This hotel is simply stunning. I brought my girlfriend here to propose and it certainly didn't disappoint (she said yes!). The room we had, with in-built Jacuzzi was unbelievable and perfect as a special location to pop the question. It had a magnificent interior with a unique style.
The bar, which doubles up as the breakfast room downstairs is glorious, featuring many original internal features from when the building was turned into a hotel 400 years ago, including the original painting on the ceiling. The modern furnishings have clearly been thought about to fit in with the classical design. The bar prices are not as expensive as you'd expect looking in at the interior and service is excellent. We ate breakfast at the hotel on three occasions and it is a really nice continental buffet featuring traditional local produce, along with the option to order whatever items you'd like from a 'Full English' selection to be made fresh from the kitchen.
The staff are as friendly and helpful as I've experienced anywhere in the world. A special mention for Gurt on the bar, whose hospitality is as fantastic as his knowledge of Amsterdam. The staff are happy to direct you to tourist attractions and can book tickets for you, as well as recommend the best restaurants (there are loads within walking distance).
The location is very central in the best parts of the city to visit, and right around the corner from Anne Frank House, as well as within a 25 minute walk of the Red Light District, 30 minutes to the Museum district, and 15 minutes from the major shopping areas around the Palace of Amsterdam. Taxi prices are reasonable for those who do not want to walk all the time.
I've stayed in some really nice hotels, particularly in the USA, but I'd honestly rank this as the best I've stayed in anywhere around the world. Stay here, you won't regret it!! Thank you to everyone at The Toren from Martin and Emma, and we will be back soon!

Thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality of The Toren, Amsterdam. Rooms were very well furnished to a high standard, comfortable, overlooked the Keizersgracht canal and yet incredibly quiet. Loved the relaxed style to breakfast in the bar area - much more personal than main steam hotels. Staff very attentive, friendly and accommodating. Great location for getting easily and quickly to the sights of Amsterdam.
Would definitely return to the Toren.

We arrived early about 11am and had a very friendly welcome by the receptionist. She (sorry I've forgotten her name) informed us that are room was ready which was a lovely surprise. First impression of our surroundings was glamorous and opulent. We had a superior deluxe canal view spa room and it was lovely. We had a surprise of a bottle of bubbly and snacks which we enjoyed very much. The room was spacious with a great view of the canal, could be a little noisy in the night because of the building being old but living in an old house ourselves it wasn't much of a problem. The buildings are so beautiful, steeped in history. Breakfast was really good with continental and cooked English and fresh orange juice. Waiters were fantastic, I think the best ones we have ever had in all the hotels we have stayed in. When we checked out there was a slight misunderstanding on the bill but they sorted it out in my favour which made our minds up that it was one of the best hotels we have stayed in. There were a few hotels I was going to choose in the same price bracket but so pleased I picked The Toren, the area and everything about it was perfect.

The look and feel of this hotel are quite decadent, dark velvet textures and different tones of lighting with a romantic feel. In my view, the hotel is targeting mainly couples, or adults in general.
All the staff kind, attentive and knowledgeable, making each guest feel welcomed. The bar is cosy, relaxing. Breakfast is served in the same area, with sufficient choices, and very tasty.
Now the room - excellent executive suite. Do not go with the usual understanding of ‘executive’, this still has the decadent / romantic vibe, with a large jetted tub next to the bedroom, a double shower (which is also a steam room), living area, and most comfortable bed. We had a suite in the garden area, which was perfect for a coffee outside each morning. Very quiet and private room - well worth it.
When I return to Amsterdam, I will definitely considering staying at the Toren again

I changed my original hotel booking to the Toren mainly because it was a more central location as well as being a boutique hotel which I usually prefer. I am glad I made the change.
I walked from the train central station to the hotel which only took just over 15 minutes. Check in was efficient and staff were friendly and took me to my room, while reviewing their services. There was a handwritten welcome note in the room which was a nice touch.
I was in room 115 on the 1st floor, one floor up from the main. it's was small, but cozy and comfortable, with a very good size bathroom. The bed and sheets were very soft. There was bottle water, small fridge with couple complimentary pops and coffee/tea maker.
The morning breakfast was included and cooked to order with very attentive service. Good selection and easy to order exactly what you want.
I stayed 3 nights and the location proved to be ideal, quiet street close to most attractions (although everything in Amsterdam is close).
My only minor issue was the slow speed of there internet service, it was barely 2 Mbps, which is okay for basic email, and some browsing, but not good for videos or streaming. I don't expect super fast speed, but in 2023 it was considerably slower than most hotels I have stayed at. Other than that i was an very good experience and I would recommend the hotel to anyone.

