Lovely Sri making a fuss of my husband on his birthday. The staff brought doughnuts, a candle, and sang happy birthday along with the rest of the people eating breakfast!

Nestled in the heart of Amsterdam, NH City Centre Amsterdam offers guests a peaceful retreat praised for its quietness, especially in rooms not facing the street. While the hotel charms with its modern decor and spotless environment, some guests feel the small, sometimes stuffy rooms do not justify the high price tag. The hotel's central location is a hit, providing easy access to nearby attractions and public transport. Service at NH City Centre Amsterdam is consistently lauded, with staff members receiving accolades for their attention to detail and helpfulness.

The location is kind of midway between the Central Station and the museum district with very good tram connections. If this is your first time in Amsterdam, it's probably worth paying a little extra for a room with a beautiful canal view. Our room looking onto the central courtyard was small but well-appointed. The hotel staff were very friendly, especially a woman named Sri in the breakfast room who remembered what we liked to drink every morning and brought it to our table. There are quite a few steps at the hotel entrances, but there is an elevator entrance on the side of the building if you need it. We would definitely stay here again.

I really really loved the room I was given on the basement level floor as the windows looked out on the patio area and there was a lot of natural light. It definitely looks like the basement level floor rooms have been newly refurbished and decorated as it looks very different to rooms on other floors. I stayed for 2 weeks on a work trip and I have to say my colleagues didn't get as lucky with their rooms (carpeted/old school floor with very little natural light and not very spacious). I have no faults with the room, amenities were great, cleanliness of room was great and space was great.

The breakfast was good, I'd say it's a little more advanced than a standard continental as lots of choice (pancakes, sausages, eggs, bacon, etc). Also liked the breakfast room as quite spacious and easy to find a spot when dining alone.

Finally, the hotel is in a really good location - I would definitely recommend staying here just for the fact it is walking distance from the city centre.

Stayed for 2 nights and this is definitely a hotel that checks off all requirements for those looking for a comfortable stay in the city centre where value meets price.

Amenities were all good and the hotel's location is perfectly situated to the rest of the popular spots and also has a lovely bakery right beside it (for those opting for an alternate breakfast option).

The only downside I felt was that the lifts are quite slow and can stir up quite a wait during morning peak hours (10 to 11am). But that shouldnt be much of a problem considering one can take the stairs a few floors up/down.

An advise to first timers to Netherlands would perhaps be to inform that the water in the room is drinkable hence no free bottled water is provided.

NH city center Amsterdam is by far the most central hotel in Amsterdam compared to all the sights. I visit this hotel regularly and they take my favorite room into account if possible and I am always recognized by the front office staff who give me a warm welcome upon check-in. During breakfast, there are a lot of choices and a fried egg of your choice can be ordered from the open kitchen. Now during the corona period, the breakfast places in the restaurant are carefully and passionately assigned by Sri who puts a smile on the faces of all guests. Definitely recommend this hotel.

We are regular users of NH Hotels but this was our first time at this Amsterdam location(we have used severalof their others). The hotel is very well placed for the Nine Streets, the public areas are lovely but being this near the centre of town means smaller rooms, albeit with terrific canal views (if you choose a room with a view). Overall, the service was excellent and attentitive to what we needed to make our stay great. So a good hotel, but if you want a large(ish) room then you might need to try one of NH's less central locations.

This hotel is excellently positioned for a visit to Amsterdam. Close to the art museums, restaurants, high end shops and lovely park. Just a 10 minute tram ride from the station.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially at breakfast when understaffed and dealing professionally with some demanding fellow guests.

If you can, get a room with a view, looking out over the hustle and bustle of the city, plus you will see the sun rise for early birds. The standard rooms just look at the back of the hotel.

The rooms are very quiet, you don’t hear any other guests. Bathrooms modern and everything worked well.

Breakfast was good, usual wide range of everything you could expect. My 5 courses set me up for the day!

Take an early morning walk or run in the park and enjoy the peace and quiet. Bikes can be hired just round the corner if you want to go native but for the fitter visitor you can walk to most of the tourist areas of the city.

Would happily stay here again next time we in Amsterdam.

Location good and general hotel environment is very pleasant, light and airy
Estella on reception was super quick and efficient in finding us a nice pizza restaurant which had tables despite the crowds on Kings Day

Disliked · Room nothing like the pictures on booking.com. Ours was cramped and badly designed. Bedside table on one side only, we use the upturned waste bin for the other.
Bedside lights not controlled separately, so when my husband wanted to read and I didn't we put a tea cup over the one on my side
Full length mirror is on the inside of the wardrobe door, which does not open fully so the only way to use the mirror would be to stand inside the wardrobe.
We arrived on Kings Day and a full blown street party was underway across the city. The hotel had sent a limp warning 2 days before of road closures and limited public transport, recommending we use a taxi to get there but the taxi was unable to get through and even on foot we had to fight our way through the crowds. Although all was very good natured, I think the hotel should have been more explicit and much earlier about the possible disruption. Anyone with mobility issues would have been unable to reach the hotel at all. We we we unable to get to the restaurant we had booked
For an expensive and supposedly 4 star hotel I would regard all the above shortcomings as unacceptable.

The hotel has nice interior and has a snack shop to buy from instead of getting scammed by locals for higher priced items in corner shops. The gym was decent sized with good weight selection. Everyone spoke English and a employee knocks on the door to check if everything is okay with your room, if it's been cleaned and if you need any thing else.
You should stay at this hotel if you want to be right next to the city everything was within walking distance like the main shopping strip and there is a weed coffee shop 1 minute away. The bed and breakfast was good has a range of cereal, to omelette stand and other foods. I recieved such good service from the front of house worker Sri, I'd definitely book again just to see her, she's so sweet, I went with a group of 5 and we went to club air the night before, she could see we was all hungover gave us a banana and made us green tea to “fill the stomach”, she gave me a sense of home.
The kitchen staff were multicultural which I liked as I could talk to them about there experience in Amsterdam and where they originally came from. I would definitely book again

Having paid for a superior room with breakfast had to pay for upgrade to get a room of adequate size. Apparently superior rooms are smaller than standard. That makes a dressing gown and a shot of shampoo an expensive trick. Had breakfast 1st day and didnt bother after that, not good at all.

Dear David, thank you for your review on Tripadvisor. I am sorry to read that you were not satisfied with your initial room. All superior rooms facing the canal are approx 20m2. Normally if you would have been upgraded, then it would have been into a superior XL room. We would not charge you anything extra if you choose to downgrade into a standard room. Unfortunately I don't have any reservation details, so I am not quite sure what exactly happened during your stay. It would be very helpful if you could sent us an email directly including your reservation number so that we can discuss this in private. Thank you in advance. Best regards, M. Callender

This is our second stay at the hotel. This is a great family hotel because of the three twin beds and excellent breakfast. Our first stay was perfect. We had a few issues during this stay, the room wasn’t ready until after 4. Which was fine, we just enjoyed a museum while waiting. Once in the room there was some red substance all over the light switch, my husband cleaned it, against my recommendation. We took showers, there was not shower gel and the hair dryer cut out and stopped working. The hotel gave us mini body wash and fixed the issues with the hair dryer the following day.
You can’t beat the location and for a hotel in the city center it stays fairly quiet, we had some loud neighbors but the hotel can’t control that.
We will likely stay here again, during our next visit. I would recommend this if you’re traveling with family.
