Quaint hotel right in the center of things - very clean! Very friendly!! Right on the tram line and easy walking distance to the Amsterdam Central Station. Only minutes from all the sights. Rooms are clean, well appointed and offer power outlets suitable to US, UK and EU power cords.

We stumbled across this wonderful restaurant on the first of our two nights in Amsterdam and chose it for dinner. The food was simply amazing and the staff wonderfully hospitable throughout the evening. After having such an enjoyable evening we opted to return for dinner on our second night in Amsterdam and we were glad we did. Again, the food...

Visited this 105 year old restaurant which is within an equally old but well maintained and relatively grand hotel called Hotel Amsterdam. We were drawn to it by the menu on display in the window while walking by. It was attracting possible diners to try their special dish i.e. A Bucket of Mussels. Apparently, these are similar to the lovely,...

Thank you for your kind review. We have shared your comments with our colleagues, much appreciated. Always lovely to read that the mussels were delicious, one of our favorite dishes and up on the menu as soon as the season is right! We hope to welcome you back on your next visit. Kind regards, R. Stayed here in December with my girlfriend for my birthday. We picked it due to its great location and definitely would recommend it as it is so central. When we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly female who took our details and gave us our room details. The member of staff asked us what our stay was for...

I stayed here during a tech conference held just down the street. The hotel is modern and well maintained, the staff is friendly and helpful, it's a ten minute walk to the main train station, and the price is reasonable. The rooms are on the small side but they are well laid out and I had no concerns given I...

Had an excellent two night stay here. Very quiet despite being in the heart of Amsterdam. Standard room was an adequate size with good sized shower. Staff were always friendly and helpful. Would stay here again.

We stayed 5 days in September. We got an immediate check in luckily earlier than usual check in. Staff were very courteous and welcoming, even when we wondered in at 4am, then wondering in and out to nearby food outlets. The room, is a little small but fine for a short stay. Nice modern decor and large windows ( with...

We spent 3 nights at this hotel for business. Apart from the very thin walls, I can't fault this hotel for anything: it's located a stone's throw away from University of Amsterdam, right by Dam Square, so getting to the station takes less than ten minutes (provided no pedestrian traffic). The only minus point here was that the bed was...

This hotel has been great at hospitality for a long time and it shows. From Reception to waiting staff everything is as you would wish. Now as with many European cities rooms can be smaller than expected. Online booking engines give you standard accommodation at a good rate but for a more spacious room and bed maybe book directly. Breakfast...

Neighbourhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Great central location, affordable rates, clean & comfortable rooms and friendly & attentive hospitality. In an amazing location, just off Dam Square and right in the middle of Amsterdam's city center, you'll find Hotel Amsterdam De Roode Leeuw. This is where you want to stay if you're coming to Amsterdam. Sure, you can find fancier 4 star hotels in Amsterdam, but what we may lack in glitz we more than make up for in authentic friendliness and true hospitality. All of our bathrooms are all new, and our rooms are comfortable, well maintained, and always spotlessly clean. ... more   less
