The hotel was clean, spacious with a free hot breakfast. The room had three beds, wardrobe and a sink. The bathrooms were always clean. The cleaning staff called every day. The breakfast was excellent and the bar had very cheap drinks. It was a 20 minute walk from the Van Gogh museum which was the furthest we went. Very central....

I did not know it was located in the red lite district. The location was dirty and full of tourists at night caused many disturbances. The breakfast is below average with this price. The place has share bathroom and is very old. I stayed only one day and could not wait to check out.

the only realy positive thing was the friendly staff and the central location. keeping in mind it is a one star hotel all i will say is that it could be cleaner, they definitely have to do something with that carpet, stairs are very narrow and steep and there is no lift and also on the third floor there are...

Had my doubts while booking this hotel due to 1 star, however it under promises and overdelivers. Ok maybe i'll award the 1 star to the staircase going up to your room - it's steep and tight and a struggle for those with suitcases. Location is perfect, a ten minute walk from the train station. It's smack bang in the...

Almost everything has already been said about this hotel, excellent location, friendly staff, breakfast, steep and narrow stairs, ... However, we had a bit of bad luck with this hotel, as we arrived on the hottest day of the summer, and there was no air conditioning. We had a fan, though. Also, we were bitten by bugs and found them...

A group of 4 of us stayed here for 3 nights from the 15th August. We weren't expecting much, but were so pleasantly surprised to find friendly staff running the place, 24 hour bar, strict security (to which you show your room key card to be allowed access to the hotel part), a big spacious (and clean) room, fresh towels...

The hotel was in a prime location, close to everything. We walked everywhere! Great price and the people who worked there were very friendly and always had a smile. Only downfall was there was no aircon or fan in rooms. Had to open window to get a breeze but the noise at night then kept you up. Small price to...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
