Location is as good as it gets. Right on The Brink. Informal yet polite. The restaurant/bar on the ground floor is visited by locals, always a good sign. Good food, expences not spared on proper ingredients at least for what me and a friend tried last and this trip. As a beerhound I very much appreciate Royal's perfectly clean beerglasses. Some rooms are on the small side, some maintenance is also called for at the odd spots (some crack in a mirror and such). Elevator scary, but not to the point I'd take the stairs if staying a few floors up. Seems easy on check-out hours, as well as breakfast-hours - somewhat limited in vareity there on the morning buffet but what's on offer is of good standard, solid. Good coffee, did not try tea. If you read Dutch there's a handsome selection of newspapers laid out every day for breakfast/lunch in the restaurant. I like the feel of the place. Comfy, friendly. It's 4 stars for a 3 (or 2) star hotel from me. I'l be back in Deneventer sometime in 2020, likely to stay there again have they vaccany, will write again if I at that time have something to add, or deduct. Paid about 75 or so Euro per room, last year larger room, this year smaller room, same rate, for whatever reason. Seasons perhaps. Happy travels!…
Stayed for 3 nights in summer for business. Not the place to go as NO A/C OR FANS. staff were VERY polite and helpful. No cloth washing facilities anywhere. Food was quite average given prices. The restaurant decor was nice. Would do very well if renovated.
The Royal is located in the middle of the older part of the city, a short walk from the trainstation (about 10 minutes). It faces the Brink, where there are many restaurants and cafe's. Rooms where clean, good beds, good towels and also bathroom accessories where provided. It's own restaurant serves good food, service is polite and friendly. It seemed like a number of locals where regular guests at the restaurant, something I take as a good sign. Breakfast is included in the price (was for us anyway, verify yourself if they change). Check the hotel's website for details, link is not legal here but you will find it easily. From the hotel you can easily walk around town, many interesting shops, charming alleys and I was impressed over how polite and friendly people where, everywhere we went. There is a electric minibus that does a loop of the old city, it has a stop near the hotel (also stops at the trainstation, only 1 € for a ride). The whole loop takes about 30 minutes, I recommend a ride to get a overview of central sights.…
The hotel is ok, the staff is very friendly, but you have NO REST! YOU HEAR EVERYTHING IN THE BUILDING. 100 different people 24 hours long off and on the stairs opening and closing the doors. This stay for me is like a little hell. I hear everything So very loud, above next, door, everywhere. Its to cry.
Medium size classic old hotel, with a very good location and (typically) included buffet breakfast). No air conditioning. Some noise from outside or the hallways ... Short bike ride from main station.
We stayed here for 2 nights during the Women's Football Euro. The hotel is situated at the main place, surrounded by restaurants and bars, right in the middle of the city. The room was spacious and clean. Very friendly and helpful staff.
The entrance to the Hotel is gained through the Street Cafe and Reception is at the Bar, however the Staff were all very pleasant and service very good throughout. Despite the hallways being somewhat dingy, the room itself was very bright from the large windows and was a good size and spotlessly clean. Facilities were somewhat basic as there was no tea or coffee making facility (nor mini-bar).
We stayed here during the Women's Euros. The hotel is situated a 10 minute walk from the train station and right in the middle of the main square so perfect for going to restaurants and bars. There was also a big food market in the square on the Friday. Hotel itself was OK. It was cheap, had breakfast and wifi so it ticked all the boxes we needed it too and not much more. The hallways were a bit dark and the rooms were maybe in need of a lick of paint and freshening up. That said, they were clean.
I stayed in a single room and found that I had more than enough space, considering the size of the room I had in Amsterdam. It cost 65 euro for the night which was fine as breakfast was included in that. Buffet breakfast, private shower facilities, approximately 5-10 minute walk from the station, and right in the centre of town. I am a coffeeholic and would have loved a coffee machine in the room, but it wasn't an essential. The restaurant below does do nice coffee so not far to go. I will be returning back here in the near future.
I miss a rating option 'good' between 'average' and 'very good', for me hotel Royal rates as good. As written by others: fantastic location, 5 minute walk from train station. All works, all is clean, friendly staff : all OK for a mid-range hotel, all you need for a 1 night stay on a business trip. If they would be looking to renovate, my first investment would be in new mattresses. Good value for money.
