Arriving late at night, it was superb to find access to our hotel directly on station platform. We were greeted warmly at reception & check in was done without fuss. Our room was upgraded at no extra cost, which was rather pleasant. A comfortable room with all the facilities we required. Breakfast in the morning was self service, apart from... More

We were happy with our stay at Hotel Derby and would recommend this hotel. It is close to the tracks but you probably will not be bothered by the trains unless you leave the window open. This may be an issue if your room is too hot as the hotel doesn't have AC. We had a corner room with a... More

What can I say, this place is fantastic, OK so its still in the seventies but that's not a problem, its clean very friendly and efficient. The food is great and plenty of it, 5 course meal always varied and that will change anything you don't like. The best views are at the back of the hotel as it looks... More

If you are visiting Grindelwald, Switzerland and are searching for a place to stay, consider the Hotel Grindelwald. The location is the best...adjacent to the train station and at the foot of the main street. Their restaurant menu is excellent and their inclusive breakfast was the best of our travels around this country. They hosted a hospitality evening with snacks... More

The location is fantastic...just across the road from the station to the eiger. We splashed out and paid the upgrade to a junior suite and it was like walking into a 70's time warp. Nothing would have been update in at least 30years! Having said that, the location is great with fantastic views of alps from our shared balcony. Also... More

This hotel is set on a railway platform which means if your driving you have to drive along the platform to park your vehicle! Good fun to say the least! The hotel was lovely although the room was a tad on the small side. Breakfast was plentiful with lots to chose from, hotel staff very nice and if you're lucky... More

We stayed for two nights in August. The staff did not close the curtains of our south-facing room during the day when the temperature outside was over 30 degrees C, therefore it was ROASTING all through the night (and did not help us get quality sleep). Opening the windows was not an option, as that just attracted tons of flies... More

We stayed here for 2 nights in July as part of a large group. I have stayed before and it is a very clean and comfortable hotel with off road parking right in the centre of town. If you get a room looking out over the mountains it will have road noise all day and in the morning with delivery... More

We have vacationed in Grindelwald for 5 out of the last 10 summers, and stayed here all 5 times. We love this place. You can have a great breakfast while you wait for your train. When your train comes, just get up and take a few steps on to your train. It's a great place. My wife and I love... More

Arrived after a 6 hour plane and rail journey and to say I was pleased to see the hotel infront of me from the steps of the train was is an understatement! Also waiting on the platform was Nick our Thompson/Crystal Rep, who took my bag and helped us into the hotel and through a seemless check in. The hotel... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The very walls that greet you as you approach the Hotel Derby are steeped in history. The "Hotel de la Gare" was built here by the legendary Captain Gsteiger at the end of the 19th century. The same underlying principle applied then as it does now: we want to offer our guests a holiday that will long remain with them as a happy memory. Just travelling to the Derby is a pleasure in itself. The journey by rail could hardly be easier. We are passionate about hospitality and welcome you with a very special combination of attention to details and unobtrusive service. Stylish rooms and suites offer you plenty of space to unwind, relax and take in the splendid Mountain View. All rooms offer view to the surrounding mountains and are equipped with shower or bath/toilet, satellite TV, minibar and safe. The junior suites additionally provide a separate sitting corner. Most of the rooms have a balcony. In total 4 restaurants are at your choice. Either for an elegant dining experience, a tasteful 5-course-menu, a hearty Swiss dish or one of the various fondue specialities, our knowledgeable staff will be happy to advise you and to complete your stay by an attentive service. ... more   less
