The Market Hotel Groningen garners high praise for its spotless rooms and modern facilities, enhancing guests' stays with its overall cleanliness. Attentive and professional service is consistently lauded, adding to the charm of the hotel's inviting and modern atmosphere. While the central location is a hit for being close to attractions, some visitors note street noise.
The hotel's rooms are celebrated for their modernity and comfort, though a few guests point out issues with sound insulation and temperature control. Nonetheless, many find the value undeniable, often highlighting the superb breakfast and premium amenities.

Detailed Reviews
The location of the hotel is excellent, in the middle of town with parking very close and most attractions within a few minutes walk. Good ambience, friendly staff, clean and well maintained facilities. The rooms have excellent sound and heat insulation. Spacious room with comfortable bed.
I did not like the glass bathroom walls and frosted glass toilet walls and door. There is a sensor in the toilet that turns the light on when you open and close the toilet door and due to the glass this light penetrates the bedroom at night for a while before going off. The glass cupboard and glass walls reflect any light in the room.
The restaurant food was good, the service was very slow.

A great modern hotel in the heart of Groningen. There is a parking garage behind the hotel where you can park with a modest discount from the hotel. From the hotel you enter the Grote Markt with catering establishments and the shops and entertainment area nearby.
The room was light, spacious and modern with a good bed and good facilities such as a mini fridge, Nespresso machine and kettle, safe, etc.
A beautiful open bathroom and a separate toilet room can be separated with a sliding wall.
A very extensive and well-prepared breakfast buffet.
We enjoyed Groningen and the hotel and will book a room at the Market hotel again on our next visit.

Pleasant hotel in the heart of Groningen. Spacious room, friendly employees.
A few points of interest:
- We would have liked to have heard in advance that apparently it is possible to park more cheaply in the Forum garage through the hotel
- the bathroom looks slick but there are few outlets for toiletries etc.
- the glass door for the separate toilet also means a lit room if one of the two uses the toilet at night - it wakes the other up
- the location in the heart of Groningen means a lot of nightlife noise, so unfortunately you have to keep the windows closed (pity for the buyers of the new apartments next to the hotel...)
- well, that carpet in the hallways ---

The Deluxe Room with Shower had a spacious entrance hall with a glass cupboard where coats and shirts could hang. In addition, drawers for clothes or other items were found and a stone bench under which shoes could be placed. A narrow corridor led to the toilet, bathroom and bedroom. From a small balcony there was a beautiful view over the Grote Markt.
From the hotel reception you have immediate access to Café Willem Albert, where we ate a vegan 3-course menu. The vegetable stew was delicious, but unfortunately the portions were quite small. Dessert, on the other hand, was a decent cup of ice cream with fruit.
An hour later we changed in our room to go to the Wellness, where we were able to use a hammam, sauna and showers privately for an hour. Towels were provided. We only started enjoying the treatments the next day.
The breakfast was also delicious. The kitchen prepared us vegan pancakes, decorated with berries and maple syrup. There was also granola, fruit, bread, hummus and marinated mushrooms.
The staff were helpful and friendly. The Market Hotel was truly a very nice experience. Thank you for this.

Conveniently situated in the heart of Groningen, this hotel boasts a charming bar-restaurant on the ground floor, where they also serve a delightful breakfast. The rooms are modern and equipped with all the essentials for a comfortable stay, and the staff is exceptional. I had a positive experience when I stayed here last year.
This year, I booked two executive rooms for my daughter's graduation. Unfortunately, we were assigned two rooms next to the wall of a nearby building that housed a club in the basement. The noise from the drum and bass was coming through the walls that at certain moments were trembling. My wife used earplugs and managed to get some sleep, but I couldn't. I ended up wandering the streets of Groningen until 5 am when the party finally ended. In the morning, we also encountered an issue with the room's lock; it wouldn't open with the key. It took approximately two hours to resolve, during which time we couldn't relax as technicians came and went. In the afternoon, we were moved to a room on the sixth floor, which was quiet but had poor Wi-Fi and a very low room temperature. My two daughters in room 210 had an uncomfortable stay due to the noise, but they chose not to complain or request another room.
I'm quite certain that the management is aware of the noise issue. Providing us with the two initial rooms amounted to a downgrade, and I believe a minimum expectation would be a formal apology and an acknowledgment of the inconvenience we endured. It would also be fair to offer a reimbursement for the night when we couldn't sleep, as essentially the hotel did not deliver what we had paid for.
I anticipate that the management's response will be along the lines of the usual positive feedback about the location and breakfast, along with apologies for any inconvenience. Formal and indifferent. However, the travel community expects more respect and fairness in such situations.

Hotel itself is beautiful. Well located on the Grote Markt. Breakfast very good. I think the room layout is ill-considered. E.g. toilet with great acoustics. That's what the guests are waiting for... If you turn on the light in the bathroom at night, the person in bed can enjoy it. Hanging wet coats in the glass cupboard... great! It is not possible anywhere else. lots of glass. Will employees be involved? Mattresses and pillows are nice and sweaty. I really don't understand how a hotel chain can design a room so stupidly. Despite the above, we had a good stay.

