2021 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
The 56 rooms and suites at the Ambassade Hotel have been furnished and decorated with great care and provided with every modern convenience. The attractive lobby, salons and other public areas contain antique furniture and clocks combined with modern paintings created by the famous Cobra group. The amazing Library-Bar contains over 5000 books, all signed by the authors during their stay at the Ambassade Hotel and has an adjacent lounge that can also be hired for small meetings. On the first floor Brasserie Ambassade is run by Executive Chef Tom van Buuren and his brigade, who specialise in the classic French cuisine. In this wonderful Brasserie, decorated by art works and large chandeliers and overlooking the canal, each morning an extensive breakfast buffet including a large variety of hot dishes cooked to order is being served.

This is a wonderful hotel and you should stay here. We stayed for three nights at the Ambassade. The hotel fills roughly six former houses between two canals. They’ve been refurbished to a high standard so that the rooms and common areas of the hotel are all outstanding. Downstairs has a large library and there are scores of original artworks throughout the hotel. Because of the hotel’s makeup, it only has 56 rooms (according to the website, which also squares with our observation). It is and has the feel of a luxury boutique hotel. If they offer to take you to your room, take it – because of the hotel’s configuration the path might not be immediately obvious, and that is part of Ambassade’s charm. We normally view service at a hotel as largely a checkmark item – either it is acceptable or it is not. Here, we thought that the service was a cut above, however, and among the best we have experienced in years of world travel. Our room was large and complete with excellent amenities. We had a very nice view of one canal (there is another canal on the other side of the hotel). Our room was decorated to a high standard and it appears that each room is individually designed, reflecting the hotel’s personality. Ambassade is also very well located. There are many nearby shopping areas as well as fine restaurants. Among them is a 4-story Waterstones bookstore with many English language books. The hotel is a pleasant 15- to 20- minute walk to the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh, and Stedelijk museums. The Jardaans shopping area is maybe 5 minutes away. You will find countless shops and cafes along the way. You may also want to take advantage of the hotel’s excellent restaurant, Brasserie. The experience here was also a pleasure and, again, we would call out the friendly and attentive service. They also have café service along the canal if the weather is nice. One note: If you have mobility issues Amsterdam in general may be a problem for you due to uneven cobblestones, etc., but you should inquire of the hotel as well. Because the hotel is actually made up of several interconnected smaller buildings, there are steps even when rooms are on the same floor. We considered that part of the hotel’s atmosphere and dedication to its architectural roots, but if you have trouble with stairs you might want to ask for a room where there are fewer of them. As we were waiting for our cab to the airport the guest in front of us turned to a hotel employee to specifically thank him for making him feel at home during his stay. I cannot think of higher praise. All-in-all, Ambassade strikes just the right balance between the old and the new with outstanding, genuinely helpful service. We were very happy to have stayed here.

Dear Gregory, we feel really flattered by all your praise..., thank you very very much! Also for the beautiful description you gave of the Ambassade Hotel (56 rooms indeed and all different). Not each room, as you mention, is too easily accessible for guests with mobility issues, however we encourage to mention that in the remark field, when makikng a reservation, so we can assure the right room will be found. It would be so great seeing you again on a future trip to Amsterdam, Gregory, so: see you soon! Also from the rest of the team, Eelco, Ambassade Hotel

Hotel's Favourite
I absolutely adored my stay at the Ambassade. I had a lovely room on the canal which was the perfect place to stay. I also had a delightful lunch in the restaurant which was delicious and well priced. I’ve probably made about 50 trips to Amsterdam in the last decade, and the Ambassade is certainly the place where I would like to stay for the next 50.

The ten row homes along side a beautiful canal gives this amazing hotel a homey, yet elegant vibe. From the moment we arrived to the beautiful smile of Linde (we felt like old friends after so many cancellations) we witnessed an abundance of kindness and professionalism by everyone associated to this amazing establishment. Nothing is too much of an ask and their front of office staff & breakfast staff are both equally exceptional. Special shoutout to our fav's , Linde and Jasmine for their caring, professional and endearing ways. Our luxurious third floor Canal view room sports an extremely comfortable bed, fantastic view, sitting area, it's really pretty....as well there were beautiful flowers, champagne, chocolates, fruit . The bathroom is incredibly well appointed; with heated bathroom floors, heated towel racks, deep bath tub, separate shower and my favourite product in the world, Bvlgari. Combine all this with an exceptional staff, a Koan Float, amazing massages (think Colette) and you have a hotel to visit over the decades. Love it and can't wait to return.
