After a long flight the warm greeting by name as you walk into the hotel sets the tone for another stay. The short walk from Centraaal Station is pleasant and helps adjust to the time. The butler service included with the junior suite is a welcome help. Arriving at 0700 is was pleasantly surprised that my room was ready. As...

I had a chance to stay in sofitel with my brother and my niece for one night. It is very expensive hotel but their service is excellent. We were warmly welcomed with complementary drinks. Rooms were very clean. If you have the budget and coming to Amsterdam, I highly recommend sofitel.

The Grand Hotel is located right in the middle of Amsterdam, in a building steeped in history, as it used to be Amsterdam's City Hall. Upon arrival to the hotel, we were instantly impressed with the building, as we wandered through the majestic courtyard. The receptionist was very friendly, and the treatment I got as an Accor platinum member was...

Just had breakfast in this amazing building. This is very special, ancient style but inside very modern and closer to a five star than a 4 star Hotel. However, the breakfast was so unbelievable good, the service incredible attentive and friendly, WOW. This is what makes the difference between a good and a TOP Hotel: people working for the structure....

Wonderful hotel centrally located. Staff were very nice and helpful. Our room was clean and overlooked the canal. Walking distance to several attractions and the bus line. It can get a bit noisy since it is near some coffee shops and walking distance to the red light district but it is an elegant hotel.

Stayed here for 2 nights and, wow! I've been to Amsterdam quite a few times before, but never stayed anywhere like this. For a start, as soon as you walk into the place, the smell of all the cut flowers is quite incredible. Staff were fantastic, room was so unbelievably comfortable and the breakfast was like no breakfast I've ever...

Very bad hotel! It is not a 5 star at all. Decoration is awful, very noisy rooms (we weren't able to sleep), things don not work properly and it's very dirty. Breakfast is not for waht you pay. The staff is not nice at all. You pay so much for a very low class hotel.

Three of us stayed here the week before Christmas as we were in Amsterdam doing some Christmas Shopping. We have stayed in Amsterdam on numerous occasions before but never stayed in this hotel. But we are so glad we did. From the minute you drive into the courtyard you are made to feel special. I have never seen so many...

We loved the hotel and it's location. There were only a few small things lacking or I would have given 5 stars. At check in we were really not told anything about the hotel or its amenities. We didn't know about the restaurant or bar or spa. We were not offered help to find good restaurants, etc. Everyone was very...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
