request a room further away.”
