The Ambassade Hotel offers the ultimate base for you to explore the magical atmosphere of Amsterdam’s canals. Discover the charm and character of this unique boutique hotel in the heart of a wonderful city. The Ambassade Hotel is an authentic Amsterdam family-run hotel, located in fifteen 17th-century canal houses on the Herengracht canal and the Singel canal. It offers 55 stylish rooms and suites, each of them uniquely decorated in a perfect combination of classic and modern. The location is truly ideal, amidst the Amsterdam canal belt and in the intimate shopping area 'De Negen Straatjes' (Nine Streets). The Ambassade Hotel is just a stone's throw away from Dam square and all the famous museums, shopping streets, and other main attractions. Ask our staff for the ‘Ambassade city bikes and explore the surroundings as the local Amsterdammers do. On the 1st floor, you will find ‘Restaurant Ambassade’ - beautifully decorated with artworks, large chandeliers, and with magnificent views over the canal. Here you can enjoy exquisite international cuisine dishes, made with local, artisan ingredients. During your stay, discover the unique collection of over 800 CoBrA artworks that can be admired in all public areas as well as in each hotel room. The hotel's ‘Library Bar’ is not only the place for a cocktail but is also a literary delight. Here you will find more than 5,000 books, each signed by famous authors who stayed at the Ambassade Hotel upon invitation of their publishers. At ‘Samsara Books & Art’, the hotel’s art- and bookstore around the corner, you will find books, gifts, and unique souvenirs. Ask for the unique ‘Art & Culture’ tours and packages, including a tour around the Art & Literature inside the hotel. Looking for a place to unwind? For hotel guests, special rates apply for relaxing float sessions at ‘Koan Float’, the wellness center of the Ambassade Hotel. Koan Float also offers fourteen types of professional massages. The staff of the Ambassade Hotel is looking forward to the pleasure of welcoming you!

Nestled in a prime location with scenic canal views, the Ambassade Hotel is a gem that consistently impresses guests with its elegance and charm. While the rooms are unique and comfortable, and often praised for their cleanliness and modern amenities, some guests have noted the stairs can be steep and room sizes may vary. The service at this hotel stands out, with staff members receiving accolades for their professionalism and warmth. Although some find it pricey, many travelers believe the overall experience offers good value, attributing this to the hotel's atmosphere, well-curated art and book collections, and thoughtful amenities.

There is nothing I would change about our stay at the Ambassade Hotel. Communication during the reservation process was prompt, friendly, and thorough. Check-in was flawless. Our room was comfortable and housekeeping did an excellent job. Assistance with luggage and our return taxi to the airport were 100%.

Changed my mind. There is something I would have changed if I could. I would have stayed longer.

I was in Amsterdam for a brief layover and decided to spend a night in a hotel near the center of the city. Ambassade Hotel was a perfect place for exploring the city despite my short visit to Amsterdam. It is walkable to all of the major attractions and museums yet located on a quieter and scenic canal. My room was a basement room in a beautiful older building and had a new bathroom with a shower and separate bath. The room was nice, although it had twin beds put together instead of one queen bed. The location also let in noise from the sidewalk, but the room had large curtains to help reduce the sound.

Julien was very helpful and gave me a map and a guide to the nearby area. If you are looking for a lovely, cosy, and historic place to stay in Amsterdam that is close to the attractions yet away from the overly touristic areas, this is the place for you.

We stayed three nights in this top hotel and were more than satisfied at all levels. Our room was located on the Herengracht and very spacious. The staff was extremely accommodating when we arrived on our bicycles and helped us put them away safely. The rooms were very clean and breakfast was served at our table due to COVID-19. I really enjoyed this as I find buffets a bit tiring, getting up and having to remember what you need. We could enjoy our breakfast together and the very attentive staff would get us anything we wanted. Absolute top class and will go back.

My wife and I had a 'staycation' deal that entailed a first-class three-course evening meal preceding an overnight stay, with breakfast the day after. Our classic-style double room was ample for our needs and the Bulgari cosmetics complemented the room's grandeur and were highly appreciated. Access to the rooms could be deemed a little tricky for guests only accustomed to straight corridors and predictable interiors. Bear in mind that buildings with a historical past have this kind of legacy so take a moment to appreciate where you are and how people's houses once were.

Just wanted to share one last thing. The evening that we were safely dining in the brasserie we were treated to the sight of a thunderstorm which caught one of the terrace umbrellas in a gust and blew it into the canal. A resourceful staff member managed to fish it out fairly easily the next morning, much to our surprise. Good job!

Dear Sir, Madam, Thank you for your nice review, it is so good to see you had a lovely stay and also appreciated the ancient lay-out of all the buildings that together form the Ambassade Hotel. Yes, the lost umbrella, quite a story, isn't it? Altough the canals are 3 m. deep, our head-engineer Peter, managed to retrieve it from their dark depths, a real achievement. :) It would be great seeing you back next time you travel to Amsterdam. With best regards from our city and from the Ambassade Hotel, Eelco Douma

The Ambassade is in an excellent location for traveling around Amsterdam on foot or by tram - we never needed a car to do the things we wanted. The hotel itself is unique and even quirky. The staff in the hotel and dining room were always extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. I can't think of a better place to stay in Amsterdam.

