This company kept your deposit although we cancelled within the correct period due to Covid. I would advise anyone not to trust this hotel! It was for a charity cycle holiday - dreadful! We have contacted the hotel many times but they are rude and unhelpful

College hotel is housed in an old vintage school building in the centre of Alkmaar. The rooms and new bathrooms are very clean. Good breakfast. After a day exploring Alkmaar with great shopping just steps from the hotel, you will get a good night sleep on the comfortable beds and since the hotel is situated next to a park, very quiet. All great but the best part of College hotel are the employees: Very friendly and super service minded, 5* Superbe service!

We decided to pick another hotel this time in Alkmaar. Previous hotel’s were somewhat of a disappointment. With this, and we’d include places like the local Grand Hotel, the prices increased, the level of service didn’t.... Anyway, this time we chose this hotel. The layout and interior does remind you of the old-style schools of forgotten eras. High ceilings, wooden details & chequered flooring. The rooms are spacious, very spacious actually. The sleeping experience however was very average. Needless to say, this is one of the more important experiences in a hotel. The mattress was simply too soft, not good enough! The breakfast next morning was very simple, not to say ‘below average’! Why is this you ask? Well, compared to hotels in other European cities (Berlin, Vienna etc.) the return you get for what you pay in Alkmaar simply isn’t worth it. There we often paid less, much less actually, and got much more in return. If this is possible elsewhere, why not in Alkmaar? Hopefully matters will change in many of the local establishments. A city like Alkmaar, with many international visitors, truly does deserve much better value-for-money for its hotels!

Good location 5 minutes from Alkmaar Station and within a short walk of the main shopping street. Clean, modern rooms with key facilities that you would expect. Soft beds, which I thought I might struggle with, but actually slept really well. Decent continental breakfast in a pleasant dining area. Hot drinks available throughout the day. No complaints.

I booked an Attic room. It was large and had a skylight and small window. No good views from these but the room was quiet, clean and satisfactory. On a very cold Winter's night I wonder if the 1 radiator would be adequate but in Nov 2019 it was fine for me, had to leave it on all night though. If it rains hard you'll hear it on the skylight and roof, which might upset a light sleeper. The man on duty when I arrived helpfully showed me to my room. The following morning I asked the young lady on duty for a late checkout (1 hour past normal checkout) which was granted, free of charge. I also asked for fresh scrambled eggs and these were cooked for me no problem. The floorboards squeak which was no problem for me but might have been for anyone in the room below. There is no-one on reception after 11pm. You will be given two card keys, and can let yourself in with one of these (one is a spare for if the other stops working). I got in no problem after midnight first time. The hotel is conveniently located between the railway station and the main sights of the town. Alkmaar is a pleasant town, very Dutch and with very few tourists compared to the larger Dutch cities.
