I was here last winter, this place was horrible. Staff try and coerce people staying into bible discussions, I recall being laughed at by two creeps volunteering here...overall, people at this place are very unstable. I think they're those "Born Again Christians" or whatever. I nearly sped into RUN when I got out of this place. Staying here helped make...

One of the good things about Shelter City is the location, it's just 10minutes away from the central station, basically in the middle of the red light, with a supermarket nearby, a lot of restaurants and coffeshops two steps close. We got there a little late because we had some problems with the trains, but there was no problem and...

I spent 3 nights with a friend in a 10 people dorm. My friend had to leave after the second night but because we had booked 3 nights online he had to pay all three (I didn't get why). The shelter is located in the heart of the red light district, that is Amsterdam's most central and interesting for tourists...

The hostel has a great location around 10 minutes walk from the main train station and Dam square. It was very clean and breakfast was fantastic! If you are looking for a quiet hostel in Amsterdam then this is the place to stay!

Nice place, friendly staff with a warm smile always on their faces.... The breakfast was also good and the place was secure The rooms were a bit congested and the washrooms even cleaned daily, had problems Located besides or within the RLD, so the street got a bit creepy...... but the location itself was perfect to xplore amsterdam

Yes, the location was great, but being that close to the Red Light district also means that it can be pretty loud at night. The hostel was quite cheap and comes with free breakfast. The facility was ok and I do like the garden.

I would definitely recommend you this hostel if you're travelling alone. I took the 2 bed female room, the room is basic but clean and quiet and the bed was comfy. The common bathroom is very clean. Actually, the whole hostel is very well kept! The staff is very nice and helpful if you have any questions, and I enjoyed...

When i first found this hostel i was a bit concerned about its location being so close to red light district, and since im a solo female traveler i wanted to be safe. It turned out that my worries were totally unnecessary. Shelter city is perfectly safe for anyone and the staffs were really helpful. Breakfast is good too especially...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
