We stayed at the Hotel Fita May 1, 2012 in Room 10. The hotel (a bed and breakfast) is in an intimate, residential area one short street away from the Van Gogh museum and two blocks from the Rjiksmuseum, a block from the bus stop Route 2 & 5)' short distance to a guided canal tour, and easy walking distance...

If you're planning a long weekend to Amsterdam then I can't recommend this hotel highly enough. The position is ideal - in a quiet street, but very close to a lot of the main attractions and entetainment areas - and the rest of the city is walkable. The two young brothers than run the hotel - Roel and Martijn -...

My recent stay with my wife and daughter couldn't have been more perfect. My daughter has been studying in Belgium for the past year and we decided to visit and take a short trip to the Netherlands . While there, we visited the major art museums, the Ann Frank House, the Aalsmeer flower auction, and the tulip gardens of Keukenhof....

A very comfortable small family hotel run by two brothers. Any concerns are taken care of immediately. A substantial breakfast and the Dutch pancakes are a must. Even a large basket of washing was done for us for free. A great location near good restaurants and shopping.

Our stay at the Hotel Fita in April was delightful. The location near the museums and the tramway is perfect. The family owners could not have been more accommodating, the breakfast was delicious and the free laundry a bonus. I remember my first trip to Amsterdam as a college student and having to ascend several flights of narrow stairs to...

We have visited Amsterdam many times, but this was our first stay at Hotel Fita. We prefer the museum area when we visit and now we have found a "home" for the future. Truly a family affair from the moment you step in - you will meet all four of them, most likely. Walk to the museums, the tram, the...

This hotel is staffed by the owner family members--mom, dad and two adult sons. They were all unfailingly warm and helpful, each one introducing him/herself upon first meeting us. Although the front desk is not continuously staffed, there is a bell and someone always answered quickly. In addition to your room key, you get a key to the front door....

The hotel is less than a block from the Van Baerlestraat tram stop (2 & 5). We stayed in room 36, which is on the top floor corner adjacent to the play yard (alley) that goes right to the Van Gogh museum. It was a very nice room with an extremely large bathroom. Like many Dutch buildings, the stairway is...

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
