If you are looking for a break from the huge chain hotels try this unique property. The building is from the 17th century and is charming. Each room is themed after a historical craft (shoemaker, boat builder, tanner, etc) and is furnished with antique artifacts that reflect the craft. The hotel is very intimate, only 16 I believe, so it's very quiet. I also like the fact that the small number of guests makes it possible for the friendly and helpful staff to actually know who you are. It's also in a great location: a 10 minute walk from the Central Station, a 5 minute walk from tram lines, and easy walking distance to the cool restaurants and shops in the Jordaan neighborhood and the Anne Frank House. Although the building itself is very old our room (and I assume all the rooms) have been thoroughly updated with A/C, modern bathrooms, USB charger outlets, etc. The elevator is a hoot. It's tiny. Only big enough to hold two people or one person and a suitcase. So if you have a lot of luggage you are going to need to engage in a little shuttle diplomacy. Otherwise you will need to navigate the narrow, steep and winding staircase. Another welcome touch is the nice complimentary breakfast which can be served either in your room or in the very pretty common room on the ground floor. If you tell them what time you want to eat the day before, it will be laid out and ready when you come downstairs! All in all, highly recommended.

Best staycation! I can only recommend it. We got a very warm and genuine service. Claire helped us organising a surprise for a friend, thank you! We stayed in The Blacksmith which has no canal views (we were informed) but the beautiful two floors room make up for it. Also really enjoyed the bath in the stunning bathroom with great amenities, perfect to treat yourself :) The dinner is served in the cosy Gallery, right on the canals. We really appreciated that the chef came to every table to serve the plates! And my favourite decoration has to be the 'metal canoe table' in the Gallery, hard to explain but super cool... Throughout the entire hotel, every detail of the interior decor is fun, smart and top design. Overall, it feels luxurious but also very homey since it is quite a small hotel. Everything was flawless, it was a perfect getaway! Felt like a real holiday, even if we live in Amsterdam!

I love this hotel because you feel like you’re in Amsterdam when you’re just hanging in your room. Every morning you wake up to a beautiful canal view outside of your window and every night you can take a warm bath or shower overlooking the canal lights. We stayed in the the boat builder room and everything was clean and nicely set up. This hotel is so cute, comfortable, has amazing location to everything, and the staff is also super friendly!

I stayed in the "Boat Builder" it had a great bathtub! The layout is slightly cramped to move around, but once in the main room, its fairly spacious and you can relax. It located very close to central station and awesome proximity to food places, coffee shops and beautiful canal strolls. If you're planning to chill in bed and watch TV, there was no smart Tv, so English channels and choice are limited. There was a light breakfast it was well present(fruit, croissants, granola, yoghurt, cheese, ham, chocolate sprinkles (hagelslag), peanut butter). . . you get the idea!
The pillows in the room were harder than I would prefer, but the staff were great and changed it for a softer pillow on request. The work space/ coffee area has a great view of the canal and was really well designed and decorated, unfortunately due to covid we were not able to use it. in the morning you can hear the hustle and bustle of people waking up and moving around, however that is to be generally expected in this location.

Overall my favourite feature was the bathtub in this room and the view of the canal while you soak up as well as the amazing service from the staff from the start throughout the stay.

Our flight from Schiphol was cancelled so we booked this last minute and really lucked out. The receptionist was really helpful and informative, offering to assist with restaurant and bar recommendations, indeed we saw him on the street on his way home and he showed us to a bar. Staff can be contacted via what’s app to provide assistance. Our room, the Shoesmith was great, so much thought put into the design for example lamps made with old metal shoe trees, and indeed this originality and attention to detail was reflected throughout the hotel. The bed is comfortable and the shower powerful. Breakfast was fresh, tasty and coffee great. We hope to return in the not too distant future.

Absolutely incredible experience (I feel like “stay” or “hotel” doesn’t do it justice!) it is really like living in a beautiful museum with meticulously restored and luxuriously decorated/furnished rooms and common spaces. The host was incredibly helpful with activity and restaurant recommendations and reservations. They were also very accommodating with luggage stowage and early checkin (as available). The breakfast was also superb!

Perfect location, comfortable clean beds, impeccable service, delicious breakfast, what a treasure of a hotel! Highly recommend!!!

