We stayed 1 night in this hotel, passing through during a cycling holiday.
The welcome was friendly and there was a covered, lockable storage room for our bikes.
The room was spacious, with good beds. A window could be opened (no screen), but because of traffic noise we left it closed and it insulated well. There was an air conditioner that made a somewhat popping noise, but cooled well and did not blow on the beds. There was a good instruction manual, which was useful. There was writing paper on the desk with a pen. There was also a booklet about Emmen, but that offered little information, especially advertising for Emmense companies, and it referred to events that would take place in 2012.
The bathroom was not new but clean. The toilet was in the bathroom and there was a large bath with a deep entry, no separate shower. The towels were thick and soft.
We stayed there well and safely. The basic services were absolutely there.
We hesitate between 4 and 3 stars. Why not a 5?
There were no facilities in the room to make coffee or tea. When one of us found it too hot and removed the duvet from the clean white cover, that duvet turned out to be particularly dirty, with large yellow and dark spots.
Breakfast was arranged in a somewhat cramped passage, where you had to dance with fellow guests to grab something. The one vending machine for tea and coffee was too little for the number of guests. From the juicer comes a kind of highly diluted lemonade syrup that tastes strange. Slices of cheese and sausage are on a plate under cellophane (refrigerated the night?). A dot of jam comes out of the jam machine with a small explosion, next to the cup it should be in. It all makes an automated, ill-groomed impression. You may not sit down at some tables because they are already set with linen napkins for dinner. The fabric chairs are grubby and have stains.
In the bathroom hung two large black bottles of liquid soap, which only with very hard squeezing and pushing released a little of the combined hand-shower-shampoo soap. There were two disposable cardboard cups. The pedal bin had to be opened by hand (no foot pedal).
The whole hotel is dedicated to an Emmense art movement called Toyism (“toy movement”), a form of cheerful, street-art-like art that is clearly very dear to the owners’ hearts, but to our taste sets the tone very much: the building is painted with it, everywhere there are records and paintings with toyism, books with toyism, even on the grand piano there are two on the music stand.
In short, you can stay here fine, you sleep well and safely, nothing wrong with the basics.
But if you want to feel like you're really a welcome guest, that you're being seen and greeted, and that the staff thinks it's important that you enjoy a little extra care, personal stay, we think the hotel definitely has some points that deserve attention.

Upon entering you are welcomed by a hospitable and friendly reception, we were offered a free upgrade for the colorful love suite.
Upon telephone request, an ironing board and iron were immediately brought, later an extra duvet.
The next morning we enjoyed an extensive and excellent breakfast in the attractive restaurant.
There was only a clothes rack in the room, no closet, this was sufficient for one night.
Highly recommended, this hotel!

We were received very kindly by a lady and a gentleman, with M&M's for the youth. The room is clean and tidy and wonderfully comfortable for 4 people. It was also nice and quiet, hardly any noise from outside or from other guests in the hotel. The bath and air conditioning were really a big plus. We visited the Zoo, which is within walking distance of the hotel. This is super! After a busy day, you can relax in your room within 10 minutes. Or have a nice meal somewhere, there are plenty of restaurants when you walk out of the Zoo.
The breakfast buffet is also excellent. Wonderfully extensive and they have also prepared all kinds of tasty things for the youth. The breakfast staff could be a bit friendlier, 1 lady complained to a guest that she has to work so early every morning and another young lady sighed audibly because the table was full of crumbs.
We visited the center, which is also within walking distance.
In short, we had a wonderful stay and we definitely want to come back again.

Beautiful hotel, very welcoming. The location on the edge of town was awesome for my usual late night walk, the neighbourhood is very cosy and quiet. The family room we stayed in was spacious and provided enough luxury. The beds were comfy and the bathroom with tub was clean and pretty. Breakfast was delicious and the restaurant is really beautifully decorated. All in all a wonderful experience.

Rooms are extremely noise, group of young people were drunk and on drugs, but hotel was not aware of the nuisance.
Rooms were ok. Breakfast was good. People were friendly but did not get the feeling they really cared about our compliants.
Not fare from the zoo, but surroundings are uninteressing

For a few months I had to be in Emmen every week for work and I chose Hotel TenCate to spend the night. Great hotel for a great price with friendly and helpful staff and good breakfast in the morning. The restaurant also attracts people who do not stay overnight and is recommended by locals, which says enough.

Looking for an overnight stay for a visit to Wildpark Emmen. This is because it is quieter and less tiring from Eindhoven. For example, there was the option to take out a package through Hotel ten Cate, a 10-minute walk to Wildparks. Tickets, accommodation and breakfast for one price, fine. Also booked a surprise dinner.
The reception is fast, cordial and clear. The room (we got the "love room" hahaha) was clean, colorful and well equipped with a double shower. The downside was no bath, although that was stated for a standard room, but oh well. We slept wonderfully. The surprise dinner was very tasty. Upgrading from 3 to 4 courses was also no problem. The staff was cheerful and pleasant. The atmosphere was family-like, there were also families with young children walking around, everything was just pleasant. The downside that needs to be addressed are the vending machines in the corridors, which are not very reliable, but that can be solved with an inspection. Would be worked on. All in all, we gave them a solid 8 out of 10, which is very good.

Were hotel just inside had to pay right away, room was WORTHLESS small and on the road side.
Sink that was clogged and shower in bath terrible (not convenient for older people )
No good TV in the room bothered and unexpectedly in the night fire alarm off several times you sit right up in your bed and do not know what is going on very poor communication.
Breakfast was very mediocre, if this should be a rich breakfast you better go to a real hotel.
Service was also not best would clean the room agreed, nothing done no new towels no toilet paper had to go and explore yourself to get your stuff.
Just worthless.
You'll NEVER see us here again.

Yesterday we arrived full of anticipation. And it was disappointing. The room was small and dated, without air conditioning. There were stains on the walls. The lights on the bedside tables didn't work. In the bathroom we found cardboard cups. For the € 160 room, that's a bit of a shame. The overhead light above the bathroom door was also so large that when the light came on in the bathroom the whole room was illuminated. Not recommended in our opinion.
