Myself and friend stayed here for a long weekend. The hotel was lovely with friendly staff. The only down side is the steep stairs but other than that, a great place to stay especially if you want to be by the museum quarter.

This is a beautiful traditional hotel in a classic Dutch townhouse. The street is just a few blocks from the famous Museumplein featuring the Van Gogh and Rembrandt Museums. My room and bed was very comfortable and it was refreshing waking up to a very delicious and large breakfast in a nice room with original artworks. The rate was very... More

We arrived in Amsterdam slightly confused at the transport system so walked from central station (Do not advise this as it took us about an hour), once we arrived the staff helped us figure how the transport worked and gave us a map so we could get around easier. The tram stop was a 2 minute walk from the hotel... More

Set in a nice quiet area that's not too far from the city centre - we bought a pass for the tram and it only took about 10 minutes. Also conveniently near a supermarket and some great museums. We didn't really have much contact with the staff; only on check in and out. They were pleasant however. The room was... More

Stayed at this hotel for 7 nights. Single room + private bathroom, 3rd floor. - Location is great. Ride a tram no.16 or 24 from Centraal station about 10-15 min, get off at 'Ruysdealstraat'. It's just 2 min walk from tramstop to the hotel - Very close to many major museums (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum, Stedelijk) and also the Concertgebouw... More

Excellent hotel in a good location - the staff were very friendly and helpful. The stairs were steep but manageable. There is a good (albeit expensive) cafe just across the road. As with most Amsterdam hotels it is expensive and has an additional surcharge for credit card use (normal in amsterdam), perhaps making it clear to bring enough cash would... More

Located in a renovated older home in the museum district, this place is pretty basic but close to some popular Amsterdam attractions. My first two nights were on the second floor, where the room was tiny and just acceptable, though the floor was generally quiet. As the rates here more than double on the weekends I moved to a cheaper... More

We were placed on the top floor which we asked for when booking. The room was spacious and had a nice little balcony with a good view. We booked a room with private bath, and it was everything we expected. All in all, The Washington is really nice for its 2 stars. So, for a short summary: Really nice service!... More

I stayed in a single room for 3 nights, the room was spacious enough for one person. The bathroom was clean, hot water worked fine. Heating was slow and poor. Room got cold at night the windows were shut but the air still crept through. The service is poor. The staff are not very friendly or accommodating. It is not... More

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
