We find ourselves forced to react to your (multiple) reviews online claiming theft, as this unfortunately does not paint a full picture in our opinion. To file a police report on theft, you have to visit the police station, they cannot be called to location. This was explained to you, with a referral to the nearest station. As also explained,... We visited Amsterdam on a city break last weekend for my Niece's birthday, we stayed at the hotel and found the location service and staff to be excellent. The hotel itself is ideally located to see and to tour the city (and the shops!). We had lunch and dinner at the hotel on a few of the days and the... More

I stayed here in November 2015 and booked it again. The hotel is very well situated and the staff really go out of their way for you. Yes, it's right on the Dam, but at the tail end and if you just walk right when you get out of the hotel, you avoid most of the "craziness of the Dam".... More

Thank you for a great review. I will make sure both colleagues are informed about your compliments to them! We are happy to learn that you have enjoyed our breakfast buffet, which will be upgraded further after upcoming renovations next year. We would love to welcome you back in our hotel on your next stay in Amsterdam, as always. Kind... More

Best hotel we have stayed in. Very central for those who are commuting around Amsterdam. The rooms were lovely and clean. The staff were extremely helpful all the time. We had breakfast everyday which was really nice and you had loads to choose from.

Stayed for 3 nights, romantic getaway. Good: Excellent location, with a tram stop right outside. Pretty good if you're new in Amsterdam. Pretty stylish hotel. Good TV channels too and a safe in the room, wifi is very good. Bad: Paid extra for the superior king bed, got two single beds pushed together, separate sheets and everything!! We were really... Thank you for your review. We have looked into your complaints and would like to provide some clarification. Because on our side, your booking was always for a standard double room. Everything received and confirmed never mentioned a superior room. Unfortunately, you did not raise any of this during your stay with us, or we could have discussed this in... More

We were so disappointed to miss out on a bargain last minute holiday to Venice that we very nearly gave up, so we looked again and discovered this very competitive August Amsterdam offering as a package holiday by that well know Yorkshire Airline based at Leeds Bradford Airport. We were appointed room 217 on check in, a very basic room... More

We got a free upgrade from a standard double room to a superior room and we were very happy with that. It was on the corner of the building, so we had windows on to of the walls, one of them with a balcony directly above the Damrak (the street that leads to the Dam square), just a few meters... More

Our last night in a week long stop over, we decided to do it easy and walk from our fabulous hotel in Dam Square to this restaurant we'd spotted. In no way we're we disappointed. After about 5hours at Riksjmuseum, we looked for a restaurant serving Dutch food. My friend wanted to taste Dutch herring. And we ended up here in a restaurant near the Dam Square. The herring was fresh and delicious served with pickles, beets and sauces. The croquettes were crispy and flavoursome. The place is clean and service was great.

Neighbourhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Great central location, affordable rates, clean & comfortable rooms and friendly & attentive hospitality. In an amazing location, just off Dam Square and right in the middle of Amsterdam's city center, you'll find Hotel Amsterdam De Roode Leeuw. This is where you want to stay if you're coming to Amsterdam. Sure, you can find fancier 4 star hotels in Amsterdam, but what we may lack in glitz we more than make up for in authentic friendliness and true hospitality. All of our bathrooms are all new, and our rooms are comfortable, well maintained, and always spotlessly clean. ... more   less