My husband and I stayed with our two children (ages 10 and 12) in the Blacksmith room. My husband and I had the main bedroom with oversized king bed with very soft and clean bedding, such a cozy bed and our kids stayed in the upstairs bedroom that had two twin beds. There is an oversized bathroom with a full size tub, glass enclosed stand up shower with the best water pressure ever, no joke this is a spa quality shower! There is a small galley way separating the king bedroom from the bathroom and stairs to the kids room that is appointed with a mini fridge ( with complimentary bottle of sparkling wine), nespresso coffee maker and tea kettle with plenty of tea bags choices. The room was very clean. The decor is very charming and whimsical. The best is the breakfast each morning, don’t miss the breakfast! I won’t spoil the surprise of all that’s included, but the breakfast was very special. The service from staff was wonderful. Location is awesome- you are in the charming neighborhood of Jordaan- full of great restaurants, coffee shops, shopping and incredible canal walking. We rented bikes from neighboring discount bike rental and that was definitely the way to go- everywhere in Amsterdam is just a few minutes by bike. There is also much to do next to the hotel by foot if that is more your style. I will definitely recommend this hotel to others and we will be back! This hotel is truly a gem!!

My husband and I stayed at Hotel The Craftsmen for four days the first week of December. I defied our regular hotel selection of a Marriott as soon as I found Hotel The Craftsmen in my search for lodging in Amsterdam. I fell in love with the property's story on their website and the live version did not disappoint at all! Every material detail in this hotel was meticulously selected, from the doorknobs to the light fixtures to the little welcome kit. Nothing was overlooked. Each room has its own unique charms, but I chose the Airplane Builder because my husband is very tall and this room is on the top floor with vaulted ceilings. He still bumped his head all over the place but that was okay - we were there for the experience of it all and had fun with it!

Puck and Michelle and their staff were just superb! The place has its own wonderful sense of humor and we felt like we were staying with friends. Located on the Singel Canal, it is a close walk or tram ride to wherever you would like to go.

Amsterdam is one cool town. We can't wait to go back, and when we do we'll stay again at Hotel The Craftsmen!

Effortless check-in. There’s an elevator (small) which is essential for luggage given Amsterdam’s very narrow stairways. The Woodworker room is small but comfortable. The bed is supportive but not too firm with a duvet (no separate sheet) that would be excellent in cooler weather. We were there during a heatwave; fortunately the a/c is very efficient and maintained th comfort zone (23C) even when we were out and about.
The Woodworker overlooks a narrow street without much of a view. This is offset by a large bathroom with plentiful hot water, good water pressure, a spacious shower with two options (over-head or handheld) and two vanity sinks. Is stringly recommend requesting this room.
The breakfast (included) was exceptional and can be delivered to your room at no charge. The staff prepared a light bagged breakfast to take with us on our last morning since we had to catch an early train. Everyone was exceptionally friendly, courteous and helpful!
The neighbourhood is safe and the entrance is about 40 feet from the nearest canal. The Rijksmuseum is an easy 1.2 km walk along the canals and an excellent restaurant district is a 15 min walk away (and many restaurants and pubs are in the vicinity as well.)

From start to finish, Hotel The Craftsmen was excellent in all aspects. I researched hotels to stay in Amsterdam way more then I care to admit and this was the best mix of luxury, value, and location. We stayed in the Miller loft room and my wife and I absolutely loved it. The window overlooking the canal was spectacular and the breakfast each morning was fresh and filling. We were able to walk to all of the major attractions and areas that we wanted to with ease including the Anne Frank house (~10 min walk) and the Rijksmuseum (~ 25min walk).

We both would not hesitate to stay here again, which is a testament to the quality of the hotel. We are not often looking to spend $300+ USD/night on a hotel, but it was so comfortable and convenient, we would do it again. Thanks to the entire staff for a great way to experience Amsterdam!

P.S. They provide excellent recommendations for local eateries and attractions which we also found really useful.

I'm not 100% sure, but there was definitely a little shop just to the right of the hotel entrance where you could buy sandwiches, etc. I think you should ask The Craftsmen about breakfast directly. It might depend on how busy they are ...
