Pleasant stay at Volkshotel. We booked the Soixante Neuf special room, which was lovely. The bathtub with super view really made the room stand out. The bed was quite high up to get onto so I wouldn’t recommend if you struggle with mobility. There wasn’t a kettle or coffee making facilities in the room which I would have expected for the price. However the complementary drinks and snacks in the fridge was a nice touch! I wouldn’t recommend the breakfast as there was little choice and over priced for what it was. The overall design of the hotel is really chic funky and I would definitely stay again. The location is only a few stops on the metro from the centre of Amsterdam. I would book the room again just for the bathtub and view!!

Unfortunately this building has a problem with mice. At first we thought maybe it was a one off - we discovered one mouse in our 3rd floor bedroom overnight. There are clear signs to not take food into your room, but I am sure many guests do, and we were in a studio room with a kitchen so I imagine that many guests will have lots of food for cooking in their rooms. We were able to move rooms for the 2nd night after the mouse, but later we saw another mouse in the hotel bar on the ground floor. When we spoke to staff about this one, they said that they often see them and it's hard to control because of the basement bar and there being a lot of food storage around. They acknowledged it was a problem but didn't seem to think there would ever be a solution. They said there is already someone coming in weekly to do pest control, but obviously it isn't 100%. Very unhygienic in both the rooms and the bar where food and drink were being served. Secondly, we were disappointed that we couldn't make use of the spa at all during our stay because of the weather - be aware that as it is outside it will close and you will not be able to access it if the weather is bad. This of course makes sense, but it was a shame for us.

I highly recommend the Volkshotel! We booked two rooms - one suite with a full kitchen/dining room, a sleeper sofa, and a queen bed in a loft. The second room was a sleeper cabin with a shared bathroom. The suite was amazing. Very comfortable bed and plenty of room. We also enjoyed having a nice sized balcony. Nice to enjoy coffee in the morning on the balcony! The sleeper cabin worked fine for our daughter and her boyfriend. It is very small, but they spent plenty of time in our suite. The hotel decor is eclectic and interesting. Very large lobby area, with cool decor. Breakfast area in the lobby was very nice. Hot tubs up on the roof which we enjoyed one evening. Very fun. The staff was wonderful. Very helpful and friendly. Be prepared to walk (or bike) a lot. 20-25 minute walk to the museums and to Dam square. But the area around the hotel is safe, clean, and beautiful to walk around. We would definitely stay here again!

The family and I (52, 46, 17, 14) stayed at the Vokshotel for five days this past July, on the end of a three-week European trip. The price and location were excellent - very easy to get to at all hours using public transit. A well-stocked grocery store (you will need CASH or a Dutch credit card!) and several restaurants within walking distance made it safe and easy to go out and explore. We were thrown off a bit by restaurants closing between 9 and 10, but that's only because we were coming from Spain / Portugal and had gotten used to eating later. Being able to rent a bike all day at the front desk was a huge perk. The bar is well-stocked, the lounge areas are spacious, and there's even ping pong and foosball if you wander the main floor a bit. What was very interesting to me for such a high profile establishment was how it seemed several staff members couldn't be bothered to treat customers with respect or sincerity. I don't THINK I'm a Karen (reading an American reviewer's opinion of experiencing anything abroad as lacking respect would certainly set of some alarm bells in my mind); it simply seemed like most of the staff was training, or maybe just didn't know how to give good advice / recommendations. Two examples: - We were looking for a nearby spot with good burgers (my son and I were craving them). A staff member told us a spot where he used to work, said they were really good. The restaurant (Kool) was crowded for trivia night, but empty outside, where we sat. Informed that our choice of drink would be water, plus one beer, the server told us the restaurant's policy was that everyone had to order a non-water drink or pay an additional surcharge. It was Tuesday, they were not busy, no one was waiting for a table. We left, and had to scramble to get vending machine food / bottom of the travel bag snacks for dinner that night. (Stupid principles, I know). Upon telling the staff member about this jacked up nonsense, his response was, "huh." Seemed he couldn't care less. - I asked at the desk how to take public transit to my daughter's dance class across town. I asked if there was a reliable app that would allow me to put in a starting and ending location, then get directed to the correct bus / subway line. The staff member had never heard of one (really? Every city has this, usually several), and patronizingly instructed me how to use googlemaps. In both of these cases I would have been better served asking any patron at the bar, or even someone on the street, how to proceed. We generally like staying in hotels at the beginning and end of trips because of the convenience - you can get helpful information just by walking downstairs. Tl;dr Volkshotel management do a great job hiring beautiful people, but may want to spend some time training them.

