Gorgeous property on a main canal. Excellent bar, and restaurants. Some of the best food we had. Large rooms with view of canal. We used Uber 6-8 times as it's quite a walk to most areas to visit. Amsterdam reminds me of London-hard for cars to get around. Not too bad usually a $10 ride anywhere but we usually walk.

Dear guest, Thank you very much for your lovely review on Tripadvisor. I am glad to read that you loved everything, in particular the food in our restaurants. The hotel is located in the financial and cultural centre but just out of the everyday day bustle of the city. The closest metro station is within walking distance, 200 metres, and...

Located on the edge of Amsterdam City the intercontinental was absolutely amazing, you will pay a little more for accommodation but it is well justified and we'll worth it.Professional service from the moment you reach the front door, you will not go hungry with a luxurious breakfast overlooking the canal. Nothing negative to say about this hotel, everything was perfect....

A beautiful hotel with first rate treatment by the staff. On the Amstel River with beautiful views from the bars and restaurants and some rooms. The rooms were old charm with modern amenities. The concierge desk went out of their way to help in any way.

We stayed one night at the InterContinental Amstel Amsterdam in advance of our riverboat cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest. We had an excellent experience all the way around! The room, the staff, the riverside dining, the bar, etc -- all excellent! In particular, the concierge was great re suggesting things to do during our short stay (e.g., he secured tickets...

Located on the intersection of the Amstel river and several canel junctions this hotel has a certain feel that it has withstood time. The operating brand might have changed over the years but the hotel has a magnificent setting and has a minimal cookie cutter feel for an IHG intercontinental hotel. Rooms wonderful Dutch decor with comfy furnishing. Drawback. I...

Spent a week at the Intercontinental Amstel in a 2 story Penthouse Suite after being upgraded because of my Ambassador Status. If you look at a picture of the hotel it is basically the river facing, top level suite right in the middle of the building between the 2 domes. This is a 5 star hotel, located in an out of the way spot. Not a quick walk to the center of things, but the Tram system is half a block away, and the hotel sells tickets. Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
