Lucca is a magic city! Just wandering and soaking it in is wonderful - the beautiful walk round the wall, the narrow streets where bicycles, small cars, and people seem to merge quite contentedly together, the tiny little lanes, the wide piazzas....... Lovely restaurants seemingly on every corner: stunning shops, beautiful churches and, always, a Puccini concert! We stayed here...

stopped here from Venice on our way to Rome. Loved this hotel. The service was great and Lucca itself is so beautiful. A little rainy while we were there but a maze, yes maze of beautiful shops, gelato salons and gorgeous architecture. The walled city is large yet intimate. The restaurants, parks, shops are worthy of a few days to...

The hotel's easiest enough to find if you enter through the correct gate to the walled city but parking and finding you way out again through narrow one way streets with sharp turns is tricky. So leave your mercedes or jaguar at home and hire a punto ! The rooms are ok. Nothing too special and nothing too wrong, but...

We stayed three nights, day tripping to Florence and smaller Tuscan towns from Lucca. The hotel is lovely, with a beautiful breakfast/tea room in the morning and personable staff. The decor is exquisite. Excellent staff recommendations for dining inside the walls of Lucca. Highly lrecommend.

Lucca as a walled city had wealth and power, this hotel is a reflection of that splendor. The decor and building materials are of this era. The hotel was built in 1044 above a Roman tower that you can see in the breakfast room, the hallway floors are marble, the rooms are inlaid timber, the furniture is period. The location...

Our first night in Italy and we could not have been more pleased with our three night stay at this warm and wonderful hotel. Traveling by car we passed the hotel and thought we were lost when a handsome young man (managers son) tapped our window and had us back up a the narrow street just a little and there...

Great location. Lovely hotel. Welcoming and friendly staff. This was a true delight. We arrived outside the walls and were met by the proprietor's son who took our luggage. As we checked in we could tell the pride Mario has for his hotel and his city. He was eager to share stories about the decor and history of his property...

We stayed 3 nights and wish it could have been longer. This was our first destination after arriving in Florence and it could not have hoped for a better choice .Took a bus from the airport for about 6 Euro each, a lot less expensive than a train and very scenic. Hotel Alexander was no more than 7 minute walk...

We booked one night here at the end of our visit to Tuscany. The rest of the time we stayed in an appartment in Florence. The Hotel is very near the bus station - an easy walk even with luggage, and the bus is a great way to travel to and from Lucca. This is a family run hotel and...

Stayed here for six nights during our trip to Italy. Took a taxi from the train station, just ten minutes journey. Arrived a little early and was welcomed from the minute our taxi arrived, cases taken into the beautiful reception area. Lovely small hotel which we prefer, more personal and the owner Mario obviously knows the business well and is...