We stayed at the Ambassade for our honeymoon, and the hotel was a great value for the location and service level that was provided. There are so many restaurants and shops within a very short walking distance to the hotel, which is wonderful for a city that is difficult to navigate by car. The rooms and bathrooms are a standard size; we upgraded to the canal view room, but not sure I would do that again as there were trees blocking 90% of the view. The furniture / carpet needs a bit of upgrades as they are pretty dated, and our in room hair dryer didn't work, making it difficult to get ready. Bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet so we did sleep very well. I would stay there again as it is affordable, and the location is unbeatable.

A beautiful boutique hotel occupying a number of 17th century canal side-houses. It is situated on the Heerengracht canal in a scenic, safe and tranquil neighborhood that is easily accessible to all the major attractions. The hospitality is amazing and the knowledgeable staff go out of their way to assist guests. The food is excellent; because of COVID-19 breakfast was a la carte rather than the usual buffet, and dinner at the Brasserie was excellent (we are foodies!). As a family we had 2 canal-side rooms that were spotlessly clean, each being unique because of the houses in which the hotel is situated, quiet, with very comfortable beds and updated bathrooms. To give an example of the superb hospitality: my daughter left some very expensive and unique shoes in the room. The front desk staff who took my daughter's 2 phone calls from the US was very considerate, but the shoes were not in the hotel's lost and found. However, about a week later I was called by the staff to let me know that they had found the shoes under the bed when the room's occupants had checked out. The shoes were packaged and shipped to the United States. I almost never write reviews, but the Ambassade was so special that I feel compelled to. I would stay here again and have no hesitation recommending this romantic hotel.

I would not stay anywhere else! We arrived from the US in the early morning hours, and although our room was understandably not ready, the staff was so courteous and friendly in assisting us through our exhaustion. The canal-view room was beautiful, and the service was top notch. We enjoyed the library bar on several occasions! The hotel's location puts in within a few minutes walk of the Spui Square tram stop and within walking distance of many major attractions. Honestly, there is no reason to stay anywhere other than the Ambassade when in Amsterdam.

It’s hard to overstate how wonderful our time was at the Ambassade. From the moment we arrived, we felt like we were their most important guests and that our happiness was their primary goal. We had an issue when we got to our first room (iour mistake!) and the Ambassade staff immediately found a solution that made our trip even more memorable. I felt terrible because it meant the staff member had to haul our luggage to a higher floor by going up & down the twisting stairs, but he made it seem like it was no problem at all.

We stayed in the Grand Suite and it was wonderful. The sitting area has a beautiful view of the canal & streets below. The sitting room is very spacious with a high ceiling and comfortable chairs & couch. The room had plenty of space for a temporary twin bed (which was extremely comfortable) & all of the other furniture. The separate bedroom was equally spacious and the bed was terrific. It doesn’t have a view, but the sitting room more than makes up for it. The bathroom is separated from the sitting room & bedroom thus providing privacy. Like everything else, was spacious & luxurious.

This is not a negative, but you should be aware that this room is accessed by very tight and steep staircase. I would not recommend the Grand Suite if you have serious mobility issues, but otherwise, I couldn’t recommend it more highly. Overall, the location, rooms, amenities, beautiful art, and top notch staff were all outstanding. I would go back tomorrow if I could!

I stayed at the Ambassade with my husband and two teenagers last month and we had a great time. The service was impeccable from the front desk to the cleaners to the restaurant staff all were very professional, friendly and willing to help with any request big or small. The decor is beautiful - lots of great paintings and artwork throughout the downstairs make you feel you are in an art gallery. The library bar with chess sets and photo books on Amsterdam was a great place to hang out in the day and evening. We enjoyed the Brasserie restaurant and even used the water therapy and message services next door. Thé location in the city Center and on a canal is perfect and easy to get to just about anything you’d want to see in the city - museums, restaurants, shopping, etc. The room service is limited to the hotel restaurant menu so if you’re looking to order simple fare from room service you may be disappointed. But given central location you can easily step out to get food. You can also rent bikes from the hotel which we did on two days and that was a great way to explore the city like locals.

We really enjoyed this hotel and would definitely stay here again!

That depends on what size room you book. My room was quite suitable for one, possibly two people. It had one large bed. Obviously, you would need a larger room. I’m sure they have them. I suggest you check the website. That aside, I strongly recommend this hotel, the food, staff, and location are great. Have a wonderful trip!

Thank you for your kind message with your question. The hotel has two lifts that reach almost every room, however please be aware that the structure of the buildings that form the hotel brings with it that almost always a few steps have to be taken. However please do not worry about luggage: the hotel staff will carry those up and down for you at any time. Hope to have the pleasure of seeing you soon. Eelco Douma, Ambassade Hotel

You are in between the 9 best streets for shopping. It is close to cathedrals, restaurants, and museums. It is right on the canal with an incredible view. Next time I come to Amsterdam, I will stay at this hotel again. It is magnificent.
