Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
Nestled conveniently close to the Overamstel Metro station, the Leonardo Royal Hotel Amsterdam garners appreciation for its prime location with easy access to the city's heart and the airport. Guests consistently commend the hotel for its impeccable service, friendly and attentive staff, and the overall cleanliness of both rooms and facilities.
The rooms are described as comfortable, clean, and modern, though there's room for improvement in maintenance and air conditioning. While the hotel's atmosphere and amenities receive positive remarks, including a good breakfast and relaxing vibe, some guests feel that the evening dining and parking fees detract from the overall value.

Detailed Reviews
This hotel is located about 10 minutes by subway to the main Amsterdam train station. The subway or metro stop is located across the street from the entrance to this hotel. Super convenient. The breakfast is fabulous with too many options to list, needless to say there is everything from cold/hot cereals to a omelette station, fresh cut up fruit, cheeses and outstanding breads.
The staff was extremely helpful when I arrived from the States (read tired) and left my backpack on the train line. The staff contacted both the train and subway lost and found offices by filling out forms for me.
Within 2 hours I had a positive response and was directed by the hotel on how to go to Utrecht. The front desk could not have been more helpful.

We booked the trip through Gate 1 travel and this is the hotel choice that we were given, and they did not disappoint with this property. If we would have really done our home work on this we would have been able to take the train directly from the airport to the hotel and saved about 45.00 on a cab ride. The check in was a breeze, they let us check in about 3 hours early, which after the 9 hour plane ride was nice. The rooms are appointed nicely and the bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was nice and spacious, I guess the only thing I could say that would make the room better was the pressure from the shower head could have been better, that seems a bit trivial but that's the only thing about the room that could be better. The breakfast buffet every morning was exceptional, great selection and great service from the staff. We enjoyed drinks in the hotel bar every night and the service was awesome, get the seats by the fireplace if you can, they were nice. The Overamstel train station is literally outside the front door of the hotel. You can get any where in Amsterdam from here, it was great. When you leave to go to the airport take the Overamstel train to Zuid station and then buy a ticket on the other railway to the airport it cost 4 Euros one way to the airport. If you are heading to Amsterdam definitely think about staying at this property. We are glad we did!

+1
The Leonardo Royal hotel is a relatively plush hotel for an attractive rate in a relatively desolate environment. However well positioned directly at the Overamstel Subway station, hence just 15 minutes or less from the City Centre. Rooms comfortable but quite small. Avoid the side of the subway station since there is train noise in the room ... better ask for a room on the city side upon booking. The hotel has a nice but fairly expensive bar, an enormous and nicely decorated restaurant and a pleasant spa with Sauna, steam bath, relax room and gym. There is a good parking garage at a fee of 23 euros per day in the same complex, but no indoor connection between the hotel lobby and the garage.

Hotel was great for the price you pay. The rooms are tiny (barely enough room to open a suitcase) and although situated conveniently next to a metro station is in the middle of nowhere but again, you get what you pay for and the lobby, gym and communal areas are well designed and well kept. If you don’t mind a 15/20min Metro travel to Amsterdam Centraal you wouldn’t mind it here
I give the hotel 2 stars because I accidentally left my Apple Airpod headphones in the lobby area the day I checked out to visit another hotel in Amsterdam, although when I called Hotel Leonardo that same night to ask them if they’d been handed in I was told they hadn’t. I travelled down to the hotel the next morning to be told the same thing, that there were no headphones that had been handed in but they asked for my name and previous room number so they could contact me should they turn up. Luckily I was able to make my lost AirPods make a sound (findmyiphone feature you can activate when you lose a device) and I could hear them beeping behind the front desk so I told the receptionist that I knew they were behind the desk and she eventually handed them over. I firmly believe the hotel staff were trying to keep my misplaced AirPods headphones and if I had not been able to make the sound from the Airpods they would have pocketed them

Dear Acleaplummer, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We respect your beliefs, but this is not the way we treat our guests. We live up to our standards. There is a procedure to be followed that ends after the registration of the item. There are several different scenarios that could have happened. A possible example is where the item could have been brought to the reception 10 minutes before you checked with the receptionist and delivered to a different person than the one you spoke to. This is just one scenario. We look after our guest's needs and interests to make them feel safe and at home. It is unfortunate that you came to this conclusion. We hope to see you soon, Sincerely, Team Leonardo

