We stayed at Rho hotel 2 nights in July, arrived very early in the morning and couldnt find hotel at first coming from the station. But it is very centrally located near Dam square. The check in was very long, the night administrator was helping us that doesnt usually do the job. But he did follow our request for a...

We stayed at the Rho for three nights before our Baltic cruise. We chose this hotel based on its location and other TripAdvisor reviews. PROS 1. Great location for first-time visitors to Amsterdam--walk to Anne Frank, Red Light District, train station, Jordaan neighborhood, etc. 2. Friendly and helpful desk staff with a sense of humor. 3. An included breakfast with...

Although this hotel is centrally located, we had no air in our 4th floor room. For three nights we made do with a portable fan. Thank goodness it was not too hot. Also, a member of our party had a large sum of money taken from her luggage during the day while we were out sightseeing. We can only surmise...

Right off Dam Square, you can walk wherever you want. We stayed for 3 nights. The staff was amazing, gave great recommendations for restaurants and provided directions with a highlighted map. The room was pretty simple, but we were not visiting for a top notch hotel experience. Breakfast was included with the rate and provided us with enough choice it...

Stayed at this hotel for 1 night only as an add on to DFDS mini cruise from Newcastle to Amsterdam. There were 3 of us and we booked one of their triple rooms but ended up with an upgrade to a suite because of building work. The location just off the main square is ideal as a central location to...

Great location; literally steps away from Dam Square and easy walking access to Centraal Station, shopping, sightseeing and loads of restaurants. Our room was basic but comfortable with all the necessities. Staff were very friendly and helpful no matter the time of day. Breakfast was included with the rate and was above average. I will stay again.

I only had one night here unfortunately but will definitely book again next time I'm in Amsterdam. It was easy to get to from Centraal station, very centrally located (Dam square), near great shopping and many tourist attractions. The staff were very friendly and courteous and pointed me in the right direction. The room (single) was spacious enough for one,...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
