Even though I had emailed confirmation of our two rooms they got it wrong on the day, no apologies. Room was filthy (have pictures) and breakfast was lukewarm when they had it. Hit and miss with the room service. Would not recommend this hotel to anybody.

Beautiful old hotel. Comfortable beds with big fluffy pillows, very high ceiling, very friendly staff. Good location in walking distance to the central train station. Has a small pool and hot tub with a gym.

Pros Nice location Room quiet Good night sleep Comfortable bed Very clean in room Cons - why is this not 5 star 1 bottle of complimentary water in room on day 1 - not replaced and when queried was advised you only get 1 bottle per stay - not acceptable in 5 star Tea in room not replaced either ( same happened to friends in different rooms) 1 biscuit per room which was replaced daily Went to bar and was over charged check your bill!! drinks on there we didn’t have, put down to human error and was rectified when error highlighted Exactly the same happened on day 2! no coincidence and appears to be common occurrence We did bring the above matters to the receptions attention so that hotel may consider the points above - they did acknowledge the points and thanked us for feedback We are quite easy going and don’t normally complain but we did not feel 5* so were genuinely disappointed

Terrible for a supposed 5 stat hotel! TV obscured by bedpost. Heavy difficult bed to get out from. Poor signage. Expensive. No handrails at main entrance. Definitely NOT 5 star in my view. Never, ever, again. In my view very overrated.

This will be the last time we use this hotel.....We sadly experienced poor treatment of guests and a bad room.....due to the hotel having a 'VIP guest' (their words, not mine) we experienced terrible service, the way they treat guests is so poor, you do not treat guests any differently, whether they are 'VIP' or not. Blocking paying customers from entering the hotel and interrogating them with questions about whether they are staying is not acceptable...we stayed with another couple, and we both had to be moved due to issues with the room in addition to the problems as noted above. The couple got an apology, but only after we pointed out what had happened...the Hotel thought they did nothing wrong......also the spa facilities weren't the best. The hot tub was warm at best, and this was despite the hotel being advised of this.......we cannot believe this is a five star hotel...how it keeps this grading considering the issues with the rooms/facilities, and they way they treat guests is beyond me....very poor......avoid this hotel and go somewhere else.

I wouldn’t pay the money for it purely due to the rude behaviour of certain members of staff, particularly the manager on duty today during check out (26 May). After waiting 25 mins for the car valet service to bring our car down and then bringing the wrong car, we tried to reason with the manager (politely and without raising voices) on duty to potentially waiver the fee for the inconvenience. Mid conversation she walked away and said she’ll come back later as she was dealing with something else. When asked when she’d come down, she continued to walk away as though she hasn’t heard. I then asked her her name, she turned around looked at me and completely ignored me and continued walking away. This was the Manager on duty! As though that was not enough, the reception staff were sniggering at the exchange. When I asked them her name they looked the other way as though no one was asking them anything, when pressed, one of them said that due to privacy they could not give me her name (which considering the amount I’ve traveled is the most bizarre experience and true experience of rude behaviour and perhaps even borderline discriminative). We paid close to €500 per night to stay here for two nights and I have to say this is probably the worst encounter with members of staff I’ve experienced in a so-called 5 star hotel. About the rooms: -Fairly well equipped. -We booked and paid for a room with 3 people and they gave one complimentary bottle of water for the entire stay. -Spacious bathroom and reasonably sized room -We had to take our own luggage up and down to the rooms as they were busy -Room service was fairly good and prompt and some of the non-reception/managerial staff like the restaurant / housekeeping staff for example were very nice -check in took ages, the woman checking us in took 20-25 mins to process the check in, with a queue of about 5-6 people deep waiting - amenities in the room are fine but the rooms themselves need a little updating, it’s over 100 years old and some of the fixtures and fittings such as wardrobes, curtains look it - one window opened in our room but you have to stuff a folded up towel under it to keep it open Essentially I would not ever stay or recommend to stay in an Amrath hotel - purely based on this rude behaviour.

Like many other reviews I've just read, the hotel is well located but the 5 star rating is much too high. This is mid range for service and amenities. Although our room had a nice canal view, we were in the new section of the building meaning we had to walk a very long and convoluted was through a maze of corridors to fi d our room. After the first of our 4 day stay the lift broke down! This meant four flights of stairs AFTER our long walk through the maze of corridors! Three days to fix a lift! Even if it was a long weekend, a five star hotel would have a plan b, or even an emergency lift service? Not this 5 Star hotel, which proves my point. The front desk staff at check-in were surley and lacked any kind of welcome, when we complained about a smell in our room, we came back to find they had left our window open! Towels, tissues (empty) and toiletries not replenished. Do they know covids finished? Staff need extra training. We won't risk this place again.

Having stayed here in Dec 22, when the Hotel appeared to be in a disorganized state with regards to staffing, room cleaners, communications with guests and more, I am so pleased with my recent re stay May 23, that this Hotel is slowing that they are getting back on track, my recent experience has shown me that the hotel is sorting out any previous issues, the reception staff are efficient, polite and helpful, the porters are a delight to meet always happy to help. The room cleaners have excelled them selves with being friendly obligingly and showing commitment. The bar staff are cheerful and attentive. I am so glad I have given this hotel a 2nd chance to stay, for they are really trying to improve themselves and showing that they are committed. This hotel is so unique in architecture and Dutch history and is such a beautiful place to stay. So I am happy to recommend this Hotel.

The building is historic and interesting. The staff is immensely helpful and the included breakfast was diverse and delicious. We had some challenges because my friend hurt his foot on the way over and they provided a wheelchair for him and directed us to an emergency clinic. The hotel is well located near the Central Station, and the rooms were quite spacious.

First , the good, an excellent location and we had a lovely canal view. The not so good, the furniture in our junior suite was super uncomfortable. The couches were too low, with unpadded deep sides. The 4-poster bed that looks great in the photos has hard sides which cut into your legs when you get in or of the bed. Breakfast had no savory condiments, not even ketchup, and we had received a snack board with our rate, and asked for it to be takeaway to have as a snack on the train. We were told “sure”, but when we checked out we were told that the kitchen had not opened yet, so it hadn’t been made “sorry”.