Booked this hotel for 3 adults sharing 1 room for 2 nights. On arrival the person at check in could see 3 adults and still gave us a room ready for 2. As we were on our way out for the day we asked at reception for towels and begging to be put into the room for the sofa bed which we were told that’s not a problem. Arrived back around 7 hours later to find the room in the same state as check in, so again went down to ask, we were told again they would be sent up. Another hour and a half later a 3rd trip was made, 2 workers were sent to ask what we needed so we told them again, towels and bedding for 1 person, they brought back towels and soap, so we asked for a 4th time for bedding. When it finally arrived I was given a duvet and 1 pillow with a sheet, duvet cover and pillow case to do it myself. After paying nearly £500 for this stay, and them having such good ratings I wasn’t expecting to have to diy the bedding or the bedroom. I’ve had better experiences in budget ibis hotels than here and won’t return to this chain because if I’m paying £500 for a hotel I do not expect to have to ask 4 times for bedding and then have to do it all myself.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. Everything was great, service, decor, accommodation, breakfast, tram connections. Pedro at reception was so helpful and smiley👍. Reception were very helpful and apologetic when the carpet in the bedroom got wet from the shower. Check the bar prices, we ordered three drinks and then had to pay €55!!!!! Everywhere is relaxing and spacious. Not keen on dogs in the restaurant and sitting on the chairs... keep them in a separate area, people have acute allergies to dog hair🤨

Average because of customer service. Our check in was quite quick but not very professional. The lady at reception did not point out where the lifts were, where breakfast was served or where the bar area was which I think is a basic requirement of a receptionist, knowing so as I am one! Thank you for the lovely touch in the room to mark our honeymoon, we appreciated that. The room was great, warm, very comfy and clean and great views on 16th floor which we enjoyed a lot. What we did not enjoy was dinner. Our server whose name I didn't get (elderly foreign lady) seemed confused, firstly moving tables and chairs in front of us, then nearly sitting us down at a table which said 'reserved' on it, and only then proceeded to ask if we had a reservation and then said oh, I think this one is reserved? Well, yes, it says reserved? Surely that's the first step which a server makes, to ask and then move tables and people around. Food menu quite limited, the 3 course set menu had only 1 option for each course which is unusual for me. Starter was okay but we waited approx 25 minutes for it, didn't get offered water or a refill when finished. The main course was poor. I didn't get asked how I would like the meat cooked so it came medium. I asked for it to be made well done, 25 minutes later it came back, flattened out so it would be cooked quicker! Sadly a cut into the meat revealed pinkish colour and undercooked again. It was such a simple piece of meat that I'm unsure how you can not properly cook it, especially well done. We were quite annoyed about the general slow service and the waitress' lack of attention to us as customers. We decided to leave the dinner be, I was really unimpressed, we got offered a comp drink which we declined because it does not fix an empty stomach. The lady had an attitude of 'well, we offered you a solution which you didn't take so how bad' which I really didn't appreciate, definitely not in a 4 star property. Breakfast in the morning was great, excellent choice, probably the best thing about the stay along with its excellent location a few metres away from the metro to airport/city centre. Check out was quick, the lady did not ask if we enjoyed our stay, probably didn't want to hear about our dinner so I wasn't bothered explaining to someone who seemed incompetent. I questioned why my card was charged 417 instead of 360 something, was told they take a 17 hold, a pre-auth. Well, please tell the guests this upon check in so they know and understand their credit card bill later. A basic step that receptionists should really know and do. Quite poor experience with customer service here, probably the worst I've seen throughout my travels which is disappointing considering the beautiful hotel. Good the spa is open 24/7 with key card access. Breakfast and rooms excellent, food and customer service poor.

Hi Klaudi, I appreciate that you did you, as one of our fellow hoteliers, have shared your invaluable perspective. As you can image, I had hoped you would have had a better experience. So, thank you for sharing your experience; if you hadn’t, we could not improve. The hotel looks nice but that’s it. Service is AWFUL, room telephone doeant work, if you call to reception they never pick up the call, but the worst is the cleaniness, when we arrived the fridge had left overs of the previous guests, if you ask to have the room cleaned they barely put your cever blanket blanket in place and that’s it, not even touching the sheets, no/poor bathroom cleaning, and aince it has a carpet you have constantly the cigarettes smell. It is a shame as the facilities look good and the breakfast is good as well. Andres , the italian guy from the reception desk was vary helpful in all fairness.

We spent 3 nights at this hotel, hotel is very nice, close to the centre. We were thinking at first get a hotel in the centre but we were glad we choose Leonardo instead. As it’s only 10-15 mins by metro from the centre and it would of been too load or busy at the centre. Nice room, gym and sauna, nice breakfast with good options.
We stayed on 18th floor and the view was amazing from over there.
However I personally didn’t really like glass bathroom doors in the room, not too much privacy-but it’s not a bid deal. And maybe better cleaning would be good.
Also I got Leonardo membership so I could get 10%off from hotel and food, but when we were paying the lady at the reception said 10% off doesn’t include breakfast which was strange as it says food and drinks? That is why minus 1 star for this.
But in general I would go back as it was perfect location and nice rooms, very comfy beds and pillows
We loved Amsterdam so if we come back we will stay at Leonardo again.

It’s clean and the bar area and rooms are generally good quality - but absolutely never enough staff on the bar. Room service is non existent ‘we are very busy’ meant no breakfast and therefore nothing to eat until lunchtime
Function food of chicken was truly dreadful but redeemed by really good Asian fusion the following evening.
There are much better business hotels in Amsterdam, in much better locations
