My wife and I stayed here for two days during our recent tour of Lucerne and Mt. Pilatus. We loved the hotel old world charm and hospitality. It’s not air conditioned but allows you to open room windows to the cool fresh air coming from the lake and mountains atmosphere. Service was excellent and we especially enjoyed the buffet breakfast. Easy to walk to the gardens across the street along the lake. They also offered us free use of public transportation to ride the bus to nearby restaurants and shops. We toured the Lion Monument, shopped for chocolates and souvenirs to take home for friends. Most fun was riding the gondolas to the top of Mt. Pilatus and enjoying the wonderful Alpine mountains. Thanks for your part in making our trip to Lucerne so memorable and special.

Stayed at this hotel largely because parking was available for our rental car. The location is convenient - there is a bus stop practically in front of the hotel and just across the street there is a lovely walk along the lake to the city center. We stayed in a room facing the lake with a small balcony. View was lovely but you cannot sleep with the doors or windows open as the street in front of the hotel is very busy and noisy. There was no a/c. The hotel seems to cater mostly to group tours as there were tour buses off-loading passengers when we arrived. The breakfast was mediocre and paled in comparison to the other hotels we stayed in. The staff in the bar and at breakfast were polite and helpful. While the building is pretty with a lovely porch on which to sit I would look elsewhere if I were to return to Lucerne.

I love the grand and impressive facade of this hotel. It will surely lure you in. However, it wasn’t a very comfortable stay. Our room was small and bathroom even smaller and quite out of date. I also learned that they don’t have air conditioning, which is common in Switzerland because it was cool at night. However, since our room was facing the street, we couldn’t keep the patio doors open because of the sound of cars driving by. One thing I liked is that bus numbers 6 and 8 stop right in front of it.

Built in 1874, this grand hotel primary serves couch tour groups from around the world. We saw groups from Korea, Germany, and the USA. The rooms were refurbished in 2005 and bathrooms were modern and large. Some of the common areas are getting a bit tired and they were renovating the kitchens when we were there. Miguel mixes great Aperol Spritz and Hugos in the lobby bar. The hotel is a 1 minute walk to the lake front promenade and 10 minutes from old town Lucerne via bus 6 or 8.

This beautiful old age and architectural culture hotel, I met it in 1982 for the first time. Now because of my work I visited it with a group of people I had there. Sure the hotel is old, the rooms need a radical renovation, the same is the breakfast or dinner room, you must also find a solution with the entrance to the reception, because you have to climb about 15 steps with the suitcase. At the positive always the welcoming staff, the beautiful and romantic bar with the amazing balcony, will make you feel great. Finally, its very good location, on the lake, makes you walk by the lake, in the center of the city!!

What a beautiful hotel this is. Situated on the gorgeous lake luzern this hotel oozes Period charm and elegance. It’s short walk or free local bus ride to all the shops and restaurants of Luzern and The famous and moving Lion Monument is also a very close and easy walk. The staff are outstanding, in fact I’d go as far as to say exemplary. Friendly, efficient and professional but most of all personal with great local knowledge. The bar and restaurant are beautiful and the food and service terrific. Sitting outside on the terrace with a nice cold drink, overlooking the lake and across to Mt Pilatus totally encapsulates everything you imagine Switzerland to be! It is something everyone must do. If planning a visit to Luzen, then I would definitely recommend the Grand Hotel Europe.

Stayed on business in the month of October, unusually still mild so enjoyed walking around the shore-line of the lake. The hotel, is old fashioned but kept clean with the upkeep maintained to a high standard. Rooms, are airy, light and functional, bathroom & toilet spotless, high marks to the cleaning staff ! Breakfast in the morning was superb, from the bacon to the eggs, sausages and other varied offerings. Service from EVERYONE, from the welcoming to the goodbye, I could not fault. I enjoyed my stay and absolutely loved Lucerne, a place you need to put on your 'bucket list'.

Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. The breakfast was mediocre at best. The shower was scalding hot or freezing cold. The blower in the room didn’t work and it was crazy hot day and night. They told us to make sure the lights were turned off if we opened the windows at night due to the misquotes. Again worst hotel ever.

I love staying in this hotel, which I have done many times on business. The location is fantastic, there are amazing views across to the mountains -enjoy a drink on the terrace bar to really appreciate it - and it’s only a short stroll along the lake into Lucerne’s picturesque old town. The excellent hotel staff are professional, friendly and efficient. For a truly ‘Swiss Experience‘I would highly recommend the Grand Europe.

A 3-star hotel at best. Definitely could use updating of the public spaces and the rooms -- everything is just worn and tired looking and not in a cool historic way. The bath in our room was very sad and tired. Front desk staff was disinterested and disengaged with no interest in actually engaging with guests even for something as basic as checking out. Be aware that the hotel does not have air conditioning at all which was an issue given the hot/humid weather we experienced. The windows do open, but our room was situated such that there was no cross ventilation unless we left the hall door open. We did get a fan which helped considerably but fans are limited and others in our group were not so fortunate.

The Easiest way to get from Lucerne to the Zurich airport is to take the train. Catch the city bus (#8, I think it was) from in front of the hotel Europe to the Lucerne train station. The trains run every hour to Zurich and some routes stop at the airport. Cost was around 15 Euro for a 2nd class one-way ticket per person. The train ride is about 45 minutes.
Sorry, I missed your question. Yes, the hotels does provide the usual toiletries like soap, shampoo, etc. I cannot vouch for the quality or brand of toiletries since my girlfriend and I rarely use them. My girlfriend and I both prefer to bring our own travel size toiletries.
sorry RRV 65 cannot help with your question as our stay was booked by a tour group and we arrived late in the day with several of our tour group. Busy and tired unloading luggage and so did not notice check- in times etc Perhaps you could email them and ask this question or check its website for more such detail. Good luck though and hope you find the information you seek.
