The hotel is located centrally near ETH Universität. Very accessible by public transport and a 3 Tram stops to the city center. The tram stop to City Centre and airport is only 2 minutes walk. Staff are friendly but the communication is Vintage ( Example: Guest- “May I have sausages and omelette because I don’t like cheese, ham and bacon?”, staff will reply, sorry that’s your problem. This is both rude and vintage) just like the hotel itself. Breakfast is extremely traditional too and since there is no kitchen, there isn’t much room for flexibility.

My husband was giving a talk at ETH (a university in Zurich), and the person organizing the talk booked this hotel for us, because it is very close to their facilities. I looked at reviews here, and their webpage, and thought it looked fine, but I wasn't blown away.

I was very pleasantly surprised. This little hotel is wonderful. The decor is very understated but sophisticated, with a Parisian feel. A blue, yellow and white color scheme soothes but doesn't overwhelm. We were in room 16, on the first floor. The room was not huge, but typical size for a 3-star European hotel in a city. It had an actual queen-sized bed, not 2 twins pushed together, which was nice. We did not have a flat-screen TV, but a little 12". Not an issue, since I didn't even watch it. The bed was very comfortable, with a feather duvet for each of us. Very clever the way they make the beds, we found the same thing in Holland. Our bathroom was a decent size, with a standing shower with no tub (the only disappointment. I like to soak after a long day of sightseeing in the chill). My favorite part of our room was a set of double doors that opened onto a covered balcony outside with a little table and 2 chairs. The weather was a bit chilly when we were there, so we didn't use it, but in warm weather it would be a great little place to hang out. Every part of the hotel that I saw was very clean and nice. The breakfast was delicious (Continental-style), with cereal, hard-boiled eggs, cheese, fruit, salami, various breads and wonderful coffee. They bring a little tray with a tiny coffee pot, and a tiny pot of steamed milk. So cute! It was a great way to start the day.

The hotel is within easy (10 min.) walking distance to the central train station, if you are in good shape and like to walk up and down hills. I found several staircase shortcuts going up the hill, which saved time. For those with mobility issues, you can take the 6 or the 10 trams, which run frequently. There are plenty of hotels at the bottom of the hill, closer to the tourist district. I didn't go into any, but they were larger. They looked nice too.

Zurich is a beautiful city, with a lot to offer. I would love to return, and I would definitely consider staying at the Sunnehus again.

I have been staying at Sunnehus several times now, it is my favorite when staying in Zurich. Rates are okay, being located in Zurich, location is excellentand close to ETH. Central station is just a few minutes away (by tram), and maybe 15 minutes on foot. If you come in by plane, you may consider taking tram #10 from the airport, which takes you within 30 mins to the stop just a few yards from the hotel. The lobby serves as library and breakfast room as well, and is decorated with a sense for detail, making you feel you were in a private home. By contrast, the rooms, although clean (of course) and spacious enough, they lack a personal touch and feel a bit sterile. If you get thirsty, don't consider the minibar, the prices may be a bit steep for you. The tap water originates from the pristine glaciers you saw coming in, it is actually that good. Breakfast: don't get me wrong, all I need is a muesli and a coffee in the morning. However, I do expect a little more than what Sunnehus offers. Nibble-sized cheese pieces wrapped in plastic? In Switzerland? Come on... Overall, if they expand the personal touch of the lobby/library to the guestrooms, and they seriously rethink their breakfast policy, they would get 4-5 stars from me.

The hotel would be reasonable in the cooler months (all containing an r.) Do NOT stay at this hotel in the summer. No air-conditioning, completely useless fans-- and you will stay awake not only from the heat but from the noise of the helicopters from the nearby hospital.

Uncomfortable bathroom-- kiddie-size sink, mini shower where the water pressure and temp can never be counted on...

Breakfast was the same everý day and nothing special.

I stayed in this hotel as it was arranged and paid for by my employer. Had i been there privately I would have walked out and foudn another place to stay.

Room Tip: If you stay in summer-- which I do not recommend-- at least stay on a lower floor!

This small hotel was convenient to ETH University and the staff were very nice and helpful. The continental breakfast was adequate. Our room was small and not air conditioned and it was very hot during our stay in early June. The hotel provided a small electric fan if you asked for it..The room furniture was minimal and bathroom fixtures were old but worked. A lot of noise from ambulances going to a nearby hospital and from church bells came through the open windows. The neighborhood did not have many close-by restaurants but was near a tram station that was useful in getting around. Prices for the hotel and for the food in restaurants were incredibly high for the value, but that is the case in Zurich. Probably would have liked this hotel more if it had not been so hot or we had had a larger room on a lower floor.

The hotel is nicely located within 30sec walking distance to ETH, and 10min walking distance to the center. The room I had was clean, and pleasant. There is a decent continental breakfast from 6:30am (great for a hungry jetlagged traveler that wakes up at 5am). It is a great hotel with nothing to complain about.

Tip: the hotel is walking distance from the central train station, but it is uphill, and if you travel with luggage, I suggest to take tram 6 or 10 to the hotel.

Two of us stayed in two separate rooms. Mine was quite nice with a good sized bathroom and free internet. TClean. Standard free breakfast. Nice and pleasant staff. My pal's room was also nice, but his bathroom was a bit small.

The hotel is well located and it allows you to reach the city centre after a small walk. Be aware that at night it’s not the best if you’re a single woman to walk back from the city centre to the hotel, because the road is dark and gloomy close to the university (it is however, not dangerous, just a bit scary).
The hotel has one of the most ancient elevators I’ve ever seen. It worked nonetheless.
The rooms are old but however equipped with all the comforts. Shame that I didn’t see any AC, so this could be a problem in the hotter days of the year.
We didn’t take the breakfast as it looked very poor and we only parked there (15 CHF each night).
The staff is very friendly and helpful.

I stayed in this hotel for two night during my visit to ETH Zurich. The hotel is located near tram stops, and about 15 minutes walk downhill to downtown. The room is not big, but
ample for a couple of people, and as expected from a Swiss hotel, very clean. Breakfast is the usual stuff. I would prefer to stay closer to downtown, but the stay was satisfactory.

We have been visited at this hotel twice and I will start with the family room in which 4 people can stay. It is a big room and the only room at this type in the whole hotel. However, it is located close to the breakfast and reception...you open the door and immediately you face the breakfast room. The door is heavy and you can't hear a thing, a quiet room! I didn't like the bathroom which is small and a bit neglected although clean.

A double room: please take into account that the rooms differ from one another. In one room you can find a parket floor and in the other a carpet and the sink is outside the bathroom....Overall the double rooms are nice and clean.

A single room: a spacious room! A big beautiful bathroom. new and clean.

The reception staff is very kind, eager to help, great staff.

The breakfast: very good! bread, rools, gems, cereals, yogurt, croissons, cheese, eggs.

Location: 10 minutes walk down the stairs which are near the hotel, to the center...not to easy to climb it on your way back but that's OK. Near the hotel there are pizerrias, COOP few minutes walk up the street nearby. If you are given a room that faces the main road then take into account that if you are a light sleeper, you are about to get up at about 6:00 AM even if the windows are closed (although heavy windows).

Time to airport: 15-20 minutes, smooth drive, without any confusing turns and such.

To sum up, I defintely recommend on this hotel. Great location, staff and rooms.
