Super hotel, amazing room, great location. Friendly staff and a well stocked bar! Great exhibits and a cool clientele. The rooms are decent sizes and super clean too. Hints of the Hard Rock permeate throughout.

I'm from Amsterdam and the Amerikan Hotel was always the grandest and luxurious hotel in town. Now its been bough over and its just cheap holiday inn with celebrity suits and instruments to hide the decay of the place. Upon entering the place smelled my cheap booze and regret. The staff is nice, but I feel for them in their ill fitted bellhop costums. check in went smooth enough, but my room was a twin while I asked for a double. Neither front desk or costumer service was willing to help and was very condesending to me. Breakfast was terrible. Its like they looked at a cheap motel and thought "lets do this breakfast". Also I had to order my coffee 3 times and it took 25min (it was a black americano so not rocket science). Again, I'm from Amsterdam so I was under no illusion how busy and messy Leidensquare is, so I won't hold that against the hotel, but its probably good to know. Anyway, I hope I disuaded you from coming, I really wish someone had done this for me. …

Great hotel centrally located. Good food in the Cafe Americain. The only thing we would suggest people be aware of is that if you book a private transfer (€85) and you get delayed at passport control (like we did for 90 minutes) you get charged an additional €20 for every half hour you are delayed even though it is not your fault. Schiphol airport has lots of delays - not impressed and would consider using the Eurostar in future)

Comfy bed, well decorated. They surprised us with bits for my boyfriends 21st birthday including cake and written notes. Bar downstairs was good but small spaced, not the best music and didn't have any 'American type' drinks as they are an American Hotel. Clubs were around.

The Hotel is a fine old building in a great location. Plenty to do on the doorstep. However…… Room was not ready for check in until 16:30, this is a real pain if you have just arrived from a 16 hour journey and want to freshen up. It is unprofessional and no compensation given in way of a coffee, a snack or reduction on the bill. The whole hotel including room reeked of cigarette smoke. My wife is Athematic and found this the worst problem with the hotel and reason not to return The Beds were terrible, they were twin beds suitable only for a small child, they had been given a topper mattress a little larger to fit on top of original mattress but as this was only 6cm thick it just folded over and falling out of bed a real risk, additionally walking past the bed required squeezing past the wall mounted television, the space so small that I twice hit my arm snd even now have a bruise. All in all very unsatisisfying and evidence of poor management…

Just got back from a brilliant 4 nights at the hard rock American Amsterdam. The room was amazing, and hotel unbelievable. We had a balcony over looking the canal below, it was lovely to sit out on a night after exploring the city all day, with a beer and people watch. We will be back!

This trip was a gift for my husbands birthday. We went with a canal view superior double room. The room was immaculate, the staff can't do enough for you and the breakfast did not disappoint, plenty to set you up for a busy day of touristy stuff. Noise from surrounding areas and rooms was minimal. We would definitely visit this hotel again if we ever went back to Amsterdam.

Absolutely great location, easy walk or bike ride to everything central. The staff were all so friendly and helpful which made it even more pleasant. Breakfast was fantastic too, worth every penny as a good selection.

We had a fabulous time at this lovely hotel It is very large and in a great location lots of good vibes live music at night out on the patio , we highly recommend this place and can’t wait to come back the next time we come to Amsterdam. It might be a little dated, but it’s got great shops. Great restaurants.