We chose the hotel because of its Central location on net. But it was even more beautiful than the photos. The day person carried our bags without being asked and was thrilled to see our surprise to find Champagne on ice in a beautifully polished antique ice bucket waiting for us. It was my husband s 70th birthday. We were served a hot breakfast to order in an elegant salon- with a view on the canal. Of ocurse eveyone was welcoming and the bartender an expert on Amsterdam’s history.

My husband and I chose to stay at the Toren based on our trip advisor review and availability. We were absolutely overwhelmed by the hospitality of the staff. This is absolutely an exceptional hotel that provides a level of attention and care that is beyond what we have experienced in many other countries and areas of the world .
The staff’s attention to detail , and assistance with every part of our stay in Amsterdam and beyond was appreciated and on point . At the front desk, Linda , Vladi and David were every ready to help with local plans and regional tours .
Evangelos manages the gorgeous parlour and bar with personal attention and a warm embrace. Zita checks in on drinks and food preferences with a smile
Alex ( chef) creates delicious meal options that are beautifully prepared and presented
The hotel management is obviously outstanding and conveys the perfect message for hospitality and a cohesive team …
The location of this property as well as its beauty and historical relevance were also a tremendous part of our enjoyable stay. We were never more than a “ short walk away “. No Uber needed.
The personal connections with the team here are what made this experience very special and memorable.
We will come back and look forward to catching up with “ old friends”
Well done

I absolutely loved everything that this hotel stands for. From the outside its a beautiful old building like any you would expect to see in the old parts of amsterdam. Once you step inside is when the real charm shows.
The wacky, out there interior is stunning as crazy as it it everything just works perfectly. I wish i could go this crazy with the decoration at home!
the reception were lovely and always said hello and goodbye. Nothing was too much trouble our room was the dulux double so standard room i think. Yet it was nothing from standard! again the crazy designs and colours made the room really stand out and be different from any other hotel i have ever stayed in!
the bed was comfortable. Our bathroom was amazing with a big corner jacuzzi bath. ( great for soaking in after a long day of walking about)
The breakfast was delicious and everything you needed to start off the day! there was a wide selection of drinks and the bar man was very friendly.
would 100% return if were back in amsterdam. The location was great and not further than a 15 min walk to everything you needed.

We recently returned to The Toren for a short Amsterdam city trip.
Being closely located to shops, restaurants and historical sites, the location of the hotel is fantastic for roaming around the city.
All employees of the property that we encountered or interacted with during our stay were incredibly welcoming and kind.
The rooms radiate opulence and came with some refining touches which sets The Toren apart from other city hotels:
Upon arrival, we encountered a personalized welcome card along with a jar of nuts, the bathroom was equipped with a quality brand hair dryer and comfy house slippers, the mini bar was stocked with four soft drinks that were included in the room rate.
While the hotel exactly delivers on what it promises, I would also like to highlight some areas of improvement:
During our previous travels, the bar soap in the room was from the upscale line Maison Margiela. Nowadays, all bathroom amenities are provided by The Spa Collection which feels like a small downgrade on the amenities-front.
During irregular intervals, the night rest was interrupted by either the AC unit (although turned off) or the heating unit (we were unable to detect the origin of the sounds) readjusting itself with some bubbling sounds.
In short and with all the above taken into consideration, The Toren is a safe choice for a 4*- quality accommodation for your travels to Amsterdam.

The hotel looks nice, but not outstanding from outside. Once in though, it was a different story. The decor is opulent, without being over the top. Everything was clean, worked and good value for money. The best thing though, was the team there. The front of house team never stopped smiling, Gert, a barman was lovely and even the cleaners, who spoke little English, were polite, professional and smiley. We'll definitely be back!

No elevator.
Unfortunately we have to inform you that we do no longer allow smoking in our hotel rooms.
The Toren Hotel rooms are designed differently from other hotels, allowing for a real boutique atmosphere and guests will be sure of a truly unique experience in this special canal house property. We make use of a lot of fabrics in our design and we have noticed that the smoke drains into these fabrics. We have experienced that our rooms were not able to be cleaned entirely, which should result in a smoke free room for other guests.
However we do offer an alternative in our lovely garden, where you are allowed to smoke. Next to the above we would like to take to opportunity to inform you that smoking cannabis is not allowed in the entire premises of our hotel (as regulated by Dutch law, this is only allowed in designated coffeeshops).
We trust to have informed you sufficiently but please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions
Best regards
ANnemieke
Dear Meggie,
Warm greetings from Amsterdam and thank you for your message. Our Special Deluxe Rooms with canal views have an open bathroom indeed, as our previous guest mentioned, and is indeed up a step. The toilet facility is behind closed doors, and the bathroom area is also surrounded by curtains all around.
We are looking forward to welcoming you in the near future!
