New and clean rooms, nice space, nice shower and comfortable bed, but the pictures on the website were looking better than the reality. The view from the windows was the train station and a construction yard. Internet and cable TV ok. There is a huge construction by the hotel, that appears to be in the beginning. The noises of the machines woke us up daily around 9h. After we complained, they removed us from the 4th to the 7th floor, the room was smaller, but same standard. The noise problem was partially solved, but check this out before you book in case you want a quiet place to stay. It can be a problem. I didn't use the restaurant, room service or breakfast.
The staff was ok, but I wouldn't return. The location (too far from the centre, and to get the train ticket costs something more), the view and the noise problems made it not worth the price I paid (which was not cheap.)
The check in staff were very accommodating and helpful. The hotel was very easy to find and close to the Train station/metro stations (10-15 min walk max!) We also had a Spar convenience store which was within a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel.
Anyway, back to the hotel! We checked in around 7pm once navigated the trains/metro from the airport. The lady was very helpful with explaining where everything was and what the hotel had to offer. On this occasion we did not visit their sky lounge restaurant. However, once we got to our room, we were greeted by a very spacious room with comfy beds and A/C! The facilities were just amazing!
Mini fridge, tea/coffee with a kettle available in the room which was cleverly stored in the cupboards. We also had a Iron and Ironing board with hangers too! The TV was great too, however didn’t seem to find anything in English lol, so we just watched Netflix on our laptop we brought with us.
The bathroom had a wet room style to it, the shower was powerful and there was a adjustable shower head should you need to use it. There were basic shampoo/conditioners available, however we did not use them on this occasion as we brought our own.
As silly as this will sound.. we brought our own toilet roll as we have visited a few hotels with the really thin cheaper toilet paper.. but we were amazed to see great quality loo roll!!
The location of the hotel was in a nice area, very peaceful at night with a few local restaurants within walking distance.
Unfortunately I did not take any pictures :( but I would definitely visit again!
Plenty of space in the room to open two suitcases at the sametime. Nice bed with square pillow(?) Could be a Netherlands thing but you can ask for pillows of your choice if the default ones don't suit you.
TV is a modern Sony 40" but not with smart functions. Wifi is adequate for videos but not for updating apps. Hot water is plenty and quick to come out from tap. Towels are nice. Nice and strong hairdryer which blows the lady away. Clean but slow kettle.
Very weak fridge. Not adequate for cold beers but good enough for sandwich and yoghurts.
Very bad complementary tea bags and coffee. I almost didn't buy any tea in Amsterdam due to thia but then i folind out the tea and coffee is from Germany. The English breakfast tea is tasteless and the rest of them is strange.
Very bad rain shower. It is an extra wide rainshower that covers not only your head but the shoulder as well. I don't like it and find it a waste of water on the side. The rainshower mimics rain drops which i think is not enjoyable at all.
Interesting soaps. Not sure if its a Netherlands thing or not but it takes double amount of soap to make the same amount of bubbles even the water is soft. Some places uses English brands and those soaps are fine.
A lot of minor bad comments but very personal. The room itself in a nice location deserves the five. I find Sloterdijk is probably the best staying location with the highest CP compared with other lower cost alternative like Hoofddorp.
location:
the location was absolutely excellent being within a 2 - 5 minute walking distance of sloterdijk station (depending on if you want the NS, tram, train or metro). sloterdijk as an area was really lovely, however if you want to transit to any of the more central amsterdam stations you’re in an amazing area to do so and can reach amsterdam centraal, lelylaan, zuid, rokin etc in an extremely short time.
also, schiphol airport is only 10 minutes away on the NS.
if you want to be in an area that doesn’t have the congestion, crowds and prices of central amsterdam but you want to be in close proximity to central & schiphol - sloterdijk is the perfect area, and the mercure is a lovely option to stay.
service:
the service was absolutely incredible with all staff being extremely friendly and the receptionist who i spoke with on checkout, Effey, was an absolute star and answered a lot of questions i had regarding my transit back to schiphol and my future trip to amsterdam in february, aswell as setting me up on mercure’s loyalty programme so i can get a 10% discount on my next stay! very welcoming staff who simply cannot do enough for you :).
food:
we stayed on a room only board basis and did not eat in hotel once so unfortunately i cannot comment on the meals from the restaurant, however the snack and drink selection available at the front desk was great and really high quality, although the prices were a little high, (however this is not a negative because everything in amsterdam is a little expensive compared to what i’m used to at home!)
room/bathroom:
as per the photos below, the room was absolutely STUNNING and extremely clean. the temperature control in the room aswell as manual cleaning/do not disturb buttons were a lovely modernised touch and the room felt extremely spacious and open - complimented by the large windows which gave lovely views of the station nearby. the bathroom was also incredibly spacious and private, clean and modern. the shampoo and body wash provided by the hotel was also very high quality and left my skin and hair feeling great!
Fees was OK but the behaviour and cooperation was very poor.
Lobby is darkike belgian chocolate, rooms are even dark, small and full of wierd smell.
The location is isolated from the other city areas but yes has some grocery store and small restraunst to hang out.
The overall feedback is not very good but the city welcomed us well. Our train is cancelled due to strike in Railways and we had to pay handsome amount to reach our destination somehow.
I will give this hotel only 2 stars just to honour their infrastructure. Staff needs trenendous training once again on behaviour.
We wanted to rent bikes on the day that we left - flight in the evening so left luggage at the hotel, was told that this was not possible for security reasons and told that in any event it was much easier to rent from the central station. Breakfast was a hefty €19 on top of an already hefty weekend rate. The location is a really ugly part of Amsterdam. The only good thing top say is that transport links are good. I have stayed in many hotels over the years for work and pleasure and this was by far the worst I have stayed in for many many years. Unless the price is less than €80 do not stay at this place. It is grim.

"Domt buy any food or drink at the hotel. We paid 4 euro for an orange juice. The breakfast buffet is 23, which we found a bit much. "Read full review