It’s within your price range It’s not too cool It’s fit for Digital Nomads It sits in a hip area, making other hot spots 2 – 25 minutes away It makes the Best Hotels lists of the world, and it’s my new favourite. In the face of a Eurotrip that may have so many other uncertain variables, choose the amazing hotel only 50 metres from metro station Wibautstraat. Quality of Sleep: Exceptional. With an egalitarian Front Desk that likely, collectively knows at least 12 languages, Volkshotel’s team is one of the most helpful and hardworking bunches I’ve ever come across. Volkshotel proves it can measure up with the best of them, with the likes of: Luggage storage (like it’s so safe, you guys!) Laundry Airconditioning Lift (which I’ve discovered can be an anomaly in Amsterdam) Parking Off-street Self-service In-house dining Wi-Fi EV Charging Station Wheelchair accessible Cable TV Designated smoking area, and more available. The Michelin Guide praises Volkshotel for drawing in “travelers, artists, nightclubbers, entrepreneurs, and dedicated foodies” through their facilities.

We had a wonderful stay at Volkshotel! The hotel's location near the canals and a short metro trip to the center was perfect. Our room, the business man's trip room, was excellent and provided a comfortable stay, the bathtub in the room was an excellent touch and we had a wonderful view of the City. The hotel's club, bar, restaurant, and rooftop hot tubs with a stunning city view were fantastic. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended for an exceptional Amsterdam experience!

Super cool, quirky, arty hotel. Love the branding, the look and feel of the place. Cool comfy and clean rooms. Unfortunately, the quirky upbeat brand wasn't in sync with the staff who seemed to be absolutely miserable. If you don't want to work in tourism/hospo - find another job. Such a shame to come all of the way from New Zealand to Amsterdam (our only visit to the Netherlands), to be super excited to be there, to find staff that appear to not want to be there. Remember you are the face of your place when you work in an accommodation provider - for your guests this isn't necessarily just a bed.

We spent two nights here. Loved the vibe and the many spots where you can eat, work and relax, throughout the building. We had a Large room. Beds very comfortable. No street or noise from other rooms. Bathroom and toilet each had a step up to enter, which we all tripped on. Right by metro station. Elevator from street level. On Fridays you can get a haircut in the lobby. Our disappointment was that we made a reservation for a massage, but the person at front desk didn't record it properly, so it didn't happen. No apology. The massage therapist didn't come because she didn't know she had any appointments. This hotel is only a block from the Amstel River. We felt safe walking around. Supermarket is a block away. Bolt to airport cost 48 euros.

Also nice to hear you liked the location and the area here in Amsterdam. :-) We apologize for the mistake with booking the masseuse. Everyone can make mistakes, but an apology should also be required. Nonetheless, we hope the rest of your stay made up for this inconvenience, and hope to welcome you back sometime in the future! A bit on the outside of city centre but easily connected by the metro train. Very budget hotel but totally functional. Room is bare but of a decent size and the toilets is functional with the washbasin outside. Nothing to complain. A very good breakfast. The cafe on the ground floor and the bar on the top floor see a lot of local visitors.

Hi Amjadshamsi, Thanks for taking the time to give us your feedback. Glad you liked the breakfast and spaces we have to offer our guests. You're right, we're a bit outside of the city centre. But the hotel is located between two lively neighbourhoods called De Pijp and Amsterdam Oost. We can also recommend renting a Volkshotel bike. It's the most fun way to get to and around town. And you'll be in the centre within 10 to 15 minutes. We hope to see you again soon! Kind regards, Team Volks