We stayed here one night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We can say that this was an unforgettable experience. The hotel is really located in the center of Groningen, between all the bars and restaurants. There is so much choice that you don't know where to start. Don't forget to visit the "Drie Gezusters", located opposite the hotel. Here you can enjoy delicious food and drinks in an informal atmosphere. However, for a more extensive dinner, there are many other restaurants within a few hundred meters of the hotel. The bars are open until the beginning of the morning, but even though some are located directly in front of the hotel, you don't hear anything from inside. The hotel also has its own nice bar/restaurant. The room is impeccably clean. Our bed was a double without an annoying crack in the middle. We also had a double duvet and four very large pillows. In addition, slippers, bathrobes, Nespresso machine with cups, tea bags, refrigerator, scales (!). safe, hairdryer, iron and even an ironing board. The bathroom had a separate shower and bath, so you didn't have to stand in the bath to shower. The hotel has a wellness center for all kinds of treatments. My wife's treatment ended after check-out time and it was no problem to use the room a little longer. The breakfast is so extensive that you can skip lunch. A tip is to make sure you are there before 8:30 am (possible from 7:00 am) so that you can enjoy breakfast in peace, after that it quickly gets busier. We have been to many hotels all over the world, but this hotel falls into the "exceptionally good" category.

Arrival at the hotel was promising. Service was friendly - check-in was a bit complicated because you had to enter your data yourself on a tablet. These were already transferred when you booked.
The room on the 4th floor had a view of the Grote Markt. We only just saw the construction site in front of the hotel and were to hear it on Monday morning, despite soundproof windows.
The room was of sufficient size - the lighting for shaving was not ideal, there was no cosmetic mirror for the woman and the separate toilet should have at least a sink - as it was, it was not exactly hygienic.
The cleanliness of the rooms was OK at first glance, in the light of the evening sun shining through the window - the glass of the wardrobe was dirty and dusty.
The minibar was not full - there was only an empty fridge.
The SPA costs €12.50 per hour - for two to three courses - for two people you have to pay at least €50 - that's steep and we weren't aware of it.
A roof terrace was expected, but it has been under construction for years.
Breakfast was served buffet style and was identical on both days and very well laid out. In a 4-star hotel, I don't expect cold fried eggs, some salmon or other types of fish, cheese that isn't dry around the edges and maybe a fruit salad. Used dishes weren't cleared away - neither during the meal nor by guests who had finished.
The carpet in front of the house was very dirty - there was rubbish in the corners and flower boxes - yes, we've looked and found it.
People avoid speaking German 50 km beyond the border - if English doesn't work, they suddenly start speaking German. I have to adapt to another country and can't expect German to be spoken - but in a 4-star hotel that advertises it - yes, I can.
Parking was in the underground car park by the forum - 24 euros per day - tourists aren't really welcome in Groningen - at least not by car. The hotel gave a 2 euro discount for two days.
We expected more from the hotel - 4 stars are probably rated differently in the Netherlands than in the rest of Europe. We are not fussy or demanding - but if I pay over 220 euros per night, I expect a service and a hotel that lives up to that.

The hotel has pros and cons. Among the advantages are the recently renovated rooms and the very central location; Among the defects, the poor functionality of the very modern bathroom seems to me to be the greatest.
The very serious fact is another. I booked directly and repeatedly asked in emails if they had parking or where you could park. The only answer I got was that there were several car parks nearby and that they didn't know there had ever been any problems. Upon arrival I understood why: it doesn't concern them. The hotel cannot be reached by car! Nobody bothered to warn me that the area is forbidden to cars and that reaching the hotel entrance to unload luggage is a sure fine. I discovered it upon arrival when I left the car, after having unfairly cursed the navigator, I walked around the area and finally reached the hotel. Here I was informed, with an indifferent smile, that we would have to make do with our luggage. And luckily it was summer and the sun was shining!!! For many people this will not be a problem, but for a disabled or elderly person, like me, it very much is. And not communicating it clearly is, in my opinion, a very serious mistake.

It was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. From the booking to our departure, their staff and systems continued to surprise. Everything's works, and all contact is relevant and made our stay better.
Their are pre stay check-ins, and I got advice about the parking. (In the neighbouring carpark with a discount voucher from reception) a user-friendly carpark within an easy 100mtr walk across a traffic free square.
We were greeted friendly and efficiently with a simple booking check and explanation of the facilities before going up to our superb room. We liked the kitchenette, the fabulous bath, and the glass wardrobe. The beds were comfortable, the pillows lovely and soft, and the views accros de grote markt from our little balconies finished of the luxurious feel.
The icing on the cake is the gorgeous grand café / coffeeshop. Great for any time of the day, including a large sunny terrace.
We especially loved breakfast with an excellent continental selection complemented with fresh eggs and pancakes. Fresh juices, a fresh tea dispenser, and a vast range of coffees.
Simply a great hotel with outstanding service and facilities.
